what i would like to see in 1.2

their are a couple of little things i'd like to see for patch 1.2 for example

1. instead of a moon auto maticaly giving you a bonus to production you should be able to chose what kind of moonbase is on it (bonus to reseach, production, or planitary defense)
2. when starting a game the abilty to chose the fequency of random events (rare, common, abundent)
3. the abilty to chose the fequency of bonus tiles on planets
4. the minor races to have a bigger part to play
5. the abilty to play a game as one of the minor races (with your objective being to get enough power and influence to be counted as a major race)
6. perhaps the minor races could have their own version of the united planets (the minor league?)

I think the only difference between the major races and the minor races is the ability to colonise/occupy other planets on their own. Make a custom race and consider yourself a "minor" ...same sorta thing in my mind.

The ability to set the frequency of bonus tiles and random events is something I would like to see as well...

My wish list would look more like...

1. In the management screen, I want to be able to see the colony list with it showing the icons of the ships docked there so I can quickly see where I can build a fleet, where I forgot to set up autoforwards, and where I can see both population and whether or not a transport is in place.

2. A Check Box for whether or not to save a design for future games (I'd settle for it at the ship design or game level). I use the same names from game to game for slightly different designs and it turns into a real mess as it is now.

Great game

1. I would like the implemetation of some slow movement in starbases.
2. The ability to also garrison ships or fleets in the starbase that would add to the firepower and defence capabilities of the starbase.
it is frustrating having a starbase in an area that was once suitable and not being able to move it to another required location. Would add another dimension to the game.

How about orbitting ships being visible on the map? Sorry, everytime I see the load screen that says 'looking at planets tells you lots of stuff', I think 'it doesn't tell you anything about the ships there: the 'defended' shield doesn't tell you if it's one scout or several battleships'. Visible ships would do that: just use the same sort of system freighters use. It'd just be neat, like the planet lights etc.

Well, I would like to see some tweaks to United Planets (ie. ability to propose your own bills, UP gathering once every 3 months or even working constantly - something like in MOO3); and tweaks to espionage (especially in counterintelligence area).

TACTICAL COMBAT!!!!

Just kidding although I still think something could be done to add some more strategy then just throwing ships into the melee. There have been a lot of good ideas brought up on this subject that I think should be considered.

The other area I would like to see improvements to is Diplomacy.

The only way to declare war on someone is to attack them. What if I was on the other side of the map from a race I wanted to declare war with and I had an ally between me and that race. I would like a way to declare war and thrust my ally into it and since he is closer I could just feed this ally ships and money and let him do your dirty work. The AI seems to be able to declare war on the player at anytime, fair is fair.

Demeanor could play a part in negotiations. Having a threatening tone for your demanded gift would increase your chance of getting it if the race was weaker. Other good races would see this as a bad thing and would decrease their relations with you because they would see you as a bully whereas evil races may respect you more and increase their relations. Begging on the other hand may increase your chances of getting something with a stronger good race and possibly increase relations due to pity but decrease relations with all evil races since they would see you as weak. Out and Out Begging, Politely Request, Neutral, Firmly Request, and Demanding could be four levels to choose from. This could also make for some interesting dialog between the player and the races.

Have different degrees of an alliance such as a Trade Alliance before you could have trade (Neutral relations or better), A Technological Alliance before you could trade non-military techs (friendly relations or better) and finally a Military Alliance which would be like ally is now (Close relations or better) and a Military Alliance is needed to trade military techs. This would also help with the issues people have with unrestricted tech trading.

These are some of my thoughts.

About minor races i would ask only that everyone get their own portrait and they could colonize their star system. It's not too much but implementing these addons and changes in the game would be really good:
-with only 1 planet on large maps minors totally sucks
-having 25 minor races but only 3-4 portraits is really sucking and unimmersive.I have played a gigantic map with only one major race to see all minor races and i had to play with 4-5 scottlingas, 3-4 jessuins and 4-5 alkilians.Very unimmersive experience. Please new portrait for minors are really needed!!!!

agreed...

I added a bunch of custom pictures and race icons.. but the computer never uses them.... ugh

1. Not an act of war to attack an armed ship of a foreign empire when its in your territory.
1a. Perhaps the ability to "eject" foreign fleets or the opposing empire faces war.
2. Diplomatic agreements to move through controlled territory, ala Civ III.
3. More diplomatic options and arrangements.
4. More control over density in the random galaxy setup. Perhaps a configuration file to define what "abundant" means. Perhaps the ability to specifiy numbers instead of categories.
5. Implement espionage.
6. Control of the number of precursor this'es and that's on planets.
7. Differentiate "influence" over foreign empires based on political alignements. For example, an influential empire with War Party leanings might cause the War Party in the foreign empire to start accruing votes. IOW, the "influence" ability would then cast a meaningful shadow into other empires outside of simply "capturing" planets.

