Poll Results: Would you recommend GalCiv II?

And the next poll

The ultimate verdict on a game is when someone is willing to recommend the game to others. We took a poll to see how many people here would recommend the game to other people. Over 1,500 people responded and over 96% of people said yes. I have to admit, I was surprised (and happy) about the result. Sometimes you read the forums and it sounds like a walking disaster zone in there of people who are mad or wish it was more like some other game or whatever.  For those 4% that aren't satisfied, hopefully 1.1 and future updates will win them over. ;)

Our next poll  will ask, would you purchase a $20 multiplayer only expansion pack. Since development resources are finite, we have to decide whether it makes sense to put them on a future expansion pack that is mainly about multiplayer or mainly about adding other features and content to the game.

I'm not suprised by the results, most people think this game is great myselft included!

As for a Multiplayer Expansion I would love to see one released, GalCiv2 is the only SP game I have ever purchased! The Demo was just to good to pass up and my fellow Civ4 fans talked so hightly of this game that I had to buy it!!!

I voted no, if it was just muiltplayer and nothing else, I am not mourning the lack fo muiltplayer. I would however like to get it if it included hot seat and/or costed a bit less and had more stuff in the expansion then just muiltplayer.

Hell yes Id pay for a Multiplayer expansion. But Id expect it to be a fully featured suite of MP tools.

The problems in just making a alternating turn version of the SP game are pretty apparent.

I would expect as much love that went into the Single player game into making the MP game a great game in its own right.

When I reccommend CG2, I often get "Never heard of it. " So, I have to follow up with, "Well, imagine what happens after you win the space victory in Civ4". I don't for a minute imagine that Stardock wants to ride piggy-back to Sid Meier, but I do feel it's one of the easiest ways to introduce GC2. GC2 is the game that Sid should have made as a space-faring sequel, but thankfully GC2 isn't plastered with Sid's face on all of the in-game models (although maybe that will get me a job with him, if I make a Sid's Face Battlestar with the Ship Creator... just kidding, of course!)

Hey Brad, since the new poll only really applies to Galciv 2 owners, wouldnt it be better to set it up through the SD client, so that only registered game owners could vote in it?

Open Web polls are notoriously useless, and agenda driven ...especially for something that may play a determining factor in whether you decide to devote resources to exapanding this great game into the Multiplayer realm, for all those of us who would love to go head to head against our friends, rather than the "multiverse" which is a novelty at best.

I have a few friends with whom I'd like to play this game in multi, so if you add coop in there (ie, two or three human players vs a bunch of Intelligent AIs), then yes, I would like multiplayer.

However, I wouldn't pay 20 bucks for a strict multiplayer expansion pack.
If you add more content, then it becomes a different story, but it would depend how much content. As I said somewhere else, I'll pay 10 bucks for a ship package, so I'd probably pay 20 for a ship package, multiplayer and a few other (minor) things.

20 bucks for multiplayer alone? No.

No but if yall released a expansion that had alot fo add-ons like ships and stuff I might buy it but rather get it if it had stuff for SP and MP was a add-on.

I'm not suprised. Despite some criticism and opinions of people who would have prefered some things be done different, most people coming to the site are going to be fans of the game. I would find it more interesting to see how well the game was liked at a nonaffiliated site.

Pretty much what I was going to add.

Is something wrong with the new poll? Despite being logged in, I cannot cast my heartily vote of "No, Never, Not in thousand years." (Maybe if you bundled it with a human opponent to play against.)

hells yea. Ill buy it all.. I played BOTF with friends for along time.. They are basicly the same game. Only BOTF is OLD OLD OLD now.. I miss it.

I possibly would, but it depends on its quality/depth. I wouldn't pay $20 for play-by-email functionality alone, for example.

"Sometimes you read the forums and it sounds like a walking disaster zone in there of people who are mad or wish it was more like some other game or whatever."

Maybe the reason it sounds like a disaster zone is because people really like the game but they would like their favorite features implemented. I know for my self I'd like to see my favorite features in this game, because without it, to me, it feels like something is missing.

We all feel real passionate about the games we love to play - "if they only did it this way", or "why didn't they put _ _ _ _ _ in the game". So I voted "yes" I'd recommend this game, even though it does not have the features I'd like to see in the game, because it's still a great game.

I wouldn't pay for a multiplayer expansion simply because I rarely play multiplayer games, I've never really gotten into it

For me, the only multi-player mode would be PBEM, so it's not likely I'd be interested in paying extra. I'm satisfied with single player, and would prefer more content added in that area. I do follow the Journal section, so I see how much effort you put into this game, and I very much appreciate it.

I voted "NO" because I'm not interested in multiplayer.
I would like an "expansion pack that is mainly about adding other features and content to the game" (...however, I would pay $20 for a MP-expansion with AT LEAST some SIGNIFICANT new features, because this game is EPIC and I wouldn't "miss" anything about it!)

I voted yes, but I would be happier with having a full featured hotseat mode in a regular expansion.

I tried the ctrl-shift-z method, but that isn't very fun. The tech tress don't show up correctly. Fog of war gets a bit weird. But mostly, you can only use one customized race.

Well, imagine what happens after you win the space victory in Civ4

Actually, they made that game. It was called Alpha Centauri, and it ruled.

would you purchase a $20 multiplayer only expansion pack.

For this game? Not a chance.

It's possible to make a turn-based strategy game work online. But this isn't that game. This game's mechanics are all wrong for multiplayer gaming, and you'd have to change a lot of things to make it actually work well.

Suggestion: Have two expansions, one single-player one, and one for MP... For MP ONLY, I think $10 is a reasonable price. For an expansion pack with MP- $20 or even $30 I'd pay.

As for the poll: While I agree GC2 is excellent, the people who wouldn't recommended GC2, how many of them actually were still around to read that?

I vote yes. This is a great game. Single player is amazing but for me, even though the game is great as it is, I still wish for multiplayer. I can only play single player for so long before I start getting the urge to face someone else (mostly friends and family) online. I like using my strategies against actual people because it makes me feel.....uh.....really good knowing that I just wooped an actual person and how they must be feeling

honestly I can see you wanting to make a multiplayer expansion just to get the multiplayer obsessed to SHUT UP, but I for one would much prefer an expasion that had more ship pieces, more techs, updated weapon special effects, more ethical choice events, new galactic resource graphics, and maybe another campaign.

A multiplayer expansion would be nice.... but only if I had friends to play it with. The sheer amount of time it takes right now to finish a SP game limits the amount of games I finish but if you doubled that it would take me at least a day of nonstop playing to finish a game.

In your next poll please specify what KIND of multiplayer you are envisioning. The only multiplayer I would be interested in is if you could somehow make PBEM viable.

I can't comment on whether it'd be a good business move for you guys, but I don't think multiplayer functionality for this game is worth $20. I'd cheerfully buy an expansion pack that expanded the single player game in significant ways, and would prefer if development resources were put in that direction.
