Galactic Civilizations II will be digitally released late afternoon EST to users who have pre-ordered it.

It should also start showing up in retail today (though actual availability will depend on a store by store basis, by end of week it should be in most retail outlets hopefully).

If you're looking to pass the time, check out the forum stickies as we talk about what to expect and look for when you download this.

Most of Stardock's people will be hanging out here all day to help people since initial orders aren't the 2.5X of GalCiv I we had expected but more like 10X GalCiv I (thankfully, most of the game is mirrored across the world, we've had reports of download speeds on the multimedia of >1 Mebabyte per second).

You can also create your Metaverse characters if you'd like with the serial #s.  If you run into any issues or just have a question, feel free to stop by #galciv on irc.stardock.com. We'll be there.

A demo is coming, estimated for mid-march. Why no demo yet? Because its not ready.

wait im confused do you mean that the only way to get galciv2 if you preordered it, is to download it from stardock. Won't it come in the mail strait to my house. can you please get back to me as soon as possible thankyou

Depends on who you preordered it from and what version you preordered. If you preordered it from any other company (amazon, ebgames, etc), you will get the box.
If you preorderd from stardock, if you paid the extra few bucks for shipping you get box AND pre order download. If you paid exactly $45, then you only get pre order download since thats what you ordered.

Note that all versions (including boxed) can get normal download once you enter in serial into stardock.

I ordered the boxed version from Stardock and it was only $44.95. In the email it stated I would have the game shipped to me shortly, so I hope I wasn't supposed to pay anything extra. I didn't see an option to.

Check your email receipt from stardock after you ordered. This is what mine says and yours should say the same.

K love the game and all but im having problems when i make my own ship designs sometimes when i click to save the design it crashes me anyone else having this problem?