Thanks, Stardock... my wife isn't too pleased with this new game I've purchased (OK, she's not pleased that I'm spending so much time in front of the PC), but it's the best thing I've seen, or played, in years. It's absolutely reminiscent of MOO and MOM, two of my all-time favorites. I also appreciate the amount of work you're doing with the bug fixes and enhancements, and hope the larger publishers take notice that that kind of thing wins you customers.

Anyway, here's my wish list for 1.2:

1. Lightspeed Starport/Star Gate (tech upgrade to the Starport building) – with this building, ships could be routed (upon creation?) to another system owned by the player with a corresponding Star Gate.

2. Death Stars - at least a model! But what I’d really like is some moon-sized hull that’s very expensive to create, but is hard-limited to 1 pc/round.

3. Give us the ability to randomize the tech tree depth – certain ‘branches’ would be limited in how far you could go.

4. More numbers! I’d like to be able to hover (ala morale) over my military, social, and research numbers and see exactly how they’re being generated (planets, trade goods, etc.)

5. More Planet Reports – I’d like to be able to search on specific building types and see where they exist in my planets. With large games, it’s hard to remember where you built that technological capital, or which planet has your Ultra Spices.

6. Earlier tech building – allow us to build ‘obsolete’ buildings. For example, want to build a crude factory on a new world? Go for it. Discovery spheres too expensive for now? Build a xeno lab.

7. System shrouds - with this (deep tech) ability, military starbases can hide your ship movements in the effected area.

8. Starbase range/affected area expansion - make it very expensive, but give me a reason to keep sending constructors to those bases!

9. Genesis device! Give us a Deep tech to genesis-effect class 0's, and add usable squares to existing planets - very expensive, but this would keep us micromanagers happy!

10. ‘Galactic Resource’ consumption - instead of mining it, could we use it for an instant one-time boost? Or, allow us to destroy it to remove it from enemy territories.

11. Remove the slider/green(or red) text in the negotiations phase, and replace it with a confidence scale that the trade will work. Right now, I can somehow miraculously read the body language of my trading counterparts (do the Yor even HAVE facial expressions?) to know how to squeeze every last bc out of them. Trading shouldn’t be so easy.

12. If possible, when Loading games, take me to exactly where I was - don't take me to the research screen and then a world production screen. I know what I’m building!

13. Make trade/trade lengths scale with the size of the galaxy. I just don't think it's an effective money-maker right now in anything but huge games.

Thanks! Even if none of the above get worked into 1.2, I’m definitely looking forward to it!

A couple of minor things that I think would be great additions:

Stable Wormholes. Particularly on larger maps, or in the early stages of the game where space is at a premium wormholes could really change things depending on how and where they crop up. They could not only suddenly leave you facing those dreaded Yor centuries earlier than you thought you'd have to, but could also add choke-point tactics to the game.

Starbase range. Someone I think mentioned this, and it really seems like a good idea. I would like it if my starbases could exert direct military control over an area surrounding them, or at least could launch the first attack on ships surrounding them. My thought would be like a two parsec range for all attacks; that way the starbase is limited in its reach, but it can also be placed to protect critical positions.

Dread Lords. I think this has been mentioned, but please do allow a Dread Lords option in the random mode of the game (I liked the way MOO2 did it, although the idea of the dread lords taking planets instead of just annihilating them is good too).

Income. In the lower left corner of the main screen, where it tells you your treasury balance and shows green for positive income and yellow for negative income, would it be plausible to put that income figure next to the balance? I think that would be pretty convenient, to be able to know not only if I'm making or losing money but by how much at a glance.

