Ideas for Galciv 1.2

Tying events to objects

I'd love to be able to build a building and have it trigger some sort of event. The game already has some hardcoded events (creating your first Medium Scale ship, your first trade route, your first invasion, etc).

How neat would it be to build the Temple of Righteousness and have it trigger a bump in Planetary Quality? Or a Temple of Debauchery and your races Population % increases...

You get the idea, I'm sure.

Also, I'd like to see the 'extra' tiles (the ones you have to soil enrich/habitat improve, etc) have a chance of being a bonus tile (bonus to morale, research, etc).

I have mentioned this probably earlier but way too important to miss 1.2v IMO.

-- mega importan Colony management screen --

1. Please add rallypoint selector for each planet in this screen.

2. Show focuses in this screen with little * if not else and you should also be able to change focuses on this screen.

I find this screen the most important screen there is in this game. It is very well done, but with these modifications I think it would be even better.

-- other important --

Add a hot key for moving all Auto pilot moves. The Turn button just is not good enought.

After forming a fleet with quick button F, the system should make the new fleet active, aka ready to move instantly. Now you have to select the fleet again.

-- not so important --

Maybe my UI is buggy or something, but Governors screen map is sucky plain and simple. I mean the little map that should show what planets are producing what etc when selecting starship construction. Make em glow or something, making white little dots bigger white dots is not very neat way of doing it. Again my personal feeling

While your at it, why not fix the trade screen also. When you select a trade route, why not make that trade line glow a bit in the little map next to it? This would decrease the trouble of finding poor trade lines and canceling em. At the moment I pretty much have to guess what trade route is going where.

When civilizations go to war, why not show it on GNN news or something? I mean when two major civilizations go to war, its hardly a secret? I usually merrily play half the game not knowing when somebody is fighting. If I knew I would probably use it to my advantage. Call me lazy, but I don“t check the Threaties tab all that often.

When civilization declares war to you, make it clear as possible. I like to read the text and all, but why not cover the pop up window in Flames or write in big red font "WAR". That way even a dummy cannot miss the declaration of war

Sorry for the demanding tone of voice, but I see these suggestions as very important ones. Hopefully people agree.

Here is what I would like to see:
* New anomalies that would appear mid-game. I mean, the council always votes whether or not anomalies could be explored by the race which controls the territory where the anomality is at after all of them have been explored.

* More technology that can change the way the game is played - The tech tree seems more like a path just to upgrade ship defence/attack/propultion and planets. There are no "innovations" which radically changes the way the game is played and has to make the player adapt. For example: Stargates, Ringworlds, Terraforming Class 0 worlds (should be extremely expensive and with a very low planety quality), etc.

* More events that can change the way the game is played - the "pirates" were a nice touch, but what about making your society an "iron curtain"? this means no alien ship is allowed to your space, you can't have an alien planet under your influence and no trading is allowed. Alternatively, "free space" can be diclares to allow anyone with a ship to fly in space. That way you get a boost in trading and you can "draft" those space-pilots to the army in times of war, but you also get a huge rise in space pirates.

* More spying abilities - assasinating an alien leader, lowering the approval rate in a certain planet, etc.

* Telling the computer to remove certein starbases near your planets or his whole "starbase building agenda" inside your territory (as a non-ally race does to me by building tons of influence starbases in my territory... but when I try to do that he comes whining about it).

* Multiplayer (ofcourse) - just over LAN would be fine, no "events" and stuff like that to make the game flowing.

I wish for only one thing!

In the research screen, you choose the research and it shows the number of weeks to completion. That being said, as soon as you have a good research output, it often takes 1 or two weeks to produce any tech. So you want to optimize the % of your resources set to research to maximize your production and not waste.

Exemple: Research is set to 40% and it takes 1 week to produce a specific tech (say Warp). If I can lower Research to 32% and still produce the tech in 1 week, I can redistribute those resources to Social or Military instead.

Solution: have a secondary (or duplicate, doesn't matter) control scheme on the Research window to adjust this on the fly without having to choose a tech, go to Resource management window, change Research %, OK, go back to Research Window, check if number of weeks has changed or not, and back and forth until you hit the sweet spot.

This may be micromanaging madness, but that's the name of the game and I want this very commom task to be much less time consuming.

If you can do this for me, I will be eternally grateful. Think about it: ETERNITY!

Please indicate the music-track list in the audio options and allow the user to change tracks at will.

As it is, the music can become very tiresome. In my current game, I had to turn off the music because the same track had been playing over and over again for the past hour, and it was a heavy track that gave me a headache. I prefer the "New Age" style of "cosmic" music which plays at the very beginning of the game.

It is a big issue for me at the moment : I need some music during a game, but the current track (which keeps playing as if stuck in an infinite loop) is hard on my ears and brain.

Allowing us to change tracks at will should not be a big deal.

I'd like to see planetary defence beefed up. How about, ground based missle launchers, ray sheilding etc. This could get more powerful as you go up the weapons tech tree? The current planetary defenses don't seem worth the effort.

I'd also like to see Starbases get more hitpoints as techs advance. (perhaps as hull sizes increase?). They become too weak, mid/late game.

More random events as mentioned above:- Ion storms, Meteor showers, Giant Galatic Blobs (well forget the last one). Just stuff to challenge your military ships, esp. as you can spend a long time @ peace with the AI.

More diplomacy options with the other races. When I turn off tech trading (to make it harder), there's hardly any need to speak with the other races. I'd like to bully/threaten them etc

I would like to see the Dreadlords and the Arnorians as races in a campaign.
