Gameplay Bug/oversight

Gameplay Bug/oversight

I'm posting this here since I really hope a dev will take notice of a serious middle/late-game gameplay affecting issue that shouldn't be there in the first place. This has probably been mentioned before, but not given enough prominence.

If you aquire new planets that are empty, and you are technologically advanced, the planets are Useless! This is especially annoying on the higher difficulty levels where the AI tends to scorch the earth before I invade and conquer their planets and leave them empty.

The structures, no matter which one, you can build on those planets are so insanely expensive you either need a MASSIVE sum of cash (>100K) or eternal patience (>50 turns for a just a single structure).

There are 2 relatively straightforward and easy-to-implement solutions.

- Always start with the lowest level building, which can then upgrade
- Add a slider to select the level of the building you intend to place

I hope this will be fixed in a patch, though I realise it will be after several weeks, even months. But I don;t really care as long as this problem is addressed... So, please take notice

I hate to say this but most of the main tech in an F-16 was designed in the seventies. And a factory from teh 40's could build all the parts but the electronics.

I see you like to nitpick

But there is no way they could've made a modern day F-16 in the 70s. An F-16 today is pretty much a different breed then from what it started out as.

Conquered colonies in this game don't even seem to act as conquered worlds but happily live under your rule

Planetary invasions assume you kill everyone or assimilate rebels in your society.

I'm pretty sure that the level of morale that was there beforehand stays there as well, So dont expect your *ahem* settlers to be happy on a C6 planet.

well yeah.. we kinda just hunt and kill every single citizen of the conquered world and then somehow make 200 million citizens a week even if we only have 1 million soldiers left XD

Anyhow.. I would think being able to build an earlier version of planetary improvements make sense. Due to time and budget issue, the newest might not be the best choice. While people would use central heating system over fireplaces here.. there are those people that do not get the benefit of a central heating system and have to resort to burning wood instead (such as undeveloped region.) A new colony in a mid to late game would be similar to a undeveloped region. It would make sense to build rudimentary structures for the time being and upgrade it later.

Yes, you could say that this is part of the strategy to have to build the latest structure. For me, I would try to plan out what I want to build for a planet and queue up the basic version. I might even refrain myself from getting the improvement upgrade technology so I wouldn't have to deal with the upgrades just yet.

By allowing the choice of building the basic structure, it gives the player more options. More options could also imply more strategy choices. If you have the money for the newest factory, dump it in. If you don't, start with a basic factory.

And this might be min/maxing.. but I would purchase the newest factory and then let the factory build basic farm, then entertainment network. The population won't grow that fast anyway, no point in buliding the most advanced farm. It would only cost more upkeep and time when I could be building some market to give the economy a boost.

In real life, you wouldn't produce excessive products unless there is a need. Since the food production can't be given to another planet, it would be wasteful.

Okay, that's my 2 cents that ended up waaaay too long. I just think the option and choice wouldn't hurt.
