alright now that thats out of the way.... I love wasting my day playing a game that runs fine for the entire day, gets me to a point that I am now a major power in the galaxy, lets me dictate policy to the lesser powers, saves fine, and then crashes my file over and over and over and over again... ... R u guys trying to piss me off? will I even get a #(*&ing answer too this post, hell will it even save this post IN the bug reports (knowing that the forum is messed up, probly not).

The game is nice, the game is kinda balanced, the game has a kicking AI, cost 40+ dollars, and is buggy as hell... I know that there are always growing pains with software people (believe me I know), but you guys couldn't even make a gme that allows you to access save game files that are not corrupted and save correctly? Come on... O and if another one of you says "Check too make sure your: drivers are up to date, cache file is large enough, game is patched" I am going to find you and do nasty things to whatever appendagesI leave on your body after I am thru pushing it in a thresher.

This rant brought too you by 'Angry Consumer' "When life companies sell you lemons... call teh BBB."

Did you save, then patch, and try and reload? Also, post your debugg.err file, and last but not least, a post like this is never likely to get a response. Ever. As its, how shall we put it, "Immature as hell". A well thought out post does wonders, as do manners and patience.

Actually, often even the well thought out constructive criticism posts get attacked by fanboys. Not saying you are one. Still, you are right, this post doesn't exactly help anyone, lol, except maybe the original poster...he might be relieved after yelling and screaming like that.

Yeah... is this your first post about your problems? And you're already going "OMG, no one gives me help, no one listens to me!!!"?

I mean... what?

So when you try to load your old save it crashes right? This happened to me before, try loading an autosave from the same match then loading your latest save (it worked when I tried it).

Also calm down, do you want help or just to whine.

Did you tried all save files? There are the "auto save" and the "previous auto save" besides any other you named yourself. Pressing the quicksaving there is even a fourth one name "quicksave". It would be hard to get them all corrupted.

Its going to be funny when we find out he's not playing with the patched game version.

It doesn't matter.

If he bought the game and came home and it crashed on him then he has every right - even a duty really - to yell loudly about it. It's unacceptable and it's my game.

I don't think -- or let me put it this way -- I know the game isn't buggy in the general sense. But let's face it, we know for a fact that the shipping retail game -- the 1.0, had the problem he described for around 2.5% of users and that in most cases it had to do with overheating or other hardware related things.

But we should have still found that.  1.0X should solve all his problems, if it doesn't, then I doubly want to hear about it.

Latest patch seems to have corrected my crash problems (knock on wood). I did throttle the GPU per suggestions. Have a gigantic galaxy with abundant planets and stars going now with 0 crashes since start.

I only had one crash, my fault
The rest the game works 100% perfect! Except a weird ingame bug which I'm going to post
Reply #12 Top
The only crash I get is when i miniturise the game. Then it crashes 100% of the time

Pentium 4 3.8ghz
2 gig ram
ATI Raedon x600 256mb

Notice how the original poster hasn't said anything since he posted this. I hate people who do that.

It seems to me that GalCiv2 may have some issues with its initial installion process. I say this because I, too, have experienced the crash-on-reload problem, as well as the crash to desktop problem that occurs for no reason whatsoever. I experienced both of these problems once, each during the first few games that I tried playing, before and after applying the patch. After that first day or so, however, I have not seen either problem since (or any problems for that matter). For no reason whatsoever, the game now plays flawlessly.

It makes me wonder about how GalCiv2 registers its files during installation and whether or not certain files aren't being registered/referenced correctly during the first few start ups. The game has been fine for me the last few days, but for the first day or so that wasn't the case at all. The only change that has occurred is that the 'glitches' seem to have mysteriously gone away.

