Team Up!

This is not the first idea of a Startrek-Mod mentioned, I know.
What I want to do is to search people who are interested in joining a "Startrek-mod Team"
I asked several people before and some asked around, so I thought for a faster Team Up, everyone who wants to join can do this by replying here and give a valid e-mail adress. It don't need to be a professional modder , we start amateur.
All you need is blender which you get from www.blender.org (later maybe 3ds max) and a littlebit time.
I hope we will be numerous...

Hey guys, this is an excellent project! I've been thinking of a Star Trek UI mod, since I have experience with DesktopX, and I wouldnt mind being part of this project. I also have server space available if we want to have a central download place from which we can share designs and ideas. Would this be of use?

I encountered the same problem. Was trying to add a self illumination map/texture for the Sharlin Cruiser (so youd see lights of the windows glowing if its totally dark), but the X-Exporter ignores that it seems.

I myself didnt investigate this any futher because the ships I work on right now (Minbari ones) dont have "glowing" or visible engines anyway.

My approach would be to take another look at the "Sample Ship Model and Textures by mormegil" and check the name and properties of the engines. maybe there is some information hidden there that tells GC2 to add engine glows there ingame (could be as simple as the name, but could also be a different way to set up the maps).

If that doesnt work Id look into the XML if there is a property that tells the game there that those engines need to get a glow.

if that doesnt work either Id wait until the moding guide from Stardock is finally released.

@ coplann: Well, I don' t know if you are still interested and working on the "glowing engines"-problem.
As it seems that you know more about using 3dprograms I think you will find the solution fastern then me.

Would be great if there is a kind of PM-system in this forum. If not, post it here.

Nothing against Stadock, but technical it's the worsed forum I know.

Blender keeps giving me this error, when i start it up

It's maxbe not my business, but why would you like to opne a xml-file with blender?

xml-files can be opened simple with the "Notepad" of windows, or any other "Editor"

If you ment "X-files" (it's directX-format) then you need a plugin to import them. Pretty every 3d program needs that to import or export x-files.

Guys, please don't take me wrong, but i'm going nuts out here waiting to have a nice star trek ship in my game!

Are you ever going to release something? You dont need to make modular components or have every little ship that ever showed up on a star trek show, just release 3-4 ships for now for us folks with no moddig skills to play with!

a galaxy classs, an akira class, an intreprid class and maybe one of the cooler shuttles would more than suffise for most people (me included) !

i took the disruptor effect file, took the pic Laseranddisruptor.png into Ms pictureit 7 and modulate it in colour

so simple, but you must change the Gc2types file to link these new effect to a weapon you want...
I tried making the torpedoes faster but didn't succeed, if somebody knows what i must change to make them faster, this would be very helpful ;o) (I'm despairing)

ah cool.

if you manage to get them torps faster tell us how please. Imo both missile weapons and massdrivers should be much faster in combat.

yes, much faster, i fell asleep when my Torpedo warbird shoots all 12 Torpedoes to the enemybase...

thx, as you are a nice person i may tell you that this is very easy: take the massdriver animation and change the png file in look, then change the sound (wav) file and enjoy...

If yah all are actually serious about this i would suggest you set up at the very least a private forum, IRC channel also woudnt hurt.
And make sure that the team members you take on are actually interested in finishing the mod. Not like these things just take a week or two will be busy for a while especially considering how many races you gotta change, new random maps with planet names etc etc.

Hey guys, don't know if you're still looking for team members, but I would be interested.

I don't really know how to do 3D modelling, but I can make most any kind of change in the tech tree and data files, and I am a whiz at creating scenarios (I am very professional when it comes to that sort of thing - I wrote some of the briefings and scenarios for the game Dangerous Waters, as a beta tester.)

I can also provide a wealth of website hosting options. My current hosting package allows for me another free domain name and I have 20 GB of storage space and 1000 GB (1 TB) of monthly transfer volume. I also have the ability to have up to 2,000 different email addresses with a domain name... so if we picked stgc2.com, we could have 2,000 email addresses with [email protected].

I also own a website design company, and am pretty good at website design if I do say so myself
