STICKY: Metaverse Help!

STICKY: Metaverse Help!

Let us know what we can do to help you here!

Your Stardock.net account is used here by the forums, in Stardock Central, on other Stardock sites, and also to manage your Metaverse characters.  "One account to rule them all."

Your account can have up to THREE characters tied to it.  Most people will have only 1 but this way, if you have multiple people in your family playing the game (my son plays for instance) they can use a character.

If you've already pre-loaded, you should be able to go to the Metaverse and Manager Characters.  You will need your serial # to create another character.

If you have any problems, let us know.

Pardon my ignorance here, but I've got a saved game, and I'd like to upload the score to the Metaverse, but I can't seem to find out what to click where to upload it. Thanks!

Ok, I'll take these one at a time

gbuchold, dajaxx, Noxin -
1) Creating an empire doesnt mean joining an empire. Go to that empire's page and click the join button, and select which player you would like to join the empire you created.
2) The metaverse only knows what the game tells it. If you have erroneous cheat games being reported, please post in a seperate thread in the appropriate forum for the game development team to see.

Warren Steffen - Please email me the serial number, along with a copy of the post you made here (so i know what its about) and I can investigate why your serial number isnt working. Please continue to try to submit games in the mean time.

Jeysie - I'll have a look into that, thanks for letting us know.

I ordered the CD version of GC2. I take it I probably should not use the temporary key e-mailed to me to create an empire, and instead wait for the CD to arrive in the mail.

Okay, I'll be good and post my Metaverse question here. What is the "Galactic Map" showing me? Are those different player-empires in some way in direct competition or is that just a representation of their relative score? Do the locations of their empires mean anything?

Thx.

You would have needed to start your game as a Metaverse game.  You do that by clicking on the Metaverse button in the game's main menu screen.  If your saved game wasn't started as a Metaverse game, there's no way to submit it to the Metaverse.  This is because Metaverse games use "standard" data, whereas normal, non-Metaverse games use data that is (potentially) moddable.  Allowing games played using modded data would defeat the purpose of the Metaverse, which is to allow players to compete with others on an equal footing.

The Metaverse Map is a representation of the Top 10 Empires.  Each shaded region represents an empire and the territory in space in which they have conquered.  The map is only generated once a day.

You should be fine in using your temporary serial number (keeps fingers crossed).

Did that. Logged in and everything. Played the whole game, it gave me my score, and all I could click was "Done" at the end. No score shows up attached to my name when I look it up in the metaverse here.

Is there some set of options, (difficulty, universe size, race, etc.) That have to be selected for a game to count in the metaverse? As near as I can tell, I did it right, but there's nothing uploaded to my account.

Same thing happened to me.
I didn't finish the game in one session - saved an reloaded the other day. Could this have messed things up?
When loading a Metaverse game, do I have to log in again?
Not quite sure if I did everything right, I'll keep a closer eye on it with my next game and will give you more detailed information in case it should happen again.

If someone who's experiencing this problem could send the (zipped) save game and a brief description of the problem to [email protected], that would help track down this problem.  Thanks.

I've had the same error as others but I am unclear on how to reslove it . The error is 13 - Your game submission was rejected because the application serial number does not match the serial number on the Metaverse server. Would you like to try posting you results again.

I had the same problem.

I got the game through TGN tokens, if that helps.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Looks like the game is trying to use your TotalGaming serial number.  Please update your Serial number with the GalCiv II serial number that you received.

Update on my situation: on a whim I decided to check what serial number SDC would tell me I have. It turned out not to match the number I was using, which was the number from the pre-download email. From comments on #galciv I gather I was supposed to recieve a different serial number via emai, but that never happened. Anyhow, I updated the game serial number via the startup menu to the one SDC's lookup returned, started a game, and that one, to my great surprise, submitted just fine! Too bad it was a loss

I tried that. I got Stardock to email me my serial numbers, then opened up the game launcher and pressed the 'Update serial' button and changed it from the blank serial number it had to the GalCivII one from my email.

The problem persists.

I don't know how to check what serial number the Metaverse is using for me though. I can't find anything like that in the account options.

Well now that Im in the right place. It seems to me that to be able to submit a score to the Metaverse you need to be able to put in your nickname and password for your Stardock.net account. It seems simple enough but, when I try and type my nickname in it won't accept periods. Since my nickname is M.B.M. if I cant put the periods in I cant log into submit the scores.

Stamforth, I don't know that this applies for sure, but, I found that the prior games I had started with a different serial number wouldn't submit even after updating the serial number of the game. Only games that I started AFTER the serial number was changed submit successfully. It would *appear* that any given game is flagged with the currently entered serial number *when it is started* and appears to be unchangeable to a game in progress. I have just had to give up on the idea of submitting my saved endgames

Perhaps try to start another game from the Metaverse button and then submit that. I hope that applies and helps you.

Thanks for the tip, Warren.

Didn't work for me though, unfortunately.

I even created a new character (Mister Retire Early) and retired on the first turn, but the same error came up.

Stamforth, I suspect the Launcher failed to  update your serial.  Do you have Stardock Central installed?  If so, start it up.  It should automatically fetch your serial number from our Db and update it.  Verify this by going into the registration dialog and checking the serial number that is registerd for GalCiv2.  If its blank please update your serial there and try again.

M.B.M. I believe the new update has a fix for that.  The update is not available via Stardock CEntral yet but you can get it from the download/registration page. https://www.galciv2.com/downloads.aspx

Thanks, T-Man.

Mister Retire Early worked now. I've created a new character to use for the Metaverse, and will start a new game now. Hopefully it will all be fine now.

Now, a new question. How do I delete players. I've got the first character I created (who may be using the wrong serial number) and Mister Retire Early sitting on my account. How do I make them disappear?

this is rediculous....... my charactor 'Imperator LiTh' has a score of "31538" yes i'm ranked 22nd between two 21000ish scores, I CANNOT create a NEW post in any forum except the top GalCiv2 forum...... i have firefox 1.5.0.1, allow cookies all that stuff... there has to be something wrong with the server and my account just for the sheer fact that i'm ranked 22nd with a 31538 score when i should be ranked 15th (as of the time of writing this) please let me know what the heck is going on...... i love this game, and really want to compete but this forum/metaverse seems like its against me....

thanks in advance

I'd like to know the answer to that too. I have my messed up character, creatively named Delete Me, who I'd like to ... well ... delete!

Another odd quirk I noticed... I've played three games on "Normal" difficulty, yet they're all showing up as "Challenging" difficulty. I'm not that good. (Between this and the Arcean mislabel thing, I think the poor Altarians are just cursed!)

Peace & Luv, Liz

I've been getting this strange error when trying to make a new character.

I just got my account activated today. Could this be why? I was able to make a test empire with no problems.

Ok, I'm still confused about what I should do after reading afll of the above. I played a game tired uploading it, but got the "application serial number did not match the Metaverse serial number". What do I need to do to upload this game. What is the correct serial number to use. Why is this so confusing?

I've been using the same serial number here for everything I've input and it's been accepted except for the Metaverse. This is very frustrating. Can someone help me? And please don't tell me that this game is lost and cannot be uploaded after I spent hours on it.

Thanks.
