Poll Results: Would you recommend GalCiv II?

Poll Results: Would you recommend GalCiv II?

And the next poll

The ultimate verdict on a game is when someone is willing to recommend the game to others. We took a poll to see how many people here would recommend the game to other people. Over 1,500 people responded and over 96% of people said yes. I have to admit, I was surprised (and happy) about the result. Sometimes you read the forums and it sounds like a walking disaster zone in there of people who are mad or wish it was more like some other game or whatever.  For those 4% that aren't satisfied, hopefully 1.1 and future updates will win them over. ;)

Our next poll  will ask, would you purchase a $20 multiplayer only expansion pack. Since development resources are finite, we have to decide whether it makes sense to put them on a future expansion pack that is mainly about multiplayer or mainly about adding other features and content to the game.

Multiplayer isn't such a huge deal to me. When you say Multiplayer-only, I interpret that as meaning the game is otherwise unchanged; it's essentially version 1.1, but with multiplayer. No new hulls, no new features, no new technologies, etc. That would not be worth $20 to me.

I know how labor-intensive multiplayer can be. I'd really prefer you guys dedicate your time toward delivering the best single-player experience possible.

Take a look at Oblivion. Lots of people cry for multiplayer, but these are mostly people that are more interested in MMPOGs anyway. Most people forget all about multiplayer after putting an hour or two into the game.

By the way, if you think it sounds like a disaster just by reading the boards, keep in mind that the people that are unsatisfied are often the most vocal. People that are happy have no complaints, or better yet, don't come to the site because they're too busy playing!

For me, I don't play Multiplayer, so No, I would not buy a multiplayer only expansion pack at any price.

I would hate to see resources being expended on this at the cost of new and improved SP features, art work, an in- game Galactopedia, in-game Editor, standalone shipbuilder, etc.

I know a lot of players want multiplayer, but most times you lose something when you try to be all things to all people. I'd rather see this version stay true to the SP vison, and maybe add multiplayer to the eventual GC3.

That said, if you have the resources to do both, I would buy an expansion that included multiplayer as long as it did not ruin the single play balance and had lots of new goodies for the SP side.

Bah, I would pay $30 bucks for a multiplayer only expansion. Yea, some more features would be nice - but man. A lot of people seem willing to pay $10 bucks for some hulls and jewelry. I'd sell off an organ for the chance to play this game with some of my friends. It's the one feature that I desperately want - focusing on building scenarios and everything kind of seems like a waste of time, especially when the sandbox mode is so much fun to begin with. Multiplayer - oh god yes please.

Since development resources are finite, don“t waste them on a future pack about multiplayer.

My vote: NO

I wonder whether an MP expansion would get much use (or sell well, for that matter) if it was released some length of time down the road, actually. Most games that launch with MP experience a burst of MP play at the outset which dies off quite quickly. Within 6 months to a year it seems most multiplayer lobbies are dead (which is one reason the "MP extends gameplay" argument is nonsense, 3 years down the road SP is the only option anyway and any game with an inadequate SP component is basically an expensive drink coaster). I guess what I'm getting at is that the number of people playing any game seems to drop off exponentially as time goes on, so I wonder how much use an MP network for GalCiv2 that sprang into existance a year down that decay curve would really get. There are a lot of folks railing for it now, I wonder how many would still be railing for it by the time it was finished.

I hope this made you (and the whole stardock) realize that forums with more than a bunch of guys who know each other, are often well...
how will I say that ....

the question is : how often do you see someone who registers just to say : "all is great, everything is fine, I'm just passing by, hello to all ..."

most of the time, people complain, or expose a problem they have, or try to understand why is this, why is that ...
or try to express their opinion about something because they are frustrated about something ....

that doesn't mean the game is not great
furthermore as YOU (stardock) are considering user suggestions, the game CAN'T be a failure
moreover, all those sales you had, really mean a little something, more so than a game that has a bigger coverage/shelf space than you ....

I know it's hard for your company right now because it needs to grow, to become a moderately sized company
and these things are not so easy ...

I wish you luck on your way

I would like to see a multiplayer mode, even if its just a simple hot-seat mode. Although if the expansion pack came with more stuff then just a multiplayer mode, that wouldn't upset me. The poll really should've had another option for ,"Yes if it comes with more than just a multiplayer mode." Also, it seems like this thread doesn't accurately represent the poll.

Stardock has a bolt of lightning in its hand. Galactic Civilizations 2 has the potential of being among the greatest games ever.

Don't waste resources on multiplayer IF it interferes with perfecting the game. I still want a thruster module for Starbases. I still want to load a saved game in exactly the perspective I left it. Passive defenses like minefields for resources would be nice. Counter-intelligence is needed. Scout ships need to stop moving in the same frakkin direction. More needs to be done.

My instinct is to say, "no. I work. I don't play multiplayer." However, a friend of mine has become addicted to GC2 and it's a good idea. This is the first game in... forever... that we like at the same time.

