How did you find out about Galactic Civilizations II?

How did you find out about Galactic Civilizations II?

Web polls are now live!

So how did you hear about Galactic Civilizations II?  We've created a fairly detailed web poll (left side of this page).  We are very interested in finding out how people learned about this game. What's the best way to get the word out there and so forth.

The poll is located on the home page of galciv2.com on the left side.

Thanks! !FROGCARE!

I don't see the poll at all! Not in IE nor in Firefox? Where is it

I can't exactly remember how I found GalCiv2, but it was all over the internet so I checked it out.

I learned about GCII when I was playing GCI, which I bought after seeing on a shelf in EB - now Gamespot. (Note: before buying GCI, I researched it by going on-line and checking out Stardock's site and other review sites, so I'm not sure the credit for my GCI purchase goes entirely to Gamespot. GCII, however, I knew of an bought solely because of Stardock and my GCI experience.)

Another note for the poll-makers:

Shouldn't you maybe remove Stardock as an option from the poll? It seems to me that you are going to have a really high correlation between people that learned about GCII here, and still come back to participate in the forums. That correlation could skew the result significantly. (Maybe most people actually bought the game because of seeing it at Wal-Mart, but they don't frequent the GCII website. Your poll wouldn't necessarily pick this up.)

Played the first one and thought it had potential. As usual it feels fantastic to be right. Excellent game

GalCiv2 and Stardock were mentioned on Slashdot in an article on copy protection

I voted Gamespot but I heard it from other places are well.

My decision to finally buy it (on-line) came from the e-mail from Stardock.

Kudos to you guys - Gal Civ II is a dream.

I found out from the Starforce story and vowed I would buy the game just to support a game company that "gets it". I'd tried GalCiv 1 and while I thought it was pretty good, it seemed a little simplisitic for my liking. However, based on the reviews of GalCiv 2 I figured it would be well worth it. I've been a big fan of 4x since long before that name had been invented and I'm looking forward to many hours of productivity being wasted playing GalCiv 2.

Anyhow, thanks for treating your customers like customers and not criminals. Copy protection only affects legitimate users (and maybe stupid pirates), and it does almost nothing to prevent piracy. We went through this whole copy protection nonsense back in the 80's and the consensus among customers was that it was a huge mistake. The companies stopped doing it, but I guess memories are short, and most companies aren't that smart when it comes to treating their customers anyway. I understand the desire to curb illegal copying, but spiting your paying customers is not the way to do it.

Keep up the good work, Stardock.

I read somewhere about the dispeakable episode on the "StarFarce" forums and decided to check out what was going on. Ordered GalCiv II that same day.

It's kind of ironic that Stardock owes at least two sales to the "StarFarce" maggots.

I love paradox's games and I was on their forums once and I saw the galatic civilizations forum. I hadn't heard of it so I checked it out. I thought it sounded cool. I didnt see anything about it untill I saw an advertisment on gamespot for the demo and I downloaded it. Another contrtibuting factor was I loved the Political Machine, so I knew you guys made good games. And a final contributor was it reminded me of a Star Trek game that I cannot remember the name of, that I was looking for, and I decided that I should just get this instead.

So I guess it was pretty much all of the above -Penny Arcade
