Cardassian, you might want to delete the scores already submitted before posting the next game to the MV. These "cheated" games will only drag down your total score.

Good advice and I'me acting on it!
Any more problems and you're sure to know - YAWN YAWN

Thanks Kryo- have now updated so hopefully my next HOPELESS score will at least count for something!
Speak to you all soon - Do I hear groans already?

We have no requirements for membership other than you enjoy the game and play for fun!!! Many of us here are old vets of GCI and many of us dominated the MV there. We know about burnout and don't want to see anyone suffer from it this go around. For a much more active chat area, visit us at the The Galactic Core.

Welcome Cardassian!

Good morning Diplos. Hope you are all looking forward to the weekend. Be sure and hide the Honey-Do jar where it can't be found.

Fortunately my honey is in Texas this week. Just me and the kids. I posted details of the latest victory at The Core for any lurkers browsing for game play ideas.

Good morning Diplos. Hope you are all looking forward to the weekend. Be sure and hide the Honey-Do jar where it can't be found.

On this note, my mother is coming for the weekend, but I got the schedule messed up and had told my wife that she wasn't coming until mid-october. I discovered my error last Sunday night when I last spoke with my mom.

All you married folks will understand the kind of response that I got when I told my wife that my mother would be comming in 6 days instead of 3 weeks. Boy was she pissed, but she's over it by now. Anyway, if it wasn't for my mom's yearly visits, I don't think the house would ever get cleaned.

You better hope she doesnt decide to read this thread or boy are you in for it!!

Not really as I had to do most of the work getting the house ready for inspection.

Also, she has a good sense of humor plus I'm not the kind of guy that deludes himself into believing that he's the boss. We've been watching a 6 dvd set of 40 episode's of Rumpole of the Bailey that she took out of the library, quite funny stuff. SWMBO if you get the reference.

Well, I installed Firefox and still can't get into the Core.

DG or DaMoose, can you check to see if my url is being blocked at the Core. You should have my IP address there. I cannot get any of my computers thru Cox Cable netowrk to the Core. So, it is not my machine. I have checked the router and it is not blocking anything on outgoing. Maybe one of the spammers is using Cox and you banned all cox calbe users.
There don't appear to be any bans in place that would hit you. Can you not even access the main entry page at http://www.thegalacticcore.com? If you can't even get there, that wouls suggest some sort of connectivity problem. You can also try opening a DOS prompt and running PING THEGALACTICCORE.COM and TRACERT THEGALACTICCORE.COM and see if those get through.
I cant see any reason why you cant get access. Have to wait for Moosey to take a look in the morning for you. Sorry Weyr!

When I ping the Core it get no response all packets lost. But I can access from work which is through XO instead of Cox. On Traceert the last site it gives is 208.44.82.27 After that is all time outs.
Reverse DNS lookup cannot resolve 208.44.82.27 or the previous IP address. The last address resolved is from BellSouth.
Tracert says that the Core is over 30 hops from my starting point
Reply #769 Top
I get the same results myself oddly enough, but the site still works for me. Hmmm...

Did a lookup on the dead IP, it's owned by Qwest.

The Core IP address that I get is 72.41.96.77
When I run that thru the DNS reverse lookup I get the following:

72.41.96.77 resolves to
"rev.opentransfer.com.77.96.41.72.in-addr.arpa"
Top Level Domain: "in-addr.arpa"

Which does not seem right to me. I wonder if there is a DNS name corruption in the net that is screwing things up.

DG, could you ask your hosting company or perhaps you can tell me, what is the IP address of the core? Ask them to resubmit you domain to be repropogated throughout the domain name servers.
That is the right IP. I assume you can't get at the site by going directly to that IP in your browser either?
No, the browser times out, both IE and Firefox.

The reason I think there is a screwup in the DNS routing tables is that the registrant for the top domain name is IANA, and I doubt that they are hosting the site the Core is using.

IANA Whois Service
Domain: in-addr.arpa
ID: in-addr-arpa

Registrant:
Name: Inverse IPv4 Domain
Organization: Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA)

Address2: Suite 330
Address3:

When I do a domain lookup on www.thegalacticcore.com I get the domain servers as
Domain servers in listed order:
NS3.IXWEBHOSTING.COM 72.41.4.11
NS4.IXWEBHOSTING.COM 72.41.5.11

Location: United States [City: Hopkinsville, Kentucky]

Preparation:
The reverse DNS entry for an IP is found by reversing the IP, adding it to "in-addr.arpa", and looking up the PTR record.
So, the reverse DNS entry for 72.41.98.77 is found by looking up the PTR record for
77.98.41.72.in-addr.arpa.
All DNS requests start by asking the root servers, and they let us know what to do next.
See How Reverse DNS Lookups Work for more information.

How I am searching:
Asking h.root-servers.net for 77.98.41.72.in-addr.arpa PTR record:
h.root-servers.net says to go to dill.arin.net. (zone: 72.in-addr.arpa.)
Asking dill.arin.net. for 77.98.41.72.in-addr.arpa PTR record:
dill.arin.net [192.35.51.32] says to go to NS2.OPENTRANSFER.COM. (zone: 41.72.in-addr.arpa.)
Asking NS2.OPENTRANSFER.COM. for 77.98.41.72.in-addr.arpa PTR record: Reports rev.opentransfer.com.77.98.41.72.in-addr.arpa. [from 69.49.227.3]

Answer:
72.41.98.77 PTR record: rev.opentransfer.com.77.98.41.72.in-addr.arpa. [TTL 86400s] [A=None] *ERROR* There is no A record for rev.opentransfer.com.77.98.41.72.in-addr.arpa. (may be negatively cached).

Details:
You have one or more obviously bogus PTR records (pointing to in-addr.arpa).
