Of course I know that Betas make everybodyies machines crash!! However, after 4 of them, the crashes should be getting fewer rather than more numerous!!!

I am not talking about other companies tech support either, I am comparing GC2 tech support to previous Strategy First/Stardock games' tech support! By comparsion is is much poorer. They should have the same or more people working tech support than they have in the past (and if not, why not?0!

And finally, I wouldn't mind a week's delay in getting an answer, It's the 3 weeks to more than a month, if an answer is given at all and the question/problem not just ignored.

So don't you be an AH**e!

Bit of an odd one, started a new game on a large map with AI set to normal and the randomise AI option selected. It seems that all of my opponents have decided to colonise but not develop any worlds or build fleets.

I've wiped out 2 civilisations and found both had not built more than two or three structures on any world. From what I can see I'm outstripping every other race out there and not batting an eyelid. Either they are all on extremely low AI settings (comatose or just sub-idiot) or the AI is just broken and not developing anything.

Will try another game or two and see what happens.


edit - Tried a tiny map with 2 opponents set to challenging, they seem to be playing normally. Maybe I got an abnormally high number of idiot opponents or its maybe its the randomiser?

Not exactly a glitch, but I couldn't find better place to ask.

Since constructors display the area of effect of future starbase I've been wondering how the not fully covered border "squares" are handled. I remember a situation where I've been carefully placing the con to cover as much planets as possible, but ended with 1 "border" planet inside the circle, and another one (half covered with circle) outside.
What I'd like to see is a dialog window, that would come up when I click the Construct button, that will tell me which colonized planets will be influenced, and an option to cancel the build, if I'm not satisfied. Alternate method would paint all the affected "squares" and offer the commit/cancel option.

Phantom fleets.

Reproduction: Select a starbase. Press F.
Result: You get a fleet with no ships in it.
Expected result: No action, maybe an error message

Have not tried it with multiple ships selected with a starbase or with an AI freighter (on a trade route) selected to see the behavior there.

It's not a big deal:
1) You can remove the fleet using the fleet manager
2) I mistaking press F instead of D (details) about once a year (low, but noticable, rate)

Game ALWAYS chashes (at least in this game). It was a simple normal-sized Galaxy starting with 5 races (6 including mine). By now there are only three races left (me included) and I have researched about 80% of the whole technology tree (Which I think is the main problem).

Other than that, I don't know what else to say about the problem itself, below is my system info, and even further below are the lines after my last save before the game crashed.


PS. Yes, I know my video drivers are a bit outdate but I doubt that's it. Nonetheless, it's not like I could update them. Gateway has the call on that one (this being a Gateway notebook afterall)...

I just Downloaded the Beta [b4} .17 and now I crash before the game begins. I play custom games and never had a problem before. I can custom my game just fine and then, a few seconds after the universe is being created, it crashes. The debug.err shows the 2 following errors:

I also get the following twice (may not be an error):

I can post the required hardware that is at the beginning of the file but I don't want to clutter this forum if it's not neccesary. Especially since these error messages imply an incorrect pointer or such.

OK. I got it working. I went to the "My Documents\My Games\Galciv2" folder and cleaned out my previous games and such. Then, when I went back into the game, I had to redo all of my previous settings. After that, it worked fine.

I have been having these few ship designer problems with all 1.1 betas:

1. When I first load the game and for the first time create new design or upgrade ship this happens.



Obviously some color is missing, when selecting a component, whole ship becomes black. Next time Iam using Ship designer everything works fine

2. When upgrading a Core ship while option "Remove functional components when upgrading a ship design" is ENABLED, this happens:

Just wanted to let you know that when I get an AI planet it still has that glich were they have biult stuff were the can not cause they did not do any kind of terra foming or planet improvment first.

This is balance bug:

Life Support modules -> In the shipbuilder, the costs are listed properly, but (at least with Basic Support, maybe others) you're charged the cost rather than the size when you add the component, as long as you can still fit the component based on the size.

Specifically, the Basic Support Module is cost 2, size 4, but when you add it and you're say at 49/55 or 51/55, it only consumes 2 space points, When you're at say 53/55, it'll say the module's too big.

Also, I built some fast colony ships and explorer ships (with Hyperdrive Plus engines) in a previous game (Beta 3, I think), under the Drath. When I started this game, also as the Drath, I was able to upgrade the ship designs that carried over from my old game (without removing the components) and they suddenly had a lot more space, as if the engines only had been removed. I'm not sure of the exact math.

This allowed me to make several illegal designs. I had a colony ship with 7 engines on it and and explorer ship with 12. This was without researching new techs. Removing the engines and then adding them back on seemed to behave properly, though. (ie no illegal stuffing.)

Later on the design costs fixed themselves (due to miniaturization, maybe?) and so I couldn't upgrade them anymore - not that I had to. Also, the bug existed only as long as I didn't remove the engines and replace them with something else.

Solved my problem as far as I can tell. It turned out that it was the motherboard. It needed a BIOS update because the original board's BIOS conflicted with newer graphics cards and anything using 3D graphics effects. Anyway, if you happen to own model GA-K8N51GMF-9 from Gigabyte, you'll need to re-flash your BIOS to the latest version to avoid the auto-rebooting problem (it's version F6, I had to manually download it and use their @BIOS program to install it, but it worked fine). Anyway, again, if you have the board above, which is an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ with an integrated Nvidia 6100 card from Gigabyte, you'll need to apply the latest BIOS update to eliminate the crashing and auto-rebooting problem. Also, I was experiencing this problem on every game I played, not just GalCiv2.

