Golden Rule

Golden Rule

We all were new to this game at one point. We all asked a question or had an idea that someone else had come up with before us. Someone probably looked at our idea and thought "Sheesh! Not this idea/topic again!"

My point is, that since this game is still selling in stores and online, there are constantly going to be new members on the forums. Now yes, they should try to research their idea before throwing it out, but we should try to be a little nicer to the new guys. Nicely pointing a person to a sticky, or filling a player in on the fact that a topic has been fully discussed in the past is somthing that Im sure would go along way to improving a new forum members experince!

One of the things I have constantly been impressed with is the caliber of people on these forums. I would hate it for new players to be discouraged from joining in discussions because they are afraid of getting snapped at.

In the words of a great philosopher "Can't we all just get along?"

What I find hysterical here is that this is happening in this thread... "Golden Rule"

I was this close to posting something very similar yesterday around noon. But then I thought, naw, the thread's on its way to correcting itself, it doesn't need any extra cynicism. Hahahaha! I've made bigger miscalculations, but they have usually involved physical injury of some sort.

I suppose it could be argued that some people want to be smacktalked-to, which literally fits in with "do unto others"... Honestly, I hope you guys don't quit sniping at each other, because I've come to count on it as part of my daily humor regimen.

However, I do want to stick my oar in here to say that treating new players that way is just out of line, even if in their ignorance they drag some rotting zombie of an idea with maggots in its eyesockets back into the light.

I know that n00b bashing happens all the time on other forums, but this isn't those forums. (Or doesn't have to be. I posted one example of the other sort in Off-Topic recently.) Ultimately, it's a counterproductive exercise in pathetic self-aggrandizement at the expense of a player who might have stayed around to become a productive member of the community, but after such treatment will probably leave for good.

Who knows, the Savior of the Metaverse could have come and gone, flamed out because in his first post he said that he thought tactical battles involving carriers would be a great way to introduce a multiplayer component.

Hee, hee, hee...  I like the way you paired up two of the most heated topics on this forum. Very niiiiiiiiice.

If the two of you have such a problem, take it to email or drop it. I'm not going to tolerate it here.

See. If the game had multiplayer they could slug it out to their heart's content.

As mostly a lurker now - what this thread has degenerated into is the reason I stopped posting.

Thank gawd the game is worth it or Stardock would have seen the last of this customer.

So what are you saying? If the game sucked, I would imagine Stardock would've seen the last of you at that point. And if the game is good, which it is, then that means what? That this forum would make you run away and Stardock wouldn't ever see you again? I'm not picking with you, even though in a way it may seem so. I just couldn't understand what you are saying with that.

All in all, considering all the foibles that are on display on a daily basis, these forums are far better than many others you could associate yourself with. I kind of feel your statement holds us up to an unattainable standard.

Sure we have our share of flames and arguments but we also have our share of being helpful and trying to improve the game. If your choice is to sit on your hands on the sideline then I guess at least you won't get caught up with the negative aspect of these forums, but then again you've given up any possibility of contributing anything positive to the game as well. I think the net loss is yours.

well said !! that hit them all at once!! and now what was the original post about!

what this thread has degenerated into

Not the whole thread, there are some good points being made here. This forum in general has a much higher percentage of inisghtful, reasonable, or at the very least well-intentioned posts than any other games forum I can think of. In another thread, I compared it to your email inbox. You just have to disregard the spam and focus on the useful bits in between.

Thank you; I enjoyed writing that. That paragraph actually is relevant to the original topic, which was about newer players being abused for unwittingly bringing up topics that have already been discussed to death.

What I find hysterical

Yeah, it is pretty funny. Useless smack talk in the Golden Rules thread.

Ok, maybe I should have used the word "Ironic".

But I didn't see anyone coming off well there

You come off preety well. That's why I respect your opinion.

Just one word: Democratic
Remmember to give others fare heed to the ins and outs of the game and ignorance is for blind men who fail to see suffering, like most berucrats and oil barrens.

One thing I have found and this may or may not be of some use for the newer players. (politically correct)

I have seen people that seemingly can not stand one another on one thread, come to the defense of one another on a different thread. Most people here do contribute to these forums in one fashion or another, from game play to comic relief.

Do not get me wrong, there are those within these walls who truly detest others, but you will find that anywhere you go, unless of course you frequent church forums.

The verbal sparring, if you will, can almost be called our form of multi-player. We actually interact with each other, good or bad, right or wrong, darkness or light, the only way we can within this forum.

I think just about everyone here has been the target of at least one flame, warranted or not. The fact that we are still here trying to contribute to the game is what really matters. If I get flamed, so be it. I will either retaliate in kind, post something that will smooth the waters, or just forget about it and move on. It is not like it's something that is going to make me go jump off a cliff or hide in a corner and cry.

We are all here for GalCiv2, we all have that in common.

Well I am new to this site and new to galciv 2 first I must say this is a great game but very hard to get to grips with and the other thing is that from a newbies point of view it is sometimes a sad thing to see how nasty people can get on forums like these but saying that I must be honest that so far people on this site is very friendly .

I will in future defenatly ask alot of "stupid" questions

I will in future definitely ask alot of "stupid" questions

They only stupid question is the one you ask more than once. GC2 *is* a tough game to pick up. There's a lot of ways to play and there's a lot to it. On top of that it's continually changing, which makes it particularly difficult for newer players.

Just ask your questions sort through the answers and use what makes sense for you. In a few months, we'll probably be asking you questions.

Most people here are decent helpful folks, there's a vocal minority that enjoys passing a little abuse around, but even they can be helpful in the right circumstances. I does help to be a bit thick skinned though.

Welcome to the game.
