Official 1.4X Bug Report Thread

Official 1.4X Bug Report Thread

Please post any bugs you are experiencing in the final release version of 1.4 (1.4X) here so we can have them all in one place. If you are running one of the 1.4 Release Candidates or an earlier version, please update and confirm that your issue is present in 1.4X before posting here.

Provide debug.err and/or SmartException reports as appropriate so the devs can quickly find and fix the problems.

If you have savegames, etc, to send, email them (zipped) to [email protected].

This may be a very minor bug, but it hurts the immersion level of the game for me. If you choose to play a game with tech trading disabled, sometimes the AI text in the diplomacy window is contradictory. For example, when they make a demand, in the flavor text they say something to the effect of "Since you don't have enough money, we demand you give us these technologies." But since tech trading is disabled, it will of course only display a monetary value in place of the tech (I assume this monetary value is equal to the monetary value of the corresponding tech they would be demanding if tech trading was enabled). Anyways, hope this tiny complaint gets addressed sometime before the release of Dark Avatar. Thanks.

OK wierd bug.
Sometimes (30-50%) when I scrap an influence starbase, the base goes away, but the graphic does not. It is no longer on the base list, and no text comes up when you point or click on it. It goes away with saving and reloading.
Not an important one, just wierd. debug.err is above

Scincerely,
Scintor

Oh yes, another one. If you make a ship design obsolete, the game forgets what it looks like and just uses the last ship/base picture that you clicked on for the obsolete design.

still slogging through my first 1.4X game (all races, playing as custom, largest galaxy, lots of planets)

List of bugs seen so far:

- the Freighter causing the planet to look like a stacked ship (as stated above)
- Minor races creating massive amounts of influence starbases
- no warning when war declared on you (as stated above)
- no capitulation shots (two races now surrendered to others, and only noticed via change in map)
- surrender = loss of all ships + starbases (not sure if this is a bug, but when one enemy surrenders to another, all defenses are gone and it's easy pickings)
- giving a planet to another race allows you to still see the area around the planet on the main map
- AI not using most advanced weapon/defense options where applicable
- valuation for military incorrect (based upon volume of ships, not capabilities of the ships)
(I was #5 of 8 militarly at ~80 value, took on and defeated the top 3 military powers ~130, ~180, ~270, with some advanced ships at the same time)
- Overall Score calculation is incorrect. I'm #1 in all areas by far, except #5 in popularity. currently only #4 overall.
- AI will not accept peace treaty while it has a higher military rating than you, despite never having won a fight and having lost a number of planets + ships
- Alignment listed as Daemonic. (sure, specialized version of Evil, which I am, but no one else has a specialized alignment)
- Alignment shared by dead races (Yor surrendered but are still listed as sharing my evilness)
- time to complete in Colony listing page different that in the planet view
- turn after loading a game sometimes has all the event icons turn orange (instead of blue, red, yellow etc)
- loading a save sometimes has the AI decide to talk to you (even though it didn't when you got to that turn before saving). potential cheat since the AI sometimes offers really good deals, money, or ending a conflict.
- Subspace Blaster has exact same stats as the previous tech beam weapon
- colony pop size changes turns later after taking over a main planet from a minor race or major race (default pop cap size reduced after a number of turns)
- minimap corrupted after x period of time (needs full reload of game to reset)
- main control stats corrupted after x period of time (independantly of the minimap corruption)

I'm sure there's more...

I'm sending a copy of my save to the posted e-mail

oh right, two more:

when you have a ship partially built on a planet, then stop the production and upgrade the starport to anything else, the ship previously being produced will eventually get finished despite the lack of a starport.

edit:

the Mind Control Center...

the text states it relates to flipping planets that are ready to go, but it gives 100% economics... (not added into Stock Markets)

This bug is as old as the hills and they still haven't fixed it.
At the council meeting you all vote to extend the trading lanes by 3, but you don't get the extra 3 lanes. Are the council meeting thing just decoration and don't actually work.

Another big bug is if you upgrade a line of ships and some of those ships are in the process of being built then the process freezes until you go to the planet and reassign the build of that ship.

Another, not a game stopper but significant is when you go to exit the game locks up tighter than a ducks arse.

There are millions more bugs but these annoy me the most.

Please Fix or I wont buy Dark Avatar and then youll go broke.

There is a hard cap of 12 on trade routes, so if you already have that many, the UP issue will not have any effect.
Thanks for clearing that up for me, would have been better if you could have had the extended 3 routes though, would have made more sense if you get my drift.

For all the silly little bugs this has to be the best game I have played in years, great work.

I haven't seen anyone mention this, but I'm having a problem with ships from all over the galaxy converging on one point in my space. Some of my ships will change their course, all on their own, to head to this point (which I can see as a circle with so many turn numbers below it that it's unreadable). Dozens and dozens of alien ships converge there too -- constructors, freighters, scouts, troop transports, and more -- until there's a huge traffic jam of ships floating there. After a hundred turns (I'm not really sure how many) one of these jams cleared up. A while later, another started forming in a different area. I have to keep telling my ships not to head there. It's INSANE. Didn't have this problem in any of the previous patches.

ColonialPanic,

This was reported before in one of the 1.3 versions, but I don't know if it actually existed before that.  However, I was unable to reproduce the problem with the save games that people sent in for 1.3 in 1.4.  So if you could zip your save game and e-mail it to [email protected] I'll take a look at it.   A user who sent in the report for 1.3 reported that this bug only happened if your original colony ship was still alive, so if you could check that for me before you send in the save game, that would save me some time.  Thanks.

v 1.4x Creating Metaverse game, Gigantic galaxy, all Civs.