Beyond that, though, I did experience a freeze last night where I had to manually shut down my system. It happened after about 3 hours of play. I'll post my debug error log later.

While in metaverse, game locks up after a bunch of turns (e.g. 31), even with autosave turned off. The lockup is in the turn processing and does not freeze my laptop. I can manually save and exit. Turn processing is generally a few seconds. This does not occur in regular, non-metaverse.

I'm on Windows 98 and I experience a crash to desktop of the April 20 beta when I or the computer attack a heavily armed starbase. It seems to involve beam weapons. on the attacking ship although I cannot be sure.

Here's an easy one, for me any way. Take a colony ship with 500 in it, try to send it back into dock or into a dock on another planet, instant CTD.

Hi,

I have a problem when loading a previously saved game. The first time I press 'done' after loading, the date (in the right upper corner of the screen) doesn't change. In addition no social, military or scientific production occurs. However I can move my ships (just to indicate that the 'end turn' has been processed).

Reproducing this bug is easy:
Start a new game by choosing 'new game' from the options menu. Click 'next' until the new game starts. Click on the 'options' button in the upper left corner on the screen and save your game (test.sav). Click the 'options' button again and load the previously saved game. Now hit the 'done' button. The date in the upper right corner still indicates the 1st of January 2225... If you want to verify the production behaviour, just start building a building and a ship on your home plannet before hitting the 'done' button.

I'm having a crash to desktop problem whenever I start up the "Apocalypse" campaign mission. It crashse once the mission has started to load and the loading screen has come up.
I've also noticed that I've managed to create a ship with masses of sensors for a sensor range of about 16. I counted up the total space that should have been used up, but have discovered that I've somehow managed to squeeze approximately 10-15 units more of space from the ship.

At random points during the game, my mouse cursor freezes. I mean the little pointy thing. However, oddly enough, I can still interact with the computer, just with an invisible cursor as the real cursor just hangs out on-screen. It also reacts to other things where the cursor should change, like becoming a little I over text input areas. However, it still never moves. I have to restart the computer to get rid of it.

Hello all.
I'm hooked to this game and that makes it all the more a torture when it keeps crashing on me (i'm using beta4 0.18 and it crashes for me a lot more than the previous beta)

I'm currently playing a challenging setting game, gigantic map, Thalan and 7 other civs. I have a puny 2,8GHz P4 1Gb RAM, Radeon 9600. I'm nearing the endgame (almost got those self-righteous altarians) and the game crashes every 2 turns or so when saving (whether auto or manual). I have to save from times to times since the game eventually crashes on me anyway, without saving.

Furthermore, it takes AGES to load a saved game (several minutes).

Oh, and the no production after loading is a bit annoying too.

Please, let me finish this game, it's my first at challenging where I don't get kicked to the ground.

Trading routes are maxed out at 12 regardless of what bonus you get. Neutrality says I get 3 more routes, but with Adv Trade, I already have 10, so I only get 2, not 3 new routes. Other bonuses that you get for one thing or another, e.g., Council voting to add new routes, don't add more than the max, so if you have 12, that is all you get. Is this a bug or a feature?

Not a glitch but definetly worth fixing.

Is there time to fix the Ability choosing screen? Bit confusing when the Race ability bonuses can be switched OFF and not getting any points from it etc. Just confusing at the moment, maybe racial abilities could be shown in different colour and be unmodifiable?

Ok, an update to my bug report. I've updated my antediluvian catalyst drivers (I know, having four months old drivers is begging for trouble. My last update was when I've spent 6 days before being able to get to the Civ IV menu...)

So, now it doesn't crash every other turn when saving. I've been able to play for 20 turns before it crashed on saving. Much much better, but since my last update, the arcean and the drath have decided to attack me. Well.

There's no debug file this time. And my QuickSave is 0 bytes long. HTH.

First, love the game and job you're all doing!

1. During ship design it is possible to end up with more parts than you should. I have a save game that shows a medium class ship with seven engines and weapons plus good alignment defenses. I believe this happened somehow when I was deleting and moving parts during the design.

The game doesn't seem to fill my transports all the way when using Rallypoints or clicked off from the notification buttons. I built a ship "Behemoth Transport" with 6000 troop capacity. If I manually moved it out of planet, I of course could use the slider, but when I auto-left orbit or simply let the ships autonav to the Rallypoints they often only carried around 2500 troops, or even less than that if the planet's population was small (ie, if the planet's population was around 3 billion to begin with, I'd get less than 2500 troops.)

Since I can't view how many troops an individual transport (or even the whole lot of them) is carrying while it's in a fleet, this is sort of annoying.

No save games will load for me. I played for awhile and saved went to bed the next day attempted to load my saved game and crashed, tried autosave crashed as well. I have Gal Civ2 on 3 computers and all of them have this problem since last patch to BETA.

Hi!
I couldn't find more suitable place for full 1.1 glitch report.

1) When upgrading a mining or econ starbase are icons on pop-up window for the econ/mining options the same as for military upgrades.
2) When a planet isn't producing anything social and I click focus on the military I got significantly more military production than I should. Probably the redirected social production is counted twice.
