Sorry I didn't see your reply before i typed in my problem. You seems to agree with an earlier reply that stated "turn on the instant battles" and the game should play through.

Any other advise that you can give?

Ever since I changed the combat to "instant battles" I have not had any crashes and have been able to complete the game many times.

I also would like to mod creators to authorize my forum access as it has been over a month.

Hi I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend----just wanted everyone to know we are still working on the rebuild of the Star Trek mod----I apologize to everyone that has had problems with the mod but be rest assured we are rebuilding the mod from the ground up which is why we stopped answering tech questions---we apologize for that but we are working on an entirely new build---anyways those interested in helping out in anyway or just interested in trying out the upcomming build please let us know---except for UglyCow---I was not going to respond to this twisted individual but I can't help it----my response?---well here goes....Dude, just because your mother never held you does not give you a reason to take it out on others or maybe you were disappointed with your new Linkin Park cd like the rest of us were, but anyways ...grow up! And no I won't get into an online argument with you in future posts---write what you want but they will remain unanswered----ok now with that done I just wanted to let everyone know that the mod is still in production    ---thanks for taking the time to read this.

UGLYCOW - Please continue to not play the mod. You are rude, and I have no time for this. You will no longer get a response out of me.

Plus, I figured out how you were related to the original ST Mod, so that explains a lot. Even Stefan has moved on and we now work together. Post as much as you want. But I won't bother responding.

The Mod also adapted for DL or only for DA ? I come from Germany and have DA not.

Vorlone I apologize that the mod will only be released for DA to begin with---but I will discuss with the other team members to see if they would be interested in releasing it for DL as well----I will post an answer later this evening.

I'm not one for having any modding experience, but wouldn't mind testing anything that is built. Except for the combat crash, I've really enjoyed the creativity of the mod and the detail envolved. I did try to create my own race, i wanted the reman ships, but that failed.

Keep me in mind when you hit that point. I can't wait to try the mod in "instant battle" mode.

At the start of a new game you need to customize your own Colony ships, Constructors, Mining Vessels, etc. There are NO default ships ready for use when starting a new game. If you click on the "Shipyard" tab and then click "Templates" you can get a preview of all the ships available for that particular race, but you will have to meet certain hull tech requirements to build some of them.


This map was just posted on Boing Boing, and could be useful to your mod.

Very nice and informative map, never knew a detailed Star map like that existed.

That is what i am saying... when i click on the shipyard tab there ARE NO ships available. It is EMPTY. And, in addition, all weaponry, etc. is blackened out... although there are names there, when i click on them there are no pictures of the actual components. This is regardless of whether i choose the Terrans or any other race... i can't build a ship in the ship yard without anything there to build it with.

Hmmmm Ok so when you click on the shipyard tab there is no ships available/shown, but do you see ships when you click on the "templates" tab?

(Because at the start of a new game your not suppose to see any ships listed, because you didn't customize a new design yet for it to be saved in the Ships display screen.)

And to my knowledge as it pertains to the weaponry and stuff being blackened out, it was intentional for them to do this because you wouldn't want to install a new gun, sensor or something which would mess up the overall graphic/design of the ship. - Imagine customizing a Defiant class ship with an ugly Warp Drive graphic attached to the back, it would look kinda weird. Basically the component when clicked will install to the ship but is invisible to the eye. Standing by for your reply!

when i use the custom ships and click them my game crashes


Ya you have to be careful clicking on any ship, and then pressing the "Update" button in the templates screen because it will crash. Reason for this is you didn't reach the specific hull tech requirement to even have that ship customized. Would be nice for the mod to tell you "No, you cannot customize this ship yet!" or not even display the ship(s) until you've researched the proper hull techs.

Personally the only time I’ll ever click the “Templates” button is at the start of the game to get a PREVIEW of all the ships available to that particular race I’m playing. Nothing more!!!

Hey Folks,

I felt it was time I posted.... Sorry I have been away, and yes, I have been away. As my team mates, and friends already knew, I was promoted a while ago and my time has been being ate up, there was a brief period where I wasn't so busy with work, but for now, I'm very busy again. I think I'll be ready to work on the mod again by JULY.

As for the remark from Uglycow - I'm not commenting... Remember?

