This Is Ridiculous

This Is Ridiculous

I'd be playing Galactic Civilizations 2 right now instead of posting this if the game didn't crash every 15 minutes and have bugs coming out its *ss. This is one of many reasons why PC gaming is on its death bed. If this is what passes for "quality" and "customer oriented" then it's no wonder PC games makes up a measly 15% of the gaming market now.

Next time, finish your game before shipping it to retail (or releasing it on the web for that matter.) And no, don't ask me to be patient and to wait for patches or to be helpful and post bug reports on your website. We are not your beta testers. We pay money for what is supposed to be your FINISHED PRODUCT, not so we can wait around for it to be finished or help you finish it.

Troll attack!
He just wants to scream names and insult the game and the forum poster!

This is like Heavensblade but twice as worse. At least Heavensblade didn't blatantly insult things.

As far as I'm concerned... Get the patch, update your drivers, clear your head then come back.

If you have a problem with patching, contact stardock via e-mail or post a plea for help in the Bug forum, don't post whines and rants.

shadow just ignore hereticked.

he first states how bad the game is cause it crashes every 15 minutes and how theres TOONNNS of bugs.

the reason its crashing every 15 minutes is his fault, so later on he has to start claiming the game is full of gameplay bugs, and can only list 1(iv found 2 myself).

most likely the other bug with the starport is the fact he didnt know how to demolish structures....

hereticked:"now instead of posting this if the game didn't crash every 15 minutes(im too lazy to update drivers) and have bugs coming out its *ss(I can only think of 1 atm)
"

Well, jpcarrol, I'd recomend making a new thread... this ones in the toilet.
I think we may be able to attract on employee instead of forum hate them into oblivion somewhere else. I'd be happy to try to fix your problem, though I'm for some part I am technically inept, but I know based on how many people in this thread that were posting "hey you fix your graphics card driver!" someone will notice your problem, then proceed to tell you once how to fix it. Then about 20 other people will tell you how to fix it the same way.

anyways, if anyone reads gamefaqs on the gal civ 2 side of things, this is overall just a much more hostile version of this:
http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=925349&topic=26728601

'cept shorter, and full of stardock defending and unwarrented insults/threats/hopes of dying fiery deaths.

As jpcarroll has pointed out, the game stopped crashing AFTER he updated drivers. Just do it, in the time you spent arguing that it was pointless you could've done it 10 times.

Then maybe it would also be easier to address some of your other.... issues.

I stand corrected, Hereticked. You posted two valid issues at the beginning of the thread. And I assume you have others that you were too bothered to post.

However, your comment that the game is likely to be unplayable for months strikes me as quite an exaggeration. I've had fun playing for numerous hours already. What games have you recently played that (after installing per the documentation) have been less buggy? In my many years of gaming, this is one of the most solid initial releases I've ever purchased.

I understand your frustration if the bugs you've come across have completely ruined your experience, but why not help a developer (Stardock) that actually monitors the forums and quickly responds to issues? The fact that you bought the game means you must have some interest in what it offers. Take advantage of your direct line to the developer and enumerate your problems. You'll likely have an answer (and potential fix) for those issues very quickly.

If you're unwilling to help, I'll make you a deal: I'll buy your copy of the game off you. You put it up on eBay, and I'll bid what you paid plus shipping and, say, 5 bucks for your trouble. And, assuming somebody doesn't outbid me, you can ship me the game and be rid of the nightmare that is GalCiv2 forever.

Sorry I tried... I really did... to look the other way and ignore this all. But alas that lil gremlin I know as "hating-stupid-people" has surpassed my will this time.

This game is fairly solid. I have spent countless hours, yes countless, in the past week I have had it, playing free of crashing, or butt-load-o-bugs. I have noticed 1 bug though. Assuming it is a bug and not just poor design. When editing ships, some of the hardpoints are off, mainly on the smaller ships. Like say theres a hardpoint on both sides of the ship that you can use for wings? Well, one side puts the wing out streight, and the other side, puts the wing through the hull of ths ship.... even though they are suposed to be supporting hardpoints. Thats my only bug report to have so far. And im sorry, it is the players responsibility to report bugs. If you want them fixed of course.

When building a program it could easily run perfectly on your computer, and then have bugs on another computer, simply because of many things, for example, diff OS, format, and simply just Murphy's Law (if it can go wrong, it will). So if you refuse to post more then just a couple bug reports, and calim there to be a swiis cheese game, then dont bother posing to begin with please. It will save us all the time an agravation of having to deal with people willing to complain, but not to the work.

Valuable Wisdom.... If you expect everything in life to come to your hands in perfect condition, expect to live a long and frustratingly pointless life.

Ok im done im stepping down from the soap box now , the grimlin has been satisfied.

Well I'll put it someplace else as well but one of the gameplay bugs hereticked mentions is absolutly correct. Thousands in tax for 0 starbases in enemy territory and about 20 in my territory that didn't belong to me. That law is broken, so is the law that allows a race to have a newly habitable world due to volcanic activity. Nothing happens. There are still dozens of other gameplay bugs as well. The fleeting of ships where it will refuse to fleet one or make a fleet of one ship is still there with the latest update. I have way less crashes though and it seems the massive memory leak is gone after one full gigantic game so great work there. Also it would be nice if the AI would stop doing specific retarded behaviors like I often experience the torians rushing around with full transports in fleets completely unescorted (on tough) while the other races have tactics such as using escorts or positioning fleets around the world they plan to take. The iconian/torian strategy seems to be let us make them sorry they are at war with us by having them commit wholehanded genocide until they beg for peace. Another gameplay bug has to do with information warfare. I lose the fight and all the information warfare people (who died!) are added to the still living population. Is this some sort of necromancy? I still see several others as well and get perturbed by the seemingly random choices the aI makes in the invasion tactics department. Perhaps they could choose like a human would. Not just mass driver the crap out of a planet when they would likely win anyways etc. There are many AI tactic issues that need clearing up as well. On bright setting the AI will give you there resource starbases calling them "our finest starships" to help you in a fight, and will also give you ships to the point they feel they need to capitulate and toss the planets to so random alien race. Surrender really sort of sucks, resist to the bitter end like a human! Its like playing online RTS games and the 14 year olds all quit to save thier ratings. Minor races have the nads to stick to it! I would like to see that gameplay element removed entirely or PLEASE give a check button to shut it off (also tech trading, that would add an element to the game for sure!)

So so far we have confirmation that one of the dozens of United Planets laws doesn't work as designed.

No game is perfect and now that we know about that we'll definitely see to it that it's fixed. But let me put it this way - that Untied Planets law in question was in GalCiv I. It's left-over code.  So apparently it wasn't so obnoxious of a problem that people were bringing it up in GalCiv I.

That doesn't excuse anything but it means an awful lot of people didn't notice it and I don't think (personally) it fills the criteria of the game being "full of bugs".

The problem with people having such a low threshold on what is "buggy" is that it creates the boy who cried wolf situation where truly serious problems tend to not get scrutinized.

Or worse, that games end up coming out that really are very buggy but no one takes those who post about it seriously because there have been too many times in the past where a game has come out that has a few minor (And indeed needing to be fixed) glitches has been accused of the same thing.

Or put another way, if GalCiv II is "full of bugs", then what strategyg ame that's come out in the past 5 years hasn't been "full of bugs"? Or what game at all for that matter.

I'm closing this thread since we're nearing 60 responses and all this post boils down to is:

"This game crashes on me because I haven't updated my video drivers on my 6 year old video card and it's also really buggy because I ran into a United Planets event that doesn't work as documented."
