This Is Ridiculous

This Is Ridiculous

I'd be playing Galactic Civilizations 2 right now instead of posting this if the game didn't crash every 15 minutes and have bugs coming out its *ss. This is one of many reasons why PC gaming is on its death bed. If this is what passes for "quality" and "customer oriented" then it's no wonder PC games makes up a measly 15% of the gaming market now.

Next time, finish your game before shipping it to retail (or releasing it on the web for that matter.) And no, don't ask me to be patient and to wait for patches or to be helpful and post bug reports on your website. We are not your beta testers. We pay money for what is supposed to be your FINISHED PRODUCT, not so we can wait around for it to be finished or help you finish it.

Does nobody read? I already said that updating my video driver will probably solve all or most of the crashing, I know this.

But why do I care about the game crashing when the game doesn't play properly to begin with? If the game is full of bugs, solving the crash issue doesn't improve my Galactic Civ 2 experience. The game is still heavily flawed, im simply not being INTERRUPTED while playing the heavily flawed game.

Thank you for playing the peace maker SpearThrower, but the point of this thread has been lost on almost everyone who read it.

I'm done wasting time here, I'll play the game again once its had 2 or 3 more patches.

So, let me get this straight:

1. "the game crashes every 15 minutes. It sucks. it sucks!"
- Update your video driver. It'll fix the problem - and this fix has been stated numerous times in the documentation and the forums.

2. "Well I dont really care about that problem anyhow. The real problem is all the bugs"
- That does sound like a problem. What are the bugs you're having? We'll resolve them if possible.

3. "I don't have time to tell you the bugs, you need to figure that out yourself."
- But of the tens of thousands of other users, nobody is finding these a**load of bugs.

4. "Just play a big game and you'll find them. I'm too busy answering forum replies to my inane post to add helpful info."
- Sounds like we have an I-D-ten-T problem.

5. "You're all just fanboys."
- Ooh, good come back!

Seriously, dude, throw us a bone. Name just _two_ of the a**load of bugs you've encountered. Once they're known, that's two fewer in the system. (If they're really there)

Ok, then perhaps you need to make a new thread on your other issues or join other threads that talk about the bugs you encountered. Do something proactive and constructive so that your efforts can help not only yourself but others that may be experiencing the same issue.

I find it interesting that we have here yet another user that spits in the face of those that would try to help him or her. Some people apparently do not get the idea that forums are a vehicle to help people get together and talk out solutions to issues, not just a place to come and whine for attention.

He did list two gameplay bugs. Granted, the detail is sparse, but the 2nd bug mentioned should be simple to verify.

I've got a 700% production planet I can't build a star port anymore making it effectively useless. I have a Galactic Law that works the exact opposite way it supposed to, taxing me thousands of BC for enemies sticking their starbases in my terrirtory, instead of taxing them and basically ruining my entire economy in the process.

*cough.*

My first game was on large. My second game was on gigantic. Yup. The game's rock solid!

oh yes, about geforce 4's and ti's...

Wikpedia Quote:
"If the capabilities of the GeForce 4 family are defined by the GeForce 4 Ti, then the GeForce 4 MX (NV17) is a GeForce 4 in name only. Many criticized the GeForce MX name as a misleading marketing ploy since it was less advanced than the preceding GeForce 3. On its release, disappointed enthusiasts described the GeForce 4 MX as a GeForce 2 MX with a better (128-bit DDR) memory controller."

Am I feeding a troll?

(response to Scrotty)

Nope, no bones. Not for you or Stardock. I will however respond to your lame screed before I leave.

1. The game does suck right now, but not because of the crashing.

2. Yes, the real problem is the gameplay bugs. I've said it about 10 times now, and I've also said its not my responsibility to report them. Get it through your thick skull.

3. Wrong. Many people ARE finding the bugs and many of them are being reported. I guess they have a lot of free time. I don't, and I merely came here to express my frustration and to bring up an issue thats critical if PC gaming is going to stop circling the toilet bowl. For this, I am being accosted by asshats like you who defend Stardock rather than acknowledge the actual PROBLEM which is releasing an incomplete game.

4. Yes I have been busy answering forum replies..... but that ends now since its not accomplishing anything.

5. Anyone defending Stardock without acknowledging the central issue at hand IS a fanboy, and I hope you die in a fire.

Adios.

Geforce 4000MX? You're lucky its bloody working at all. Heck, the 4440MX was just a slightly faster Geforce 2 with cheaper ram. The 4440mx didn't even have pixel shaders or vertex shaders that were compatible with anything newer than HL1. Ontop of that, all budget end geforce 4 series cards are only DX7 compatible, short of DX9 by two versions. That means that your PC has to emulate DX9, as in software mode. Simply put, Geforce 4 budget cards, like your 4000MX are slightly updated, not upgraded, Geforce 2 series cards.

