1.3 beta 1 bugs

Thought to start your basic bug report thread, since there are couple glaring bugs to be found.

The game is patched in this order. Original game from cd -> 1.2 official patch from SD -> 1.3 beta patch from SD.

1. Yor and Thalan ship models lack all jewelry. This is on race selection screen and in game.

2. Planets are full of mountain terrain and all tiles aligned horizontally. I have tryed this one only with Yor couple times. No idea if other races suffer the megalo mountain symptom.

3. The Randomize race does not work right still. I selected randomize races and set the difficulty back and forth couple times and settled with Tough. All the other races reacted to difficulty slider changes exept Thalans and Iconians as you can see from this little debug.err copy/paste

Debug Message: Drengin Empire: Intellence -> 80
Debug Message: Torian Confederation: Intellence -> 80
Debug Message: Dominion of Korx: Intellence -> 80
Debug Message: Thalan Empire: Intellence -> 30
Debug Message: Iconian Refuge: Intellence -> 30

Here is the debug.err

edit:

Some details added to my explanations.

Also the new levels do not appear to be in the new build! There are still only 12 levels to choose from.

Also confirm the randon race level does not work fully: 0

Debug Message: Drengin Empire: Intellence -> 19
Debug Message: Yor Collective: Intellence -> 42
Debug Message: Drath Legion: Intellence -> 53

Set to 'Normal' with randomize selected

I am not getting the mountain issue as of yet.

As for jewelery - I don't think only those ones. I had a custom race with drengin hulls- no jewellery either.

Terminus please try starting a fresh game and then see if the jewelery issue is still present. Sounds like a backward compatibility issue....

I will go ahead and add this one here as well

as of 1.30(b).016 there are the following items in PlanetImprovements.xml
Some of these might have been removed by stardock but would of been better to be commented in the xml if they are not to be used

Galactic Monument requires tech StarFederation tech is named StarFed
Nano Recorders requires tech Sensor2
Pain Amplifiers requires tech Medical Theory tech is missing
Anti-matter Power Plant requires tech Anti-Matter Power tech is missing
Extended Farming requires tech Xeno Farm Construction IV tech is missing
Ultra Farming requires tech Xeno Farm Construction V tech is missing
Hyper Distribution Center requires tech CulturalConquest tech is named Cultural Conquest (space)
Historical Preserve requires tech ArtificialSatellites tech is missing (perhaps from terror star removal)

Only people with their language settings set to something other than English will get the bugs with the lack of jewelry and the all white planets.  It has something to do with the way that the data is read in, but when we reproduced it here, the user defined ships did have all their jewelry, so I'm not quite sure what the problem is with the canned ships.   The all white planets is probably a comma vs. period for decimal separators issue, so I will see how we can fix that.  In the meantime, go to Control Panel and open the Regional and Language menu, and set it to English (US).

Jack-Jack, there are still only 12 levels of difficulty, but now there are 12 levels of intelligence when previously there were only 9.

There are not only white planets, but also black and green ones:

For the jewerly, it was only missing for the predefined colony and construction ships it seems.

This beta is unplayable for me.
I have the same two problems as Sam0t. Drengins are the only ones with correct ship with jewelry. None of the others have jewelry on them. The Human and Yor shipsets have strange graphical glitches all around them. In-game they cover most of the screen. I also have the lifeless planets, this seems to include all planets in the game, homeworlds and colonised. The only one that has any terrain is Earth but that's probably because it has it's own raw-file, it's completly white like all the others.

One thing that I discovered is that if I choose a race and difficulty, then go back and choose another race and click forward to the choose opponents-screen, the old race won't be the same intelligence as all the others since it wasn't an AI when the difficulty was chosen but it will still be enables and will therefor start the game with a different intelligence if no changes are made.
As I understand it, an AI:s intelligence is updated to the difficulty level when it's enabled. Wouldn't it be easier to upgrade all the races intelligence (including both enabled and disabled ones and the player race) whenever the difficulty is changed, that would remove the above problem.

It's still the same problem.  I'm working on it.  These bugs, at least, I should be able to fix by changing the locale in game, but that might screw up the Russian version.  So if anyone here is Russian, please e-mail me so that I can send you a test build.

ignuss: please see my advice about changing your regional settings.
ignuss, try setting your Windows regional settings to English (US) or English (UK) if they are not set at that already.

Thank you, CariElf. Changing the regional settings fixed all my problems. I saw your earlier post precisely after I had finished mine, I began writing it before your was posted
No more graphic problems and all the jewelry are back on the ships.
All the planets are back to normal too.

If any of you getting this error want to try a test build for me, please e-mail me at [email protected].  Your mail provider must be able to handle large attachments (probably no more than 3 MB).

Ok, I have a test build that works here when I change my regional settings to German.  However, I would still like to test this on people actually running non-English versions of the OS to be certain that it works.

Yep the language setting made a difference here too. Too bad I have English version of XP in use, so I cannot help you out CariElf.

Hopefully you guys can fix the most annoying difficulty setting bug too.

Got the same graphic errors with the ships and the planets. And worse: the combat viewer shows only a dark screen. No ships, no battle, just stats running. Same thing on the galaxy map. There are no more weapon effects. Just two ships/fleets next to each other and one is exploding after a second.

I'm running the english version on german Win XP version.

I am having a problem with the timeline graph at the bottom center of the screen. The right most 1/4 or so is not displaying a line. I am at 1680x1050 resolution on a Radeon 9700 Pro card.

Sorry, My oopsie

The random issue is stil a bug though right??

Mismatched: please send a screenshot and your debug.err file to [email protected] with a description of the bug.

Daigaled, are your language settings for Windows set to German or English?

Jack-Jack, what is it doing, and what are you expecting it to do?

Cari, My interpretation of the 'random' setting next to the intelligence selection area in the game options window was that it created some movement in the races intelligence levels. This i believe was supposed to move slightly so that some races were more intelligent than others. However at present it is keeping some at the normal level and dropping others hugely. IE: -

Debug Message: Drengin Empire: Intelligence -> 19
Debug Message: Yor Collective: Intelligence -> 42
Debug Message: Drath Legion: Intelligence -> 53

The 42 to 53 split would, on the basis i am interpreting the previous changes implemented on the randomize setting, be correct. Whilst the 19 intelligence of the Drengin in this case would be wrong as it basically equates to you playing against 2 races at 'normal' and one at 'cakewalk' which is not how i understood the option to work.

For clarification i am talking about the check-box next to the intelligence selection window and not the random choice on the selection window.

I may have got it completely wrong so if i have i apologize now

I've noticed that fleets made up from obsolete ships have a blank icon. Disbanding and then recreating the fleet results in a blank icon :S

When I bring up the planet list, it's empty unless I click on one of the categories. Should I post my debug.err?

Edit: Reloaded my save game and the list was working. Changed the sort from class to name and the above issue took place.

Dzhel does this happen if you start a fresh game?

It is always preferable to not use previous saved games with new upgrades as there tends to be compatibility issues with doing so. Stardocks advise has been to always finish your current game before updating to the new build.

Gotta love the people who try to use a pre-patch savegame and them complain about bugs......

Isn't it normal to convert savegame data (as required) from a previous version to the latest version when loading? There are some things that you do need to start a new game in order to see the effects, but why should saved data suddenly be useless?
