On a gigantic map my game normally take a slight lag hit toward the middle of the game using detailed ships (Like the freighter up there.) with the gaphics settings at max. It really depends on your machine and settings. My graphics card is minimum quality (I can't play any of the in game movies/clips)but the game works well I think.

Those are some really nice looking ships. I don't think I would ever try to make any like them since my system is a few years old and I would not be able to really enjoy having ships with that many components since it would drag everything down to a snails pace or worse.

BSG and Star Treck ships seem to be the main design simularities so far, but has anyone tried to make ships from Star Blazers?

IIRC, some Star blaziers ships were in last year's thread.

I still check it out once every so often as there is a lot of inspiration in there

I still have dread lords and I try and make animal like ships so far though I'm having trouble does anyone have some tips?

Winter is back...

So here goes the 1st I made with the DA engine:
I started off wanting to make a huge-sized colony ship- well it has always bothered me that 5 billion people travel one way and fit easy-peasy in a medium sized freighter: If it colonizing of new worlds the ship should be [h u g e]. So I grabbed that huge cube hull model and wrapped a ship around it. When the main hull was done I got to thinking that making a colony ship wasn't really worth the effort I was planning on putting into it- after all colony ships are used once... and then they are gone, meaning that one spends 95% of the gameplay without seeing these nice ships anyways...

So my new ship developed into a Gigantic CTL, a "Civilian Transgalactic Liner", dwarving even my last pre-Dark Avatar Super Dreadnought design, while keeping a certain feel of sleek elegance to it. Seen here under management of a Terran Logistics Company, the new 'Galaxybus Liner X3000' (a Walhalla Shipards subsidiary) will soon be bringing you closer to your dreams and destination- or that of your cargo order...

Here's my second round of asteroid-based ships. The first were all utility ships on cargo frames. Here are some combat designs.

First, a light destroyer, basically just a weapons platform welded to some space borne ballast rock. Medium frame.

Then, a slightly heavier model based on the same technology, but with more advanced engineering. This model was intended as the upgraded flagship, with a hefty electronics package for surveys and ECM.

Now, the heavy hitters. This battlecruiser is first ship in the family tree constructed free of an asteroid base, and instead uses a pair of dense iron cores for warp stabilization. Large frame.

Then comes the advanced hybrid battlecruiser, also a large frame ship, based on the older survey ship side-mounted design. A faster, more adaptable model with a wider array of weapons.

Finally, the core of the fleet, the huge frame Magnos Carrier, a veritable city in space, with a stunning armament of lasers, missiles and attack drones (not pictured ).

Anyhow, like I said, I was going for a more realistic Naval style with these ships. Some in style 1 were inspired by Croc411's ships. Styles 2, 3, and 4 are for my custom races, and so they were built with as few components as possible, as my graphics card sucks. Obviously, more time was spent on some of these than others.
