Galactic Civilizations II will be digitally released late afternoon EST to users who have pre-ordered it.

It should also start showing up in retail today (though actual availability will depend on a store by store basis, by end of week it should be in most retail outlets hopefully).

If you're looking to pass the time, check out the forum stickies as we talk about what to expect and look for when you download this.

Most of Stardock's people will be hanging out here all day to help people since initial orders aren't the 2.5X of GalCiv I we had expected but more like 10X GalCiv I (thankfully, most of the game is mirrored across the world, we've had reports of download speeds on the multimedia of >1 Mebabyte per second).

You can also create your Metaverse characters if you'd like with the serial #s.  If you run into any issues or just have a question, feel free to stop by #galciv on irc.stardock.com. We'll be there.

Woohoo! When I get home from night shift this game is mine! Now the question is will I be able to stop myself from playing all day when I should be sleeping!

Yep, yep, yep! Today's the day! Luckily I'm stuck at work for the next six hours. After that it's volleyballpractice. But right after that I should be home just in time to start downloading the last few files.

I'd better have some espresso ready to get me through the night. And I'll be sending out warnings to my colleagues that I might be a bit bad tempered tomorrowmorning after arriving at work without any sleep and after having taken some serious beating allnight by the AI.

A short question to StarDock: When will the CD preorders ship? I ordered directly from you, got the temporary serial and preloaded the game so I'm in no hurry.

Just curious on when to expect a nice box to add to my game shelf...

I think the target time still is 3pm EST, which is 2100 CET (UTC+1).

Congrats Stardock! I hope you end up with at least that much in retail sales as well. I really hope thats all through SDC and the retailer numbers haven't arrived yet.

I can't wait. Well...I guess I can because I have to. I won't get home from work until 4:15 or so anyway, so even if it was available now I couldn't play. I'm so pumped for this game I cancelled my EB preorder and just preordered the CD from Stardock so I could play the game right away today.

Awesome on the pre-orders. Maybe you'll get lucky and hit a top 10 sales list somewhere and then the sky's the limit after that cause the hard core gamers will see it and scratch their head "what is this Galactic Civilizations thing?" and then check it out.

My wife already knows I'm unavailable for the evening (other then to watch USA vs. Russia hocky). Whoohooooo!!!!!!

Kewl, the game will be out ~ around 10 PM here in israel. Luckily for me I'm finishing playing basketball at that time, so after that i'll go home to the wife, cats and GALACTIC CIVILIZATIONS 2!!!

12:00 is a happy time , 12:15 is not.

that was the story of the misinformed releace. it was either moved back a bit, or you dident bother (or rember) to tell us about the snag.

So, can you please give us the time you expect it to be out, one has assumed " late afternoon EST" = 3pm EST (+15h). I am not certin of this 'assumtion'.

Please have pity upon us and confirm the "new" time.

Warms my heart to know that you exceeded your expectations on preorders. I personally hold Stardock as a shining star in terms of software developers - game and app. Kudos to the release date today. I very much hope post release sales exceed another tenfold of forcasted shippage so we get windowsblinds 6 that much faster

At least we all can wait together...sort of. I love pre-release board hype. It really is the best time to hang around message boards. Everyone is all jazzed like it's Christmas morning and we're waiting for our parents to wake up so we can open our presents.

If, of course, the game ISN'T on the shelves today... then by all means disregard this ridiculous question... if not... umm... why did I pre-order?

That's only a question you can answer. However my experience is if a game is out on Tuesday then most stores won't have it on the shelves until Wednesday or Thursday. Some game shops like GameSpot or EB might have it out Tuesday afternoon. It all depends on when UPS shipment comes in. I pre-ordered Civ 4 from GameSpot and then got their shipment in Tuesday around 4pm that week so I was able to get my copy after work (collectors edition as well). And the reason why you pre-order is to guarantee yourself a copy. If I hadn't preorded I wouldn't have gotten Civ 4 that day since they were sold out from preorders, none to go on the shelves. I would have had to wait a couple days to pick it up elsewhere.

Well, i would have been really thankful if Stardock would give the "downloaders" a little advantage (maybe one day). They said it already...they will get more money from the pre order downloads (nearly all of the 40$) than from the retail versions (only around half of the 40$) so its good for them and good for us to pre order and download the game. At the moment there is no real advantage and nor reason why you should download it. In fact, i dont really understand, why we still have to wait for the download...the game is finished, its paid and now we are just waiting and killing time.... im feeling a little but frustrated about this and i dont like this feeling

There is no reason to let us wait, isnt it? If so...well, i cant see it.

Someone have to pay fo this...i think it will be the Drengin Empire

I promised myself that I would abstain from posting on the fourms, especially after my girlfriend heckled me all night about waiting for this game. She's gone now, and WoW servers are down for maintence, so here I am.

RELEASE IT!!!!

Sorry, I had to get that out of my system. Mick, I agree. The Drengin Empire will recieve the brunt of my fustration when I can finally play. Two hours until class, and with my luck it will be released just as I leave the house. Good luck to all of you waiting on pins and needles (as I am). They can't wait forever...

Wouldn't want to tick off your retail partners, Mick. I'll bet the distribution agreement specifies that advance copies of the game can only go to reviewers and such.

I'd imagine there's some fussing to take place over the cancelled pre-orders already. Apparently I'm not the only one who cancelled their EB.com order so that I could download today.

Be patient. 3 PM EST is only 4.5 hours away. Take a nap or something, you'll need all your energy for the 12 hour gaming marathon to come.

This feels like Christmas when I was a kid. Laying in bed wide awake at 4 AM wishing that morning would hurry up already. I bet you guys at Stardock ar enjoying this. I have to admit I would be. Probably the only reason for the wait.

I can corroborate (sp?) the download rumors. I brought the game down at between 500 and 600 Kbps and the the other pieces came in between 900 and 1000 Kbps! I was stoked. Excellent work Stardock/WinCustomize/TotalGaming. Kudos to all who have worked so hard towards this and I hope you get a well deserved rest, but knowing you folks.. You'll be working twice as hard post-release to make sure everything works right. Ah well, I guess that is why I keep buying your products. Do go get some well deserved R&R!

Ok, so our little town here, just got a brand new super walmart a couple weeks ago, can I expect it to have the game on shelves today? Im hoping that I can go around 3 and pick it up (I'm actually home sick from school today) but if its not at walmart, I'll have to drive 30 mintues to the closest EB. and I'll have to work it out somehow because I'm not waiting till tommorrow or later to get this game, I've been reading everything and I'm about ready to explode.