Number of anomalies created when selecting Abundant or Common is exactly the same:

Abundant = 300 anomalies
Common = 300 anomalies
Occasional = 245 anomalies
Uncommon = 169 anomalies
Rare = 92 anomalies

Im having a problem where im fighting ships with extremely high stats on small ships. I have the game on lower settings, since I just got the game and trying to get use to it, but its like I fight useless battles.

I have fought ships with 24 ballistic attack and 12 shields, and they are small hulls. And if I try to use missles on the ship they are useless. I am have the Collector's Edition stuff added in as well, anyone else know of this?
I've run into a couple of bad bugs.

One no matter what I did with spending my credits would not change. Thus I could go negative on spending and not go negative on credits.

Research was showing 1 turn on main display even while showing correct number on research screen.

Reseach stopped showing on graph.

Also prior game I had one AI run away on tech. (I've never seen that before but perhaps they had a bunch of 7X and mines.)

The credit problem takes all the fun out.

No I have played a few games and none of these bugs was present in every game.

I have fought ships with 24 ballistic attack and 12 shields, and they are small hulls.

A few possible reasons:

1) The AI has better technology than you. Miniaturization tech lets you cram considerably more stuff on your ships, and the top weapons do considerable damage. Four HD Spike Driver IV's and a couple of upper-mid range shields could easily give those stats on a small ship if a few miniaturization techs have been researched.

2) The AI may also have a mining starbase (or several) built on a military resource. Just a couple of maxed-out military resources can nearly double the attack and defense on all of your ships. Some races also have natural bonuses to attack or defense.

3) You're fighting the Dreadlords in the campaign. They start off with advanced technology and can build very powerful ships, but they are very slow to get things running. The key to defeating them lies in using large fleets of cheap but powerful ships and fighting a war of attrition.

In any case, it is not a bug.

Kyro:
Game has been running fine as of late. But now that I see all of the
habitable planets have been taken, it has started crashing again. When
I try to load either a previous quicksave or manual save, it starts to load
the game then crashes. I am enclosing a paste of the debug.err file. Please
help! Thanks....from ehsumrell1.

If you have a saved game that crashes every time, send it to [email protected] along with a SmartException report (If you don't have one, install SmartException from the free stuff tab in SDC, run it, crash GC2, then grab the file with a .CRA extension from C:\Program Files\Stardock\SmartException).

Thanks Kyro, I have forwarded suggested files per your
instruction. Will await response.

Latest Version of GaCivII posted Nov 16 or 17...061. Menu button names do not show up on load/save screen nor in the game after updating tonight.

Also, I cannot seem to get the movies to download...any ideas?

Thanks, Army No. Va.

Version 1.4

Civ Managment screen > Governour > Ship Rally point
When selecting "None" and updating to a user defined rally point,,all star bases are given movement orders as well.

Out of 8 civs getting anhilliated, only Drath showed up surrendering to Thalan in the GNN. (Not certain how to classify the peace treaty I made with the Torians,,which included their remaining two planets)

seems to work now after a reboot (had a blue screen of death shortly after).

I've just purchased the retail version of the game, registered, and updated with all the available downloads. Problem is that I can't get past the opening video without my system locking up hard. I have to power off to regain control (2X Alt-Ctl-Delete doesn't even work). I tried running in windows, but the same thing happens. Help! Here is the debug file:

I am just fighting againts another civ (refugee of ..) and their fighters have a beam attack strength of 3 (no other weapons, no starbase support, no atacking civ bonus and no military mining). My ships have a beam defense of 7 (including starbase support). Now from tome to time during a fight those nasty fighters create 5 hit points damage with a single shot in a fight 1 ship against 1 ship. How is this possible?? I thought the worst thing that could happen would be three points of damage (they roll a three and me a zero). Is the computer cheating or are there some "undocumented features", which would be interesting to know about - or is this a bug in the software??

Thx for any help - (I also want this surprise hit feature for my ships , how can I buy it? )

Diplomacy screen

When you have the trade screen up for another race (major or minor) click thier attack button, choose a race for them to attack, now click the add button on thier side and "Attack ..." comes up below the "Attack ... Whatever race you choose" now click on "Attack ... Whatever race you choose" to remove it then click on "Attack ..." to remove that. "String not Found" now appears as a choice below the attack on thier side.

GNN Screen

When the GNN appears at the end of a turn click on a ship in that list, click the goto to enter that planets shipyard now click rally point, nothing happens, click done to return to the GNN then click done on the GNN, it then appears not when it should do on the shipyard screen you wanted, this gets confusing when you have just altered 10+ shipyards and the rallypoint screen comes up one after the other with no indication of what planet there from.

Suggestions

In the shipyard screen could you put the "nothing" on the ALL tab on to all three tabs? so that its on ALL CORE and USER?

Could you put a "launch" button on the GNN list for ships? so for example, you have a colony ship listed on the GNN, click on it and instead of clicking GOTO have another button, LAUNCH?
In the same idea, a REMOVE button so if for example you want to remove the ship from the build list in a shipyard you can do so from the GNN at the end of your turn? When you have 20+ ships appear and you only want to build one on each planet it gets a bit fiddly going back and fourth.

Thanks

Just purchased, installed and updated the GalCiv2. I am on my first game. I had the option to build Economic Capital and Manufacturing Capital. Started and finished the Economic Capital on my home planet. Later on I went to build the Manufacturing Capital on a different planet but that option is no longer present. I did note that (from the planet surface screen) I could build Xinathium Hull Plating which is for ships. Not sure if the two observations are related.

If a known issue, thanks for your time. If not I can send whatever information you can find helpful.
