STICKY: YOU have questions? WE will try to answer

Before you make that post..read here..

Using our vast psychic powers, we are going to attempt to preempt the most common questions we think people will have and put answers here so that the main forum can stick to flaming us for not having some feature or because the installer formatted their hard drive (a problem that we've found only happens on 1 out of 3 systems and only if you have an nVidia or ATI card -just kidding-).

#1 What's the difference between the Bonus Pack and the Collector's Edition?

The Bonus Pack everyone gets. It's a series of minor updates, tweaks, and new content that we came up with while we waited for the stores to get their copies.  If you download 1.0D then you have the Bonus Pack.  There will be a seperate thread that explains what's in the Bonus Pack.

The Collector's Edition is a special version of the game that has additional content and is only available to users who either pre-ordered the game, bought the Collector's Edition specifically (Walmart or Stardock directly) or got the game as part of the first manufacturing run.

The Collector's Edition retail box is silver and contains a poster with the entire tech tree on it.

The electronic content that will be a seperate download in the Downloads section contains the Galactic Civilizations II Desktop and additional Ship components.

#2 I'm in Europe and..

Our publisher partner, Paradox, makers of great games like Europa Universalis and Hearts of Iron is handling things over there.  It should be available at retail soon.  They are also working on native language versions throughout Europe but that's going to take some time.

If you're in Australia or New Zealand, Auran is taking care of things there and they will have it out shortly too.

#3 I'm a member of TotalGaming.net, can I get the CD version?

Yes.  If bought TotalGaming.net and used tokens to get the game, it's $5 plus shipping.  IF you got a free upgrade to the new TotalGaming.net (And if you don't know what that means then it probably doesn't apply to you) then getting the boxed version is $20 plus shipping.

#4 I want to download the game now! Do I still get a box?

If you select to get the retail unit when you purchased then yes. You get a temporary serial # and the box will be sent to you.

If you selected the download only option, you can later have a box sent to you for the cost of shipping.

Please copy and paste these items to [email protected] if you want to do any of these things so that they know precisely what you want to do.

#5 I want to go to the store and buy the game but does it have copy protection?

None whatsoever.  No CD check. No "Star Force". Nothing.  You don't even have to enter in the serial # when you install (because, let's face it, 5 years from now people are going to lose that thing anyway).

That said, we recommend putting in the serial # because it'll make it easier to get updates. Updates require the serial #.  Once you have updated using the serial #, our system will have your info for you so that 5 years when you've lost that serial # you can get it back automatically.

Ok I think I get this edition stuff ..... having pre-ordered the download version, the 'extras' that we should get for the collectors versions (ie more comps for ships) will be available to download on the website sometime after release ... correct?

I'm hoping so as well. Since I preordered with them. (I don't care about a tech map fold out.) My wanting is more jewelry. I want more ship bling! I'm just hoping that one of the dev's can finally answer this clearly as if we were five years old.

Yes customer, by preordering digitally through us, (irregardless of whether you ordered a box or not) we will treat your serial number as a collectors edition. (Like ALL the other boxes out there.) Thus your extra ship bits are located... (Insert Link).

(I'm getting flashbacks to Pulp FIction between Jules and Marcellus Wallace.)

Sheeeeeiiit Brad, that's all you had to say. *Grin*

yea same here, I had pre-ordered it as well and would like my ship bling. Problem is that link that frogboy provided doesn't help me because the email i used to order was different than that on my site account so it don't do me any good. Like the previous poster said, treat us like we're five years old and provide a direct link to the area where we can go, insert our game key and get our ship bling

Why is the game's autorun menu poping up when i turn my pc on? How do i prevent it from loading on startup?

I asked this question previously in another location, so I hope you can forgive me for asking it here: When I went to purchase GalCiv II via the DL system yesterday, I expected that I would receive an e-mail confirming this, and giving me a link I could click on when the release time arrived. I checked my e-mail account several minutes later, and no e-mail had been sent, though no problems had arrisen during the purchasing process; as of now, no e-mail has been sent either. Also, checking my on-line bank statement, no charge had been recorded there either. Should I wait a while longer, or try and purchase the game again?

I built two constructors to take advantage of two locations within my area. Both times, the image said no image available? Is this normal?

I would have won the game, except that I accidentally surrendered to the minor race I was trying to get to surrender to me. everyone else loved me, my economy was going gangbusters, and I had 13 star systems. Awesome game! Just wish it would double check with you before letting you completely surrender.

Quick Question
I've colonised another planet and when i go to build any building it tells me Time to Build: Never even though i have 9000 people on the planet. What is the usual cause for not being able to build any buildings and what is the resolution?
Thanks

Means you don't have enough resources dedicated to social building.

Anthony, you should have received a receipt in your browser, the exact same information that would have been sent in email.  At a guess I would suspect that your order did not go through.  You should email sales, [email protected] , and provide them with as much information as possible and they will be able to give you a more exact answer.

I figured I'd post this here to try and reduce the amount of threads there are. I haven't seen these issues/bugs posted, if they have been, my apologies.

First: In the Colony Management screen, the planet spins REALLY fast. The 360* view of the ships does the same thing. Anyone else experience this?

Second: When I move my mouse to the edge of the screen, doesn't matter which side of the screen, it goes off into some kind of berzerker crazed thing where it flashes and what not. The only way to get out of it is to click somewhere on the mini-map and wait a sec for it to go there. I wish I could explain this better, but I can't.

Ok i pre-ordered the game months and months ago. when you could first pre order infact, and it doestn give me any options in stardock for the extra content?

This isn't too big of a deal.

