Ive seen alot of talk of Babylon 5, Star Trek and Starwars total conversion mods but no sign of a single stargate one. Is anyone out there interested in forming a Stargate mod team? Reply if you think you might be up to it.

Hi all. I have been trolling all the threads regarding Stargate on the forums and it doesn't seem there is a mod team active at the moment. There has been some nice work done on ships but i cannot see if there is progress being made.

We need to start something up ourselves and if there is another mod perhaps then we can collaborate or something.

It does seem that this thread has seen some life in the past couple of weeks, so maybe we all should pool what talents we have and and at least agree on the basics for the mod.

I'll raise a few points,

1) The gate itself.

Do we mod an existing tile to look like the gate but keep the original function eg, starport is a starport it just looks like the gate.

or

A "gate terminal" style of building that looks like the gate of course, and is race specific with bonus's attributed for that race, with a 1 per planet limitation.

2) The races.

Who do we want and who constitutes a major and minor race. I'll throw in my two cents, keeping in mind i am not taking into account if that race/person is alive or dead in stargate, only their prominance

#1 The Tau'ri - Earth - Brig General Jack O'Neill
#2 Free Jaffa Nation - Chu'luk?? - Tealc
#3 Apophis - Socar's planet(unsure of name) - Lord Apophis
#4 Anubis - unsure - Lord Anubis
#5 Tok'ra - unsure - Selmac
#6 Asgard - Othala??(the new homeworld) - Supreme Commander Thor
#7 Wraith - unsure - Michael
#8 The Ori - unsure - ?? (only got season 9 the other day on dvd )
#9 Replicators - Othala (old asgard homeworld) - Fifth/Reece
#10 Asurans/Lucian Alliance - take your pick and we puit the other one as a minor.
Other minors could be,
The Nox
The Tollan
The Genii
The Ashen
i'm sure there are many others that fit into this category.

Now i can tackle the XML's, though we will need others, also, we need people to take care of modeling ships and taking care of the race pictures and illustrations.

Any takers? I would really like to see this get off the ground.

I could do some of the race pictures/logos, and I'm pretty good with the Technology and Planetary Improvement XML files. I have no modeling experience whatsoever, unfortunately.

I disagree with some of your race choices, nothing major, but heres my 2 bits:

I think we should lump the System Lords together as the Goa'uld and have Anubis by himself (like the Drengin and Korath).
We should just include the Asurans, not both the Asurans and Replicators.
I think we should include the Genii(sp?)
I think we should make the Tolan and Nox minors.
Micheal shouldn't be the leader of the Wraith, we should make a Queen the leader ("Queen 87" for example).
Micheal should be the leader of his own minor, or maybe major, race. What we call them is up for debate.
The Free Jaffa should be based at Dakaara, where the Council is. The leader of the FJN should be Bre'tak, because Teal'c is wth SG1.

I'm not sure if I can get my 3dsmax back up and running but if I can I have some modelling experience (Starfleet Command series, NWN1. Yes, a while back) but havent done much in a while as I havent really found a game that has caught my eye lately.

Well, till now that is. I will see whats up if I can find the disk I put it on. i have 3dsmax 5 or maybe its six laying around here somewhere. Oh wait, first I need to find out if that will even work, should, but I'll get around to it, if nothing else I still can do some work in the .xml's (they are really easy to work with) and/or provide some input.

This is a good idea, perhaps Apophis can be the leader of the system lords, he needs to be there somewhere i think.

Hope you get on track Pyro, with you looking into modelling and me and Storm tackling XML we have a start of a team

Anyone else? We will need some good support to ensure this happens.

Don't forget a random event for running into the Furlings...of course, the net result would be that the player has forgotten all the details of the encounter.

Ba'al should probably be included; maybe he can lead the Trust?

We can have more than ten races; DA supports an unlimited number. For DA, super abilities are also a factor, so we'll need to pick those for the major races. I had some thoughts on those in the other topic (https://forums.galciv2.com/?aid=132053).

Yes, the Tok'ra should definetly be a minor race.

I had an idea about the Reps and Asurans. We should pick the Asurans because they can use both hull types. What I mean is, the Asurans use Ancient style ships, and the reps used their own block ships. We have Puddle Jumpers(tiny), Aurora Class(medium), the round spidery replicator ships(medium), and the really big ship RepliCarter was in(large). If we use the Reps we can't explain their access to Ancient style ships, but we could explain Asurans haveing the Replicator block ships.

I like the Gate Terminal idea. It allows us a way to include the gate beyond invasion tactics, and allows us to make the races even more unique (by adding special bonuses to each races terminal).

