Ok so anyway. I was reading it and at the end when you no all is lost.. and you are just waiting to go down in a blaze of glory.. it is at that point that I like to throw in some cheats.. make an amazing comeback, and stick it to the guy that was beating me

So it just made me wonder... will there be cheats for the game?

2BlacShade , Please tell me what file(and where it is located) i need to change to edit ability prices! I searched whole local game directory and didn't find it

Hey figured out the Ctrl + Shift + W
It takes the selected ENEMY SHIP and turns it into your ship -Sweet!-
Any ways I found a site where someone has been added the cheats to, and added this to it.

The ctrl-shift-M cheat also seems to increase influence...at least for me. I select neutral and then no for any gov't change and my influence areas grows....

hhhmmmm...actually sometimes influence changes without the Alignment screen coming up..must be some weird key combination....

ctrl shift M, like I said, adds all technology except miniaturization for some reason. Weird, because ctrl shift R simply adds it all.

Please tell me what file(and where it is located) i need to change to edit ability prices!

WARNING!!! Make a backup of ANY files BEFORE you edit them, and tuck them somewhere safe!!

It is in at
C:/Program Files / Stardock / Totalgaming / GalCiv2 / Data / English

The File is called AbilityBonuses. Its a XML Document.
Open it by RIGHT clicking and bringing up the options. Then select Open With { Should be 3rd choice down }
And select NotePad.

READ IT. Its kinda easy to guess what you have to edit.

Its got to be there somewhere, otherwise you could not run the game.
What files do you have in the data/english folder?
Well since you seem so sure, I suggest e-mailing Stardock.
Or I could send you a unedited one. To put in there.
I just don't see how the game could/would run without that file tho.

Actually the Ability Bonus information is stored in English.str for some of us, you can edit the information with notepad and thereby get all abilities for naught or get the proposed extra points by chosing Courage. All to your liking.

Enjoy!

I cant get the cheat mode to work. I try adding cheat after the qoutes, but it either does nothing at all (no cheats available in game) or it tells me it is invalid and that it cannot be found in the start box or something along those lines. There is only one file that I am actually able to even edit and that is on my desktop. The ones in the folders dont even allow me to add any sort of text.

Did you use a shortcut? And no quatation marks between the GalCiv2.exe and cheat.. it should be

GalCiv2.exe cheat

that is. just a space between the .exe and cheat

okay well I would show you a picture of my desktop right now and what Im trying to do but I cant figure out how. So I'll just try to explain it more thoroughly.

I made a short cut of GalCiv2 that does not have the GC2Launch in the properties. I go to edit the properties just like Majuks said, without the qoutation marks and one space between exe. and cheat, and every time I try to apply it I get a message that says:

The folder 'C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2.exe cheat' is not specified in the Start In box is not valid. Make sure that the folder exists and that the path is correct.

word for word. But I dont get it. Any help?

You are putting it in the wrong place.
It goes in the TARGET box- Should be the top box-
You are putting it in the START IN box. Switch boxes and they should work.

Okay it is still not working. Now instead of the message saying in the Start In box it now says that the Target Box is invalid. I dont get what Im doing wrong. If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated

xTR4CEx

Open up the properties and delete everything in the TARGET box.
Then copy and paste the below in there.

"C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\GalCiv2.exe" cheat
