alright now that thats out of the way.... I love wasting my day playing a game that runs fine for the entire day, gets me to a point that I am now a major power in the galaxy, lets me dictate policy to the lesser powers, saves fine, and then crashes my file over and over and over and over again... ... R u guys trying to piss me off? will I even get a #(*&ing answer too this post, hell will it even save this post IN the bug reports (knowing that the forum is messed up, probly not).

The game is nice, the game is kinda balanced, the game has a kicking AI, cost 40+ dollars, and is buggy as hell... I know that there are always growing pains with software people (believe me I know), but you guys couldn't even make a gme that allows you to access save game files that are not corrupted and save correctly? Come on... O and if another one of you says "Check too make sure your: drivers are up to date, cache file is large enough, game is patched" I am going to find you and do nasty things to whatever appendagesI leave on your body after I am thru pushing it in a thresher.

This rant brought too you by 'Angry Consumer' "When life companies sell you lemons... call teh BBB."

Ever since I've patched up to most recent, the only time I ever crash is when I try to clone a starbase or upgrade a group of ships that have been put in a fleet.

Hey, I'm not complaining, mind you. I just think it's as funny as hell. Too bad using the upgrade-planet-quality-cheat doesn't actually add more tiles though. Is that ever going to get "fixed"?

Yes, I've played the game normally without cheating. Yes, I've finished the campaign and played most of the scenarios. Yes, I've played the game on every difficulty level. Yes, cheating is bad and leads to blindness, infertility, and an increase of telemarketing calls and religious solicitors knocking at your door.

But every now and again, it's really, really, really fun to just play God and see what the game will let you get away with.

I had 'drop to desktop' issues with the first version and the final beta. They were still there after the first patch. They seem to be completely gone now. The game seems to be much more stable now, but I have seen a few weird things.

One thing that was really weird (with the current patch) was I captured an altarian planet and had a bunch of my ships occupy the planet. For about 5 turns afterward the planet kept showing 4 altarian frigates, even though I controlled the planet and had many of my ships in there. After about 5 turns my ships started showing up again. I also had a ship get stuck near a star and I ultimately had to decomission it. I gave a bunch of gift ships to a minor race once and they just sat around my planets which was really annoying.

I never had a corrupted save game and I only play with all the civs and gigantic universe.

This game may admittedly have more bugs than some releases - thats not in doubt, but its better balanced than any. I have yet to see an unbeatable strategy or a vastly overpowered weapon.Although Nano Rippers etc could be pushed one step back up the tech tree. What annoys me is people saying crap like "Its the buggiest game i've heard of/played/owned".

Where to Start, even recently? Battlefield 2 anyone?

Yea, the heat thing really screwed us up.

In the post-mortem for GalCiv 1, I talked about how in a future sequel we'd focus on play testing on lower end hardware.  This time, we did that but the people with high end hardware (or simply decent cards) were more apt to run into the heat issue.

I'm just glad we were able to solve the issue. and if anyone gets really stuck and support can't help them, they can contact me directly.

I still think a lot of the crashes, especially CTDs when hitting next turn or loading a game have to do with ships that are on auto-pilot or auto-explore and such. I was having "random" CTDs and stumbled on deleting a specific ship (in the first case my survey ship that was teleported out of range and was auto-piloting back) stopped the crash. Clicking on the ship and sending it somewhere would do a CTD, and hitting turn and letting it move automatically would CTD.

On a later game, an auto-explore ship was doing the same thing. Somehow it got "bugged" and was causing a CTD when it moved or moved when I hit end turn. Deleting the ship stopped the problem.

Just something to try for those of you with saved games that seem to be corrupt or crash when you hit next turn or are experiencing random CTDs.

I autosave every turn, don't see why everyone else doesn't, it only takes a second, ok maybe 2 to 3 seconds max. Good thing I do this also, cause I've had some wierd things happen like the 3D graphics disappear and it looks like the zoomed out strategic map even when zoomed all the way in. (only happened until I rebooted my system) lol The other is that silly 409999999.00 billion population after using the propaganda attack selection and I lose most all of my attack troups, but, still win the battle with the population that came over to my side. (hope you are fixing this Froggie? I also had one lockup when I tried to use the scroll race button underneath the picture of one of the races when there was no other race to scroll to. That's been the extent of the bugs I've encountered in the game. The game is pretty stable for the most part to me. Glad I'm not playing on a DELL. lol