Out dated drivers will just compound your problems.

Before this gets locked, I want to add that Citizen Hereticked is also free to get on the Stardock IRC channel and talk with developers and fellow gamers about his or her issue. He or she may get a more immediate response and may be asked questions that may help him or her make this post more constructive in its exploration of the problems he or she has encountered.

But of course Citizen Hereticked is also free to sit and stew in his or her unhappiness. It is up to Citizen Hereticked, of course.

Another satisfied customer.......

Seriously though for anyone reading.

If you have bugs - report them to help develop the game. So a game is released not 100% perfect...... wow, that sounds like the last 20 years of my gaming life. If you have time to complain, you have time to post details and you have time to do it in a polite fashion.

For the satisfied people here. I know it's a real challenge with the day by day torrent of abuse from some idiots, but can people try to be a little more helpful and a lot less agressive right off the bat?

Taliesinangelus, is there an option where Citizen Hereticked learns not to fight forum battles with a rusty spoon of poorly worded, misdirected anger?

I feel your pain.
We've all had to update video, sound, modem drivers and even do XP reinstalls because of video games. It sucks, and you wanna put your fist through a wall. But you gotta do it, if you want it all to work.

Maybe PC gaming IS dying a slow death. I hope not. I still would rather game on my pc than on my x360.

>5. Anyone defending Stardock without acknowledging the central issue at hand IS a fanboy, and I hope you die in a fire.

I hope I'm not the only one reading this who thinks that's a *little* harsh. On the one hand he does have a point, he's not required to submit bug reports. On the other hand if you're actually enjoying the game, bugs aside, it's not a lot effort help make it better.

Doubtless this post will doom me to fiery torment..

Cheers.

Not that is my position to say but the majority of computer games don't crash. They are made for the newest computers and thus you are burdened with the crashes because you have a older computer. This is no reason to get mad just update it. I too went through the same problem but I got a new computer. These people work hard to make you happy and play the game and you get all pissy.(Citizen Hereticked). Oh and by the way what the heck is your problem?

Have you noticed that Hereticked has still not -- in eleven(!) posts to this thread -- mentioned a single bug?

I think what really happened was that he was (understandably) pissed off that the game kept crashing and vented on this forum in a typical, hyperbole-filled manner. When it was pointed out that this fix was simple and documented, he became ashamed. There really were no a**load of bugs, just the one.

If I'm wrong, post one. One!

(Hereticked is now poring though the forum for legitimate bug reports that he can claim as his own. By the way, buddy, make sure the one you pick isn't one that's already been fixed.)

I know there are bugs in this game. I grab every patch that comes out. But to say it won't be playable for months because it's riddled full of problems is nonsense.

He actually was correct about one thing. The UP issue with the starbase tax does add to your expenses instead of your income.
I was wondering why he kept saying that everyone was avoiding the issue at hand, that the gameplay is buggy, and yet he never made a single point or reference to these terrible, doomsday bugs he has been suffering.

You want a bug?

Try Rome Total War v1.0 Retail only letting 30 people into the online entrance lobby at once, and crashing instantly when 30 people were in.

If you're going to rant, do it right. Quit whining about bugs without naming a single one, update your drivers and stop talking mush. If you're fed up with the replies you're getting, stop posting. The replies aren't going to change because you seem to have failed to make a single valid point in any of your threads. Remember, arguments have POINTS.

Damn, I really was hoping that was my last post, but since Scrotty, Shadow-Scythe and IAmGory just screwed up so bad I had to expose them for the morons they are.

Post #4, my second post, I listed two bugs, two major ones that ruined my last game.

"Stevious" pointed out you were wrong about me not listing any bugs in Post #30, which apparently you didn't read either.

Try reading the thread next time ACE.

I noticed that you had posted the UP bug after I made my previous post. Since I'm getting long server errors when I try to edit said post, just imagine that I acknowledged your 1 bug, and one possible bug that could just be put down as poor planning.

I'd Have to agree that the game aint perfect, when i first got it ,it was crashing every 15mins, but after updating my drivers this went away, but now I'm faced with the problem of annoying lines flickering on screen almost all the time. It really starting to bug me.

Also the update/registration process is utter sh*t. I dont have access to internet on my computer with gal civ2 and when i did the register by email, the sig file didnt work. Im really annoyed. Ive only managed about 2hours of enjoyable gameplay so far. Part from this the game looks, feels, and plays great.