This could be a problem with my video card, but whenever I establish a trade route, there is no evidence of one being there. The colored path of the freighters do not appear and I sometimes forget whether if I established one or not. Any thoughts?

Again, this isn't a big deal, just more of an annoyance.

-I'm running on XP Pro
-English language
-INTEL(R) EXTREME GRAPHICS 2 FOR MOBILE, 64 megs (I believe that's correct)
-Pentium 4, 3.06 Ghz
-1 gig of memory

And yes, I have updated all of my video drivers.

I have 2 main questions at the moment.

1) Same as above:
Ok i pre-ordered the game months and months ago. when you could first pre order infact, and it doestn give me any options in stardock for the extra content?

Where can we go to get our Pre-Order extra content?

2) This may well be a silly question but I can't find the answer in the relevant section of the manual. How do I rotate the components when creating a new ship design? I have the curvy wing design on one side pointing down but I can only seem to have it pointing up on the other side.... I'm sure there must be something obvious I missed!

Thinking of buying GC2 (more like biding my time) but I know that I need a new video card. My X800XL died, and I'm stuck with a 1995-1996 Matrox that has trouble with video. Anyway, I know I need a new video card, but mostlikely I'm not going to be using it beyond GC2 until 2008. I'm short of cash, so I was wondering if a 6200 64-256 would allow me to play with reasonable graphical detail (looks pretty, some anti-aliasing) and at a decent framerate. I have an Opteron 146 that runs on par with the FX-57, and 1 gig of 2-2-2 DDR480.

In the components section about half way down there is an option to rotate hard points kinda a silly way of going about it but thats how you do it.

I too would like to know where to get the extra ship components and stuff for those of us who preordered download only. Even if it is not an option tell us. I would be mad but not too mad. Also, I have a decent system and my ships look terrible. There is no texture on them at all. They are just colored polygons. No windows, lights, texture at all. My system seems to be pretty far above the minimum but the ships look terrible. Not like screenshots at all.

The bonus pack content is part of the standard installation via SDC (v1.0D).

Use one of the attachment modifiers.

Honestly, I'm not too up-to-date on Nvidia cards, but it should suffice. I would go with the 256MB version, however.

Isnt possible to move up/down in galaxy map? I tried the middle button/wheel but it doesn't work.
Perhaps a keyboard command?

The tech tree is simple yes.. but so simple there are no details for each technology.. what it offers.. etc.
There is a bug while leaving a game and starting a new one. Sometimes if you press new game you see again the current game.
There was some crashes too one during loading a saved game, one when going back to game after an alt-tab to windows and another while playing the game.

A complaint also is that most texts, infos in the game are very poor but some videos or images are those from GalCiv I ...!
For example the video for starbase...
Another problem is the influence shows in minimap and I can see all other races even I never met them before. However some people may find it helpful if you dont like the position in the map as I do (too close to other races or alone in a corner with little stars). OK good but cheating...

And a last question.. will be there a map editor in future?

1. When you have units "stacked" you can no longer get to the more detailed unit information screen. This effects both single ships and especially ones in a fleet. In order to edit them or see the individual ships in a fleet I have to move them out of the stack first. This does not seem correct. Shouldn't you be able to "shift click" or "double click" on a ship or fleet to bring up the detailed view, as you can when they are not stacked?

2. Problem with create fleet. Several times while playing I selected 2 ships and tried to create a fleet but what happens was a new little box appeared with a "0" in it and the 2 ships remained separate. I could do this over and over again and create tons of "fake" fleets. I would then have to move the real ships out of the stack (see problem 1) and then I would be able to get the option to disband all the fake fleets. This would seem to happen intermittently.

3. When looking at a planet often the graphic under the tile did not match the terrain type. For example click on land and it would say it was an ocean, or click on an ocean and it would say it is a prairie.

4. Why can you not edit the "core" ships to make your own versions of them?

I get this when I try to order from Norway
"Your order has likely failed because store was unable to verify your billing address as provided on the webstore form. Please be sure to enter your billing address on the form exactly as your credit card is registered to - this is not necessarily the mailing address that your credit card company sends your statements to.
You may want to contact your credit card company to verify that your credit card is registered to the correct address. It may be a matter of how your credit card company has the billing address formatted, such as spaces in your postal code or street number. Please verify this information with them."

How can I possibly get the address excatly the same as my bank when the form is designed for an american adress structure I have tried 5 times and given up

I think that this bit is a bit confusing or causing confusion;

The Bonus Pack everyone gets. It's a series of minor updates, tweaks, and new content that we came up with while we waited for the stores to get their copies. If you download 1.0D then you have the Bonus Pack. There will be a seperate thread that explains what's in the Bonus Pack.

The electronic content that will be a seperate download in the Downloads section contains the Galactic Civilizations II Desktop and additional Ship components.

So, is the additional Ship components download of the Collector's edition the same as the pre order ?
Do pre order user also get the GC2 Desktop theme ?

If one follows the given link you are elligble (?) to an upgrade offer..

No real problem really, tho I don't need the box and the tech tree is something I will lose within a day anyway so if the theme is ment for pre orders as well then it would be a bit of a waste (for me) to "upgrade"

Hope I'm not being to annoying now...

I have to admit that I am confused myself: I pre-ordered the game about 12h before it went live using tokens. So, if I read the original post, my (electronic) copy is the collector's edtion and thus I will be eligible for the collector's edition additional downloads, correct?

In the downloads section, I am asked to provide my serial number and then it takes me to download the bonus pack only. Does this mean that the collector's edition download is not available yet, or is it already up but I am not eligible for it? Could someone who has the collector's edition give us some info on what is available to them for download?

Thanks!
