STICKY: Metaverse Help!

STICKY: Metaverse Help!

Let us know what we can do to help you here!

Your Stardock.net account is used here by the forums, in Stardock Central, on other Stardock sites, and also to manage your Metaverse characters.  "One account to rule them all."

Your account can have up to THREE characters tied to it.  Most people will have only 1 but this way, if you have multiple people in your family playing the game (my son plays for instance) they can use a character.

If you've already pre-loaded, you should be able to go to the Metaverse and Manager Characters.  You will need your serial # to create another character.

If you have any problems, let us know.

2. When I view my empire statistics, it says: "Empire : Not in an Empire". But I created both an empire and a character, so what should I do to get that character into that empire? I tried inviting my character into the empire, but I saw nothing happen.

If your empire doesn't have a website URL associated with it, the game thinks the empire data isn't valid and therefore thinks you're not in an empire.  Your submitted games are being credited to your empire, though; it's purely a problem with the in-game display of empire information.  This is a bug that will be fixed in the next update.

Hm, is it possible to 'de-flag' my submitted game that was falsly flagged as 'cheat', or do I just have to live with it?

Unfortunately, there's no easy way to determine whether a particular game was flagged erroneously or not.  So you'll just have to live with it.  The good news is that the latest update should have fixed these problems.

Well, should have, but the game in question was played and submitted after the update (v1.0D-1) as you can see here:
http://metaverse.galciv2.com/index.aspx?g=player&id=333
So I guess there's still some bug lurking somewhere...

Now, a new question. How do I delete players. I've got the first character I created (who may be using the wrong serial number) and Mister Retire Early sitting on my account. How do I make them disappear?

I'd like to know the answer to that too. I have my messed up character, creatively named Delete Me, who I'd like to ... well ... delete!

Yes, someone please answer this. How do we delete a character?

The debug file gives this info on the error:

Debug Message: PostGameToServer: Post failed. RPC error code:

Heh, I should have been more specific: We need the lines that follow the RPC error code line.  Specifically, contents of the Data tag.

Aztiel Wrote: Hello - I'm having trouble sending my game to the metaverse - I'm getting an error message about the serial key so I guess I'm using the wrong one. But now I've gone crazy and somehow I think I've got three different serial keys, and three characters of which I'm not sure which ones have which keys. How do I get these to match, or what do I need to do to report a game?

All new games you submit should be fine, for any character.  The serial numbers you have are encoded, as they decode they all point to the same registration so everything is good!

I just got my account activated today. Could this be why? I was able to make a test empire with no problems.

Sorry for the delay, this should be fixed now.

Another odd quirk I noticed... I've played three games on "Normal" difficulty, yet they're all showing up as "Challenging" difficulty. I'm not that good.

Whats happening here is that certain in game conditions will alter the difficulty level (actually the race intelligence) which affects the end result difficulty level.  So even though you started out at Normal the race intelligence caused the difficultly level to rise to Challenging.

What we will be doing with the next update of GalCiv is changing the Difficultly level that is submitted to use the same index value that was used when you started the game to eliminate this confusion.

I can't log on to the Metaverse in game. It won't let me type my registered account name in, which is |nsomniac. The | is not allowed, apperently, once you are in the game. Is there anyway in which to change my name? Thanks.

I accidentally created my empire with the wrong serial number (1 digit off).

Will this prevent me from sending scores for the Metaverse?

I can't create a character on the Metaverse.

If I try in Firefox(which is updated to 1.0.7), it just says "Processing Data..." forever.

If I try in IE 6.0, When I click "Add Character", after typing in the character name and serail number, I get "Exception : Invalid column name 'SerialNum'.s, with "Processing Data..." in behind the message.

I'm also worried that I may have redundant Stardock Accounts, or the Serial number's between the Stardock account and Galciv2 don't reconcile, because one came off of the cd, and the other came with the preorder.

Insomniac - Special characters arent allowed in usernames any longer. Please send an email to andrew _at_ stardock.com so we can discuss changing this for you.

Snypir - It wont prevent you from doing so at the moment, no. But please email your empire information along with the correct serial number so we can change that to the correct one for you.

Heteroy - The first thing to do is to get Firefox updated with the latest version. You have to be using the latest version for the site to work correctly. The latest version is 1.5.0.1. I will investigate that error to see if it is something erroneous in the code. In the meantime please email me the serial number you are attempting to create a character with.

Heteroy - I did identify a bug in the website code along the lines of what you described. Please do give that another attempt.

The new patch coming out this week shouldn't impact a Metaverse game in progress, should it? Thanks.

I've been trying to make a metaverse character for an hour now, but it just hangs every time on "Processing Data"
The serial i use is copy pasted from the galciv2 "update serial" window, the avatar i'm using is 74x90, pretty sure i got a unique name (multiple words are allowed right?), using firefox 1.0.7. I fill it all in, click add character, and it hangs on processing data indefinitely.

Am i doing something wrong, or is it borked atm?
SanderJk, the problem is that Firefox is borked. If you upgrade to the newest version of Firefox that will fix the problem.

Im getting a (12) serial # does not match metaverse serial #. Also I log in the metaverse, but it will not let me create new characters. Just seems to refresh the page. I don't know how to fix the metaverse problem I updated my game using the ugrade button on the launch interface thing about 3 days ago using the serial on the case.

Getting a simular error in both Firefox 1.5.0.1 and IE7 when attempting to create a character for the first time.

Retrieving the com class factory for component with clsid {D96216AD-DB59-449A-A039-CF0027F135A6} failed due to the following error: 80040154.s

just tried to create my first character. Getting the exact same error as CXDamian2, I'm using IE, not really sure whats causing the problem. Maybe there is something wrong with the server at the moment?

Just have to wait and see what Stardock makes of it...
I'm also getting that error...looks like they're running out of space on the character server!