Okay, I think we should include the following as majors:
1. Tauri - Earth - Gen. O'Neill
2. System Lords - Summit Station - Apophis, Yu, or Ba'al
3. Anubis - Tartarus - Lord Anubis
4. Free Jaffa - Dakaara - Bre'tak
5. Hebridians(from 'Space Race') - Hebridia - (We'll have to make our own character here, their leader was never mentioned)
6. Wraith - Unknown - The Matriarch (claim she's like a super queen or something)
7. Asurans - Asura(??) - unknown
8. Genii - Genii - I forgot the new leaders name
9. Asgard - Othalla(until we remember the new HW) - Supreme Commander Thor
10. Lucian Alliance - Lucia? - Can't remember the guy's name
I have more ideas but they would work best as minors. Here are my minor race ideas:

1. Tolan - Tolana - Tolan Council (because they are isolationists)
2. Unas Confederation - (we'll make this up later) - Chaka (I think in few decades they'll be worthy of minor race status)
3. Tok'ra - unknown - Selmak (we've been using dead people already, why stop here?)
4. Nox - Nox...??? - Can't remember her name, she was in the ep 'Triad'
5. The Trust - unknown(we'll make this up) - Ba'al or Kinsey(forgot about him, didn't ya?)
6. Riitu - unknown - unknown (I include as minor because we never see them and they have no ships)
7. Micheal's Wraith - unknown - Micheal (I include him because I have spoilers from Europe that say Micheal builds an army of similarly afflicted Wraith. We'll need to think of a better name, unless they are named on the show, we'll have to wait and see for that.)

And ofcourse we replace the DreadLords with the Ori.

Good call, they should be in.

Very, very cool. Though it would be nice to have them appear a bit more than the DL would, if that can be modded.

Apophis for the System Lords and Ba'al for The Trust, it has my vote.

So we are slowly getting a consensus on the races, and i had actually forgot about super abilities since we are kinda doing that with the gate terminal. So along with Super Ability's and Gate Terminal's we should be able to make the races very different from each other, enough so it is worth playing as them all. And yes good point JV, that there is no need to limit the major races we have. In fact just about everyone that has been considered for a minor could be a major. There are plaenty of races that could constitute a minor, the human nazi style race, don't remember their name but Odo(DS9) was the leader. Races like this could be minors....

So i guess we need to decide are we going to do this as a DA mod, DL or both? Both seems the likely choice i guess.

I'm working on a list of possible races plus their Super Ability and what their Gate Terminal Bonus's would be. Im not limiting anyone to a minor role or anything atm rather gathering a pool, if you will that we can draw on.

One more thing, is the trigger that lets the Dread lords appear hard coded? If not, why not make another file the same but for the Ancients. Just a thought.....

the ones with carter are from asgard home galaxy

the ones that attacked atlantis were built by the ancients

I see no reason why we cant have both. We can have as many races as we like, have them both for a major race and choose who you want to play against.

True explaining ships for the replicators (SG-1) that are smaller than the asgard ships will be hard, but hey, it's our mod, we can come up with any story we like.

Maybe Gou'ald ships?? They did attack and conquer the System Lords.......

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. We shouldn't add any race that strikes our fancy, all willy-nilly like. We should consider their significance in the SG universe, and if they warrant even being mentioned. Even minors have hyperspace capable ships in GalCiv, not even half of the races/factions (not includeing individual System Lords and Hives) encountered by the Tauri are in that demographic.

The Asurans and MW Reps are practically the same thing, their racial bonuses and abilities would be nearly identical, both are 'evil,' and both are extremely aggressive.

On top of that I think we should consider them as one because it would make designing new hulls easier for our fellow modders. It will already be necessary to design a dozen or so custom hulls to fill in the substantial gaps in the hull types, why make it harder?

Count me in, i know nothing about modeling ships, but i am getting to know my way around the XML files

That I could easily do for you.
After I read through the thread, i thought why not simply making a PI--a Stargate-- which has the same property as the starport, you start with at least one. One could limit it 1/race or so. Even in Sg universe not every planet has got a gate.

Your kidding right? If we don't fill in the hull types/sizes then some races won't be able to build ANY ships until they research medium or large hulls, THATS why.

We should provide atleast one hull for each type/size.

Yep. Even if the back story for having those smaller hulls is not quite cannon, we need each race, both major and minor to have at least 1 of each hull type.

I'm still getting my race list together, RL has reared it's ugly head, but it seems we will have about 18 races to draw from.

I did notice in the library there is a partial stargate mod. Has anyone checked it out? Perhaps with all the owners permission, it might provide a starting platform for us???

I've noticed it, but I haven't tried it.

I know what you mean about real life, I have a major project in 3 classes, i'm behind in one of those and behind in a fourth class. Needless to say, this weekend will be very busy for me.

Do you mean DA or DL? I don't know, we could theoretically make it for DA and it would (mostly) work for DL, because the XML parser ignores any tags it doesn't recognize.

Its likely we'd make it for DA, so we can use Super Abilities to enhance the uniqueness of each race that we will create with 'Gate Terminals.'

Thats if this mod ever gets off the drawing board.

I had an idea, we could (along with MrKorx and our other friends here) get some help from the people at the GateWorld Virtual Fleet. They have some neat designs we could use.

I don't think we'd use them all (some of them are alittle funny looking), but it'd fill in some of the gaps.

MrKorx and others here could use those as a base for makeing more GalCiv friendly models.

There's one distinct idea that should be implemented.

The Sangraal. Basically it would be a Unique Artifact that serves as a spoiler. The research and contruction cost for it would vary, but basically while a faction in play possesses the Sangraal nobody can win by a Tech Victory. In addition, if the Sangraal is sent to the Ori homeworld and activated, the faction is either wiped out outright or they suffer severe and permanent penalties.
