STICKY: YOU have questions? WE will try to answer

Before you make that post..read here..

Using our vast psychic powers, we are going to attempt to preempt the most common questions we think people will have and put answers here so that the main forum can stick to flaming us for not having some feature or because the installer formatted their hard drive (a problem that we've found only happens on 1 out of 3 systems and only if you have an nVidia or ATI card -just kidding-).

#1 What's the difference between the Bonus Pack and the Collector's Edition?

The Bonus Pack everyone gets. It's a series of minor updates, tweaks, and new content that we came up with while we waited for the stores to get their copies.  If you download 1.0D then you have the Bonus Pack.  There will be a seperate thread that explains what's in the Bonus Pack.

The Collector's Edition is a special version of the game that has additional content and is only available to users who either pre-ordered the game, bought the Collector's Edition specifically (Walmart or Stardock directly) or got the game as part of the first manufacturing run.

The Collector's Edition retail box is silver and contains a poster with the entire tech tree on it.

The electronic content that will be a seperate download in the Downloads section contains the Galactic Civilizations II Desktop and additional Ship components.

#2 I'm in Europe and..

Our publisher partner, Paradox, makers of great games like Europa Universalis and Hearts of Iron is handling things over there.  It should be available at retail soon.  They are also working on native language versions throughout Europe but that's going to take some time.

If you're in Australia or New Zealand, Auran is taking care of things there and they will have it out shortly too.

#3 I'm a member of TotalGaming.net, can I get the CD version?

Yes.  If bought TotalGaming.net and used tokens to get the game, it's $5 plus shipping.  IF you got a free upgrade to the new TotalGaming.net (And if you don't know what that means then it probably doesn't apply to you) then getting the boxed version is $20 plus shipping.

#4 I want to download the game now! Do I still get a box?

If you select to get the retail unit when you purchased then yes. You get a temporary serial # and the box will be sent to you.

If you selected the download only option, you can later have a box sent to you for the cost of shipping.

Please copy and paste these items to [email protected] if you want to do any of these things so that they know precisely what you want to do.

#5 I want to go to the store and buy the game but does it have copy protection?

None whatsoever.  No CD check. No "Star Force". Nothing.  You don't even have to enter in the serial # when you install (because, let's face it, 5 years from now people are going to lose that thing anyway).

That said, we recommend putting in the serial # because it'll make it easier to get updates. Updates require the serial #.  Once you have updated using the serial #, our system will have your info for you so that 5 years when you've lost that serial # you can get it back automatically.

One question: What is the difference between a Metaverse game and a regular sandbox game? i know there are additional restrictions on a metaverse game, but could you please tell me what they are?
Well its 'Vanilla Gal Civ' ensures everyone is playing by the same rules and all is fair/equal. Cause you can mod GC2 all you want and play a sandbox game with those mods.
So basically it's just no modding? Other factors (number of races, difficuty setting, nature of the galaxy) are all the same as for sandbox?
It's all the same except the Metaverse game is the base game rules and the sandbox lets people throw in mods.

I'm a little confused, If I preordered with Stardock and got the electronic download do I get the collectors edition content or do I have to get a box copy to get it?

I was wondering since the release date got pushed forward in Europe if it is possible to buy/download the game from Stardock for non-US residents? I live in Sweden and have a 512 KB ADSL connection, can i download the game?

I wouldn't expect the poster of the tech tree if I were you but should be getting the download extras (ship components and GalCiv desktop).

Självklart. I have already preloaded most of the game and I live in Sweden. They also ship to Europe if you want the box and you can download the game and play while you wait for it to arrive.

So what is your connection speed? I was just wondering if 512 KB is to slow to download the game, but i read that Stardock had a bunch of mirrors, perhaps one in Europe?

I have 2 Mbit/s. The game is roughly 1.1 GB if you download it all. It took me a couple of hours to download everything last thursday from a server in USA.

Well then, thanks for the answer, i am going to cancel my preorder at Play and give downloading a try.

I got 2 questions:

1) How many MB are the rest of the files?
2) Which programm do i need to play those BIK files(tutorials)?

I wrote this in another thread but I think it fits better here:

"A quick question regarding us E.U players (Sweden more precisly). If I were to buy it from Stardock now (gotta support the developer. you know ) would I get the "preorder" bonus or am I out of luck and can E.U citizens get the packaging, cd:s and manual sent to us as well? If so, will I have to pay extra for shipping from the U.S or will I recieve it from a E.U source?"

I paid 10$ shipping&handling to Germany so I assume it will be the same to sweden as well.
And yes you get the Collectors Edition box with all the goodness.
Got a temporary serial for preload and got all available files in roughly 3 hours (1 MBit ADSL).

And yes you should get the Collectors Edition with all the goodies... (somehow EditPost doesn't work so I had to make a new post for this)

If I purchased the game through TG.Net and want the box, etc, how do I order that? Also, will I get the collector's edition stuff?

Just follow the link below. That will tell you if you're eligible for any upgrades and what they are. Just make sure you're logged in under the same account you used to buy the game via TGN with.

Thanks for the link! That saves me emailing Kim for the upgrade. Just placed the order. Even though I don't really need the tech tree, I still want to support you guys more so I'll give ya another $20.

Ok I think I get this edition stuff ..... having pre-ordered the download version, the 'extras' that we should get for the collectors versions (ie more comps for ships) will be available to download on the website sometime after release ... correct? How about the tech tree as a PDF also?

I already ordered, thans for the link.

I reordered the download version a couple of days ago, so I assume that I got the collectors edition, though when I visit the 'upgrade link' it says that I'm eligible for an update to the collectors edition (though that seems to be the boxed one). Where exactly can the extra ship components and windows theme be found?
