How did you find out about Galactic Civilizations II?

How did you find out about Galactic Civilizations II?

Web polls are now live!

So how did you hear about Galactic Civilizations II?  We've created a fairly detailed web poll (left side of this page).  We are very interested in finding out how people learned about this game. What's the best way to get the word out there and so forth.

The poll is located on the home page of galciv2.com on the left side.

Thanks! !FROGCARE!

I'm running IE, and there is no link to the poll from the main site. Sorry Darkstar. I was searching Gamespot for turn-based space games and saw the previews for GCII.

Months ago there was some thread on a message board I don't remember in which someone asked what's the best successor to MOO2 and several people said GalCiv was probably the best. Then I saw this on the shelf in Best Buy and that recommendation, plus the fact that I'm always on the lookout for a good strategy space game, made it pretty much an auto-buy.

I can only see the results. HOW DO I VOTE?????

EDIT: If I refresh the page or click on home, the poll disapears. It only re-apears if I reload the page from my bookmark. (I use Opera BTW)

I see no poll. I am looking at www.galciv2.com, and I am in internet explorer. On the left side of my screen from top to bottom I see the site navigation buttons from "Home" down to "Purchase", then I see the Forum Links to the different forums, then the Recent Posts on the forums. Then the Reviews that shows the icons/links to the different major reviewers.. then the Stardock, TG.net, Paradox icons.. and thats it. No poll.

The poll isn't visible for me through www.galciv2.com, whether I'm using IE or Firefox. It was previously visible in Firefox, but I couldn't vote.

Anyway, I'd heard good things about GalCiv2 before through word of mouth, but the Penny Arcade article was the one that caused me to go out and buy the game. One of the best games I've ever played.

I can't even see the poll, let alone vote, but I played GalCiv and getting GC2 was a no brainer.

After reading that your game wasn't useing any anoying copy protection (on a games web site, cant remember which one now ) I decided to check it out, glad I did, awsome game once you get into it. Congats about the sales figures

I learned about it at Gamespot.com too. I do not see a poll. I looked on a few of the pages and no poll. Oh Well...

I don't see the poll anywhere either, but I "discovered" GalCivII from an announcement on the news page of CivFanatics.com. I went out and bought GalCivII the next day, choosing GalCiv over whatever that Star Wars game was that came out about the same time.

Can't vote but I can se the poll results.

Apolyton and Civfanatics for me.

Then I heard about the rukus over Starforce at a tech forum, learned of SD's 'no CD to play' strategy that treats customers like the honest people they are, and that cemented my intent to get it. I could not play civ4 due to it not liking my PC setup, and was looking for a TBS to spend my time with. After I saw the Starforce stuff, I remembeed discussions about it on Apolyton and civfanatics, and checked out the reviews on those sites, especially Apolyton. Liked what I saw and got it.

With Firefox and Explorer I can see it, but can't vote. With Opera I can see the vote thing but it's black text on black background.

I learned about the first one from the advertisement they put in the MOO3 box. Since MOO3 sucked so bad I gave Gal Civ a chance and it was the better made product. It lacked some of the complexity of the MOO series, but it did what it did well, and MOO3 didn't. I don't remember where I heard Gal Civ 2 was going to come out, but I was reminded about it right before it came out on the HardOCP forums. So I don't know what category that falls under. "other?"

Hmmm yeah I voted with IE but it won't work with firefox.

It was the top seeded torrent. I figured it might be good, so I bit torrent downloaded it. 24 hours later, I bought the game.

I first found out about GAL Civ II from....

comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.strategic

The countless posts, reading over many months, about GC I and then GC II suggested that there might be something worth looking at This has been my very first experience of playing this type of game; I really thought I wouldn't enjoy it at all. Now it dominates all my playing time and I love it.

Just maybe a first time player might find the game a little easier now since the latest round of patches but I must admit the learning curve was a little steep to the point of almost thinking that I had wasted my money. Whilst the tutorials, manual and the newbie guide here has a value there are still sooo many very basic questions that I was left puzzling over that greatly compromised my ability to play the game, and enjoy it.

I first learn about Galciv2 from ve3d.ign.com (a gaming newsite I visite daily).

At the time, I was enjoying X3-reunion (despite bugs) and I remember looking at the screenshots and complained about how the graphics of the games were bad, which resulted in I believe, one of the dev team to comment on my reply about how early the shots were. I also learn about the entire "copy protection" issue and how galciv2 didn't had any on penny-arcade.com (I love those guys). Since X-3 reunion had Starforce I just decided to stop playing it and go with Galciv2.

Anyway, since I was a Sci-fi fan who wanted to try something new, I bought the game... So far, I blame Galciv2 for my problems... I keep going to bed way pass 1h00am every night while I need to be up at 6h00am.... 5 hours of sleep everynight isn't going to help me in my work... Yeah I blame your Stardock!!!!!!

Civfanatics.com........................ I love Civ4 and heard a lot of talk about GalCiv in the Civ4 forums, So when the Demo became available I tried it and found out what a great game it is, and I also found out what a great company STARDOCK is!!! Just yesterday I found out about your new game Society, now I following that game, I think I might become a long time fan of Stardock..........

Shack News ( Link) was where I first heard that GalCivII was in production. I'd heard of GalCivI's success in the aftermath of the MOO3 fiasco, so came to watch this one in earnest.

I'd also recommend getting future news releases to WorthPlaying (Link) and Game Rankings.com (Link)

I don't know who else said it, but I too had to refresh the page multiple times before I could vote in the poll.

I had the original GalCiv and liked it okay. It wasn't my favorite game in the world, but I was very impressed by the continued support Stardock provided. I also knew Brad had mentioned on numerous occasions that he wanted to do a sequel, so I made sure to periodically check in now and then to see if I could catch an announcement of GalCiv 2. I was happy to see my patience eventually pay off.

The stardock (other) is misleading.
I expect most of these are like me in that I heard about Galciv2 while on the GalCiv(ONE) site. Basically you stated that there was a new web site called Galciv2 for the new game being created. I then lurked at this site since it was created.

Yeah, only works with IE. I had the main page open in both IE and firefox, and only IE shows the poll (and then results after you vote). Firefox only shows the results immediately.

Well thats odd... I could vote but only if I was a guest.