I was playing a game - got a great empire going, saved returned to the gaame and there was no save file. There was no auto save because I turn it off being acutely aware of space problems on my computer. I had a brief flash of Oh man! - then started a new game. Sh-- happens - especially in a new game. Would my ranting and raving help the staff to correct any problems - NO. Do I think this is a great game and am I appreciateativeof the staff for producing this gem - YES.
I wish people would stop trashing games because they had a problem with it. Games never come out of the box with no problems - never. This is not due to shoddy programming like some people claim - it is due to there being a vast variety of configurations of pc parts called computers out there. I have a home-made computer - how is the staff going to know how to make a product designed to work right on my computer? I think we should applaud the staff for such a great job, Hope the make many updates and go on to create several xpansion packs.

I had the same problem with the last build of the game corrupted to saves the only file that would reload was the quick file...This carried over into the new build as well. But I create a couple of save files I always write over. Until I erased those files and recreated them It would always say it saved fine but would CDT when I tried to load them. So I deleted those files created them again with the same names and its been good to go since. Yes is was a pain and I would have been real mad if I had lost a 4 day game. Fortunatly I remembered the quick save file and happened to try that. I was able to finish my game using just that file. It wasnt until starting a new game after the patch that I realized that both those save game slots were still corrupt.
The game seems to be alot more stable now since the patch. Not a single CDT and I had quite few.
And to be "cute" no disrespect but just for grins ...there is never a CDT for no reason there is always a reason we just dont see it. I know its a bad joke just couldnt resist. Remember these are games, not life and death.

One thing I did during the first few days was make sure that the game saved automatically every 3 turns or so. (There is a setting for this in the options screen.) This diminished the need to thrash my computer if the game crashed for some reason. After it stopped having problems, I set the default quick-save back to a higher turn number.

Overall, I think the game is fine. The first few days were a little shaky, but in the end it seems to have worked itself out somehow. Now the game seems very stable. The original poster should let us know how things are going in the next couple of days and whether or not he is using updated drivers.

WOW! What a post. That's the spirit, man, that's the spirit! You're much better than I am under the same circumstances. Bravo, really! If it was my product, I would really ignore the accusing shouters, eventually.

Greatmirror: I kind of agree with you. Though I wasn't saying the poster was wrong to come on to the forum and ask for help, I think he was wrong for doing it so brashly. He's asking things to the devs like "Are you guys trying to piss me off?" when it's the fist time he posts about his problems. He says things like "Will I even get an answer?" when it's his first post.

Yes, he was RIGHT to hop onto the forum and ask for help.
But he was WRONG to do it so negatively. Ask once, politely, see what it brings you.

I have all the patches and the vid and audio drivers are all updates, but I just had the same buggy situation as this fellow. I saved last night after getting a great empire set up and now this morning the game crashes when I try to load that saved game. THere are more bugs in this game than most others that I have ever played. I do see soo much potential and I loved the 1st game. but this game needs over a 2 months of polishing to be store ready. The producers really seem to have droped the bal on this one. I have to say though that they are trying very hard to fix these bugs. THis is more than I could ever say for Atari. THose guys put out some games that are crap and then dont support them after. Even with all the bugs I still give these guys a lot of credit.

I got a CTD about every 1-2hrs, but i have it autosaved every 3 turns, so i just load up the game and load my saves. It is annoyin (espeically if you have a blast wiping out the terrans on normal diff.) but i feel if am having this much fun its worth 40$ or perhaps 50$. And i know these problems will be addressed and fixed in later patchs, next time it CTDs and copy and paste the relvient tech info.

FOr reference this is my system specs w/ latest avaible drivers

AMD X2 3800+ (latest cpu driver from AMD directly)
ATI X1900XTX 512mb GPU (6.3 drivers from ATI directly)
2gig of Ram
Asus SLI Socket 939 Premium (latest beta bios build and chipset drivers)
Sound Blaster 2 ZS (latest drivers from Creative Directly)
OS- Windows XP PRO Sp2 (fully updated with latest patchs etc)
Game- Gal CIv 2 (1.0x2 build March 06,2006) only mod - ships mod (adds blank hulls so you can use whatever)

Questions, Citizen christian97470 - did you patch between playing the game and saving it? Did you patch before or after you started the game? Does this happen with all saved games or just the one?