Hello,

My wish list would be as follows:

1. The ability to bombard planets as in MOO 2.
2. Not having to save a ship design every time as I like to design new ships every game.
3. When you go to upgrade a ship, I would like it to stay the way it was before I start changing it. Right now, everything but the hull disappears, and you start from scratch. What if I want to just upgrade the engines or something? Maybe have a screen where you can just say to upgrade the engines, and they are then placed where the original ones were.
4. Give the option at the start of the game to have a completely random game where all you say is to start a new random game. I like not knowing what is coming up. It would be fun to start not knowing how big the universe is, what race I'll be and what my race is even like, etc...
5. Starbase movement would be really cool. Why would they need to stay in one place anyways. I'm sure they could have little thrusters on them or something. That would be really cool.
6. More portraits for minor races would be good. As above in MARIOFLAG's post.
7. TACTICAL COMBAT...Both in space and on land would be the best. With an option to not have it as I'm sure not all players would want it.
8. The ability to build older versions of buildings. Like a basic factory instead of the upgraded version. As above in TUX42's post.
9. Something to do with all those unusable planets. How about just having outposts as in MOO2 to expand the range of your ships. I hate seeing so many unuseable planets!!
10. Stargates to instantly move units from here to there would be cool.
11. One thing I thought was cool in MOO3 was that you expended researched in a certain area instead of a specific tech. It would be fun to expend money into just a military fund and not knowing what exactly your scientists/inventors are going to come up with, and when. I always thought it kinda hokey to know exactly what you're going to research, exactly when you'll get it, and exactly what it'll do before you even pick it.
12. In Galciv 1, you could click on any given spot and find the influence of all races there. I really miss that.
13. The ability to train spies as in MOO 3 and have them do specific jobs was a cool idea. The espionage in this game is a little too little.
14. Carrier type ships with small one man fighters and bombers would be way fun.
15. There should be only one way to exit each screen. I hate it when I'm picking a ship for a colony to build and I exit the colony instead of going back to the main colony screen because I hit the done button instead of the back button.
16. You shouldnt be able to know how much you can trade something for by watching the colors of the text during diplomatic talks. If your selling something to someone, all you have to do is wait until the text turns red, and then you know its too much. It would be fun to make offers and be turned down, etc... Maybe eventually your opponent would get angry at your crazy offers and refuse to talk for a few tuirns, etc...
17. Your demeanior during talks would be cool too. As above in Vernimators post.
18. When one of your colonies is getting ready to switch sides, in Galciv 1, you could pay for propagande to help stop it from happening, I would like that in Galciv 2 as well.

Okay, so that was alot. If none of my ideas get used, I'll still love this game. Keep up the great work, and thanks for such an awesome game!

Did anyone ever play Birth of the Federation? It was a turn based Star Trek game that came out many, many years ago. I really liked how they implimented tactical space combat. It was all number based, but also had several attack and defense options. Depending on which you selected vs what the other person selected determined your effictiveness. For exable, "evasive maneuvers" got a bonus vs "charge" and the such. Individual ships could be made to run and hide while others moved to defend them. If something like that could be done, I'd be forever impressed. Either way, well done designers. You guys are right up there with Paradox when it comes to supporting the games you make. Well done.

1. More indepth diplomacy. They can say, "I know what your doing" but we can't. Be able to change our relationship with the AI. IE. change my stance to "cool". Be able to send simple threats or request like get your God **** ships out of our territory, or don't trade with so and so.

2. I love this game but I think this would be better than it is currently. You can built fleets and you should be able to build armies. This whole troop system is a little silly. Every tax payer is not going to fight to the death. Not building armies keeps the game simpler but less realalistic.

Low quality textures for ships for people whose computer is not fully DX9 compliant. Instead of looking at "Lego Ships". (Hey if my video card can draw the models it can place some textures.)

Ship Design Manager: - accessable from the main menu, this would allow you to choose from a library of different (previously made) custom ship designs, create 'groups' of custom ships, and choose what 'group' you'd like to use for your next game.

I've not read the list of asks from people above for 1.2 -- but I want to add a (hopefully) simple one. When I select a ship or fleet or ships, the display shows me the attack for all weapon types, defense for all weapon types, and the hitpoints cumulative. The problem is that while my ships are within my military starbase field of influence, they are obviously much better offensively and defensively. I'd like to see the numbers show what numbers are from the actual ship and which ones are from bonuses that won't apply if you move the ship. Maybe something that shows: 0 (+3) to indicate I had 0 beam natively, but +3 from starbase boosts.

There's an option in Beta 1.1 that allows you to make it so that upgrading a design does NOT start over from scratch. I don't know what it's called, but it's somewhere in the options list.

Hey , thanks drawfour. That would help a bunch. I didn't notice that in the list seeing as how big it is and all.

I don't remember seeing it in the changelist either... I just stumbled on it in the options. In options, click on the Interface tab. The last option under "Ship Designer" is "Remove Functional Components When Upgrading a Ship Design." The default is checked. Just uncheck it. (Maybe it was there in 1.0 but I just missed it?)
