Sins of a Solar Empire Pre-Ordering begins

Pre-order and get the beta!

http://sins.stardock.com/store/

This Winter the Sins of a Solar Empire beta will begin as it makes its way towards release next summer.

Players who pre-order the game will be able to take part in the beta and help shape the final game just as they did with Galactic Civilizations II.

Sins of a Solar Empire is a real time strategy game that could best be described as a combination of Galactic Civilizations and Homeworld with a lot of gameplay that feels (to me anyway) like Total Annihilation in space.

It's epic in scale but isn't a click fest because of intelligent unit AI and a really innovative user interface design.

The link below will let you pre-order and will automatically give you access to the beta once it becomes available.

*wimpering noise made at lack of money*

hmmm... I have some technologically inclined relatives, perhaps I could get one of them to pre-order it for me

Hm... too high price for something that not only does not have a demo but not even a beta version...

"Access to beta" is a good thing when you have something trustworthy and "proven by time" as GC , but with new game - just high cost promises.
Better to spend money on Star Empires V , Gothic 3 , Dark Messiah , NWN 2 for nor now and when game will be available (or at least beta demo) and IF it will be good or THEN to spend the money.

The game looks good and your first sentance makes no sense whatsoever

Will the pre-order be available through Total Gaming? Just asking because I can't seem to find it on there.

Yarlen was working on getting it up there. Once it is, you'll also be able to preorder for 5 tokens.

lol there goes all my remaining tokens, thanks for the info!

I'm not sure what to say to that Kiron, most new games today cost $49.95 and people pre-order them (Spore is $50 as a pre-order).

The difference here is that not only do people get the game but they get the beta where they can help shape the game.

For most people, waiting until release is the way to go.  But for people who want to influence the course of the game, pre-ordering is the way to go.

I wish I could pre-order this game, along with DA, but you don't accept paypal for pre-orders, and for some reason you can't buy tokens with paypal unless you also have a credit card.

Demo?

err.. I don't know.. I'm still stuck on Space Ranger 2. Good luck prying me away from that. Unless, this game has some of that feature...

Let me see:

DA : 25 $ - 3 token

Sins of a Solar empire: 45 $ - should be 5 token (not available yet on TGN)

Total : 70$ - 8 token

new TGN membership: 70$ - 10 token

renewal of TGN membership : 65$ - 10 token

It should be noted that when peordering with TGN token, your token account decrease immediately. Now, it is sad if you are unable to get (or renew) a TGN membership with paypal without having a credit card.

Unless there's been some change in the policy of either Paypal or Stardock, you should be able to order without a credit card via Paypal. But you need to have money in your Paypal account though.

This game actually looks pretty promising. I may have to check it out.

Between this and all the 360 games I must have, my holiday shopping is getting difficult. Hopefully everyone will understand when their presents consists of boxes with IOU's stuffed into them.

I might have a reason to get more tokens with TGN now that I've used the rest of mine on DA and SR2.

Question for the Stardock guys who have seen the game so far: Do you think a non-RTS fan would like this game? I've never really cared for RTS games and prefer turn based (Gal Civ and Civ series). Maybe I need to wait until it's completed and try the demo out.

Hmm, looks like a very interesting game. But yea, I wouldn't pay that much in advance for something I wasn't sure about, plus only having a digital copy at the end of the day. I don't tend to pay that much for new games in a DVD case. It might not mean much to Stardock, but I like to being physically able to see what I own. I don't find the incentive of helping to shape a game during the beta enough either. I'd rather pay full whack for a game that when released was good in the first place, without having had to pay in advance to get the game playable and balanced. Should already have beta testers for that. Perhaps even give beta testers a discount for the full thing.

But oh well, until the demo is released Medieval 2 Total War beckons!

I dunno what you guys are saying about that its far to expensive, most games that come out nowadays are $50 minimum, why 360 games are $70 on average. Sure you need to pay it all up front instead of only $5 but we do get to have a say in how the game works so for me anyway it's a nice trade off. Besides I had 5 tokens laying around that I had no idea what to do with...

For me I have a choice, this game or DA. So I dunno yet. I only have 6 tokens left cause I bought SR2 and Massive Assualt, however the Massive Assualt DIDNT come with Multiplayer, I am VERY disappointed about that

The 5 token booster back is back and working, so you could always get that

Actually, if you have a TGN sub already but not enough tokens, the 5-token pack is an wasy way to nab Sins at a $10 discount--the tokens cost $34.95 and let you buy the game which otherwise costs $44.95.

?  Like GalCiv II, Sins has the option to receive the retail box.

Thanks, I'll try that.

Is there still time to change the game to a turn-based campaign mode with real time battles, ala the Totalwar games?

Having a real time campaign like 'Empires at war' tried is a bad idea.

Nope.

For those who don't like RTS's traditionally, you may enjoy Sins. I prefer turn-based strategy myself, but find Sins to be a nice change from the mouse click frenzy that most RTS' require. One of the cool things is that space is vast and Sins takes that into account. You're not just going to zip from one world to another instantly, travelling takes time. That gives you lots of options to think things through.

BTW - Sins is now available for pre-order through TotalGaming.net (5 tokens):

http://totalgaming.stardock.com/store/index.aspx?page=confirm&ID=SINS&PRODUCT_ID=ESD-SDS-W237

Please note that TGN does not sell the boxed version of the game for tokens.

Look guys , the game is totally unknown, how can you be sure that you will like it if all you have is a couple of screen shoots and back story ?

With GC it was different - I downloaded a demo, liked it , bought , then i PREORDERED Antares because I KNEW it GC style that I like , then I PREORDERED GC2 because I KNEW it is in style I like , now I PREORDERED DA because I KNOW it's a game in a style I like ...

But this "Sins" ... they MIGHT be the style I like or MIGHT NOT , I can't tell since I have no info to base my opinion on.

So why to spend $50 NOW and get something I UNSURE of, while I can spend this $50 on something else I am SURE going to like and then when demo will be available I will download it , check it and then make decision .

About my prev. price comment - it follows from the above - I could consider preordering this "grey horse" game if I knew I pay less when preordering but pay now full price and get the game way latter and even without knowing if I going to like it ... Nea

Not to toot any competators horns here...

But, Sword of the Stars is only $30 and seems similar enough to Sins...

Well other than that SotS is actually by the guys who made Homeworld...

Sins sounds interesting though, but like many others here, I've learned the hard way not to preorder anything. And that means *anything* to me.