You have a cult following growing here. Let it grow a lot more. Time will weed out the losers. Whoever is left after six months should discuss multiplayer.

But let's say you decide to do it. What is this $20? Is it essentially another license with a modification for what is said to be already built into the code? Is it a sort of amnesty for friends that have tried it and haven't gotten around to buying yet? You've said you can see which serial numbers are being played. Perhaps this $20 brings a few thousand people into legal ownership?

If that's not the case, it doesn't make any sense to buy a single seat license for a multiplayer expansion.

If it was nothing but the ability to play multiplayer? No.

More content included besides multiplayer? Yes.
Yes that is a fair price for producing an expansion that will do MP. Good one FrogBoy! I am sure you guys will add some other things besides only multiplayer.

Will there be another expansion besides this MP version? I would love to see more content for the game. I don't understand the negative reaction to this poll. Does everyone expect Stardock to produce this for free?

You make it I am sure you will earn your costs back and more.

I'd probably pay $20 if it had a full suite of MP modes (hotseat, PBEM, on-line & LAN)
I'd buy multiplier for $20 if you could also guarantee me 5 people that won't bail out half way through the game, that would be worth 20 bucks.

My vote is "no", I'd rather have a great SP game with a great AI, I've waited 36 years for that.
I voted "No". Don't give me multiplayer, give me better AI!

I sometimes walk away from my turn in the middle to go do something (sometimes even go watch some TV). I play the game for hours at a time, and occasionally need a break. The last thing I'd want is to be playing against someone else and have them do the same. So then you'd have to introduce time limits, but it can be really annoying when I'm at a "next... next... next..." part of the game (waiting on some tech to research, ships to build, whatever...) and the other person is seriously tweaking his economy or military or designing ships).

So just keep tweaking the AI! Give us a better one, give us more cool features (there have been lots of suggestions). MP is not something I see myself ever doing with this game.

$20.00 for MP, not for me; as it seems a bit too high for MP only. I bought it for the single player so I would only get MP to have all components if it were inexpensive enough ($10.00 max), or it included more then solely MP.

Personally, competing in the metaverse is good enough for me.

I voted no for a multiplayer expansion pack as well. I would prefer the development work be spent on enhancing the single player game, as that is all I will ever play.

Multi-player anything? Nope. I like TBS's for single play. My games are long enough wihtout adding another human to the equation.
Multiplayer only? Meh...No. Way.

Do you want multiplayer? Go play an RTS or a FPS and have a blast. But I love thinking and planning my turns and taking sometimes 5 minutes to play a single turn, which doesn't work with TBS games. I recently tried that with Civ4, it sucks and boring. Sometimes I wait for my friends to finish their turn already, and sometimes they were bored to their teeth by waiting for me. I had to read the ENTIRE civiliopedia while waiting for my turn. Not my idea of fun! And paying $20 just for that? No, thank you very much.

I'd buy a $20 or more worth of content anytime of the day, because I highly support you guys, but I won't buy an expansion that just adds multiplayer, because I'll never use it.

The vocal minority need to shut up a bit more...

I do enjoy hotseat games, but considering the number of hotseat games I'd actually play (2 or 3, making it about 7 bucks per game), it's not worth an expansion to me. I'd rather see you put those limited resources into a good single player expansion.

most people coming to the site are going to be fans of the game

Sure, but the point isn't that it's being superimposed on the entire market. I don't think the point is "WOW 96% of all people who purchased the game would tell their friends about it!" but rather that there are over 1500 people who will tell their friends about it. Granted we can't make any undue assumptions about the results.

I'll tell enough people to make up for the slackers.

I'd like to see a bit more than JUST multiplayer if I pay for 20 bucks for an expansion, but I'd pay the twenty if it came down to it.

No. I have no interest in a MP expansion if it means we lose out on the single player add-ons. This game started as single player and should stay that way! If members want a MP game then why buy this one in the first place?? Its like buying an online game and then moaning that you can play it alone on your own pc!

Leave the MP for GCIII so those of us who only want a single player game dont have to buy it. Dont penalise those of us who purchased this SINGLE PLAYER game in good faith!
BTW $20 for a good single player expansion --> Without a second thought!!
I'm not a fan of multiplayer, so naturally I wouldn't buy an MP-only expansion.

I know others say they would purchase it, if it had other content, but I don't think that's a good idea. I doubt I would buy it, as I made that mistake with Civ 3: PTW.

I think breaking things down is much nicer, like with the proposed ship hull pack. It's better for users if they can customize their experience.

you should have made a poll about Multiplayer yes / no first, then afterwards make poll about the price and other features (or lack thereof) implemented along with it.

Iam all for multiplayer and votes yes there simply because. I do however think that 20$ is a bit much to ask for nothing else but a feature that should be part of a great game like this to begin with.