Second, I left the mod for no other reason than my REAL LIFE, the one that pays the bills and gets laid, (Or maybe i'm just telling myself that)was in higher demand. Either way, it is definately a temporary thing. (BTW - before you think about making a smart arse remark to that, think if you are so cool, would you even read this?)

Third - Knight and Han are working on this mod, rebuilding it totally to make sure it doesn't crash, and I know they will make it better than its ever been. When I get back, expect a new approach from me at least.

Hey, the dominion tech tree is set as the borg tech tree in the latest release. i went to play them and found that i can only research borg ships... wich is anoying. i tryed messing with the xml and it seems to be an easy fix. but then when i restarted the game (and my computer) the game hasnt changed. i started a new game and everything. tryed every thing i know how to try to fix it. i made sure i had everything spelled right and the ids all matched were they were supposed to. idk. i would realllly like to be able to play as the dominion though. is there any chance of a quick fix and re-posting of the mod??

Well I do remember people mentioning in the past that "Borg Tech Tree & Borg Basic Hulls" was being displayed in the Civilization selection screen when choosing the Dominion. But this is only a mistype in the RaceConfig file. When you load the Dominion you should be following the accurate path of Dominion Hulls. But if you say you corrected that mistake "I hope in the RaceConfig file" then you should be ok. But if you don't see any change when restarting the game, try deleting the old .customracexml race file in your C:\Documents and Settings\YourName\My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar folder. That should do the trick if not please reply back.

And just to double-check when you first loaded the Dominion, before doing any changes to the xml file you were actually discovering Borg ships? What kind of ships are appearing when you go to the Shipyard and click on Templates?

Yeah, i went back and looked at the templet tab and they are all dominion ships... even though in the tech tree im researching borg techs. idk. i guess i freeked out prematurly. HOWEVER, my lagitimate complaint is that the starting hull for the dominion is a "large" hull, with 50 ish hit points...(dont remember the exact #). not that im complaining to much. the game im in the middle of has the Borg breathing down my back with 80+ worlds and i only have 43. and they dont like me. (i put up there AI difficutly for a more realistic game... and i got one). If it werent for those large hulls i would have been borg chum for breakfast. BUT it is unrealistic, and in all honesty its kinda cheezy and feels like cheeting to still be alive with a military rating as high as it is with out needing to research a single hull tech. plus all my colony ships and constructors all have to be built on the same large hull. this does, in all fairness, need to be addressed. if there is somthing i can do to tweek this, i do have some limited experience with coding so PLEASE let me know if i can fix these things myself. other wise... well just lettin you know for the next version of the Mod. once agian thanks for a great fun filled mod. it really has brought many many hours of life back to this game for me. thanks

i finally figured out what i was doing wrong with the ships. Thanks for the suggestions.

However, my game continuoulsy crashes... this happens when i am attacking with a fleet, and sometimes when i am attacking with a single ship... Why is this? Does anyone else experience this problem?

i have federation ships and when i attack the Vulcan's then the crash occurs. Things seemed to be doing better when i stopped full fleet battles being shown in the viewer, but then i crashed again after that...

love the mod... love the game... hate the bugs :/

This has been addressed, for now just use instant battles and you'll be fine. It should be taken care of in the next release.

Here are some suggestions...

(1) Install an XMLSpy program and search the entire mod for any "not well-formed" XML files. I found a few and corrected them accordingly.

(2) Disable "Always watch player ships in Full Battle" in your Interface Options Menu.

(3) Just for kicks...Copy the four fleet formations files from the C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Data\FleetFormations directory and move it to the C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar\Mods\StarTrekBetaV4_DA\Data\FleetFormations directory.

I don't crash that much anymore in fleet combat encounters "FULL BATTLE" after doing these three procedures.

Again these are only "suggestions" which for some odd reason is working for me, cannot guarantee it will work for you!

Thanks NavyBert, i will give this a try... well, every suggestion with the exception of the first one as i have no clue how to repair an xml file :/

i absolutely love this mod. It breathes new life into the game and i was very let down when my game started crashing... it always seems to do this at the best parts... right when everything is beginning to pick up speed... aarrggggh.

Hopefully the two other suggestions will work.
