DOWNLOAD WOES!

DOWNLOAD WOES!

Downloading problems here.

On Tuesday, February 14th users who were in the BETA program will be able to PRE-LOAD the game via Stardock Central.

On Wednesday, February 15th, all users who pre-ordered directly will be able to PRE-LOAD the game as well.

It requires an updated version of Stardock Central that has been designed to make use of our updated server farm infrastructure. So in theory, your download speeds should be very fast.

Stardock Central 2.29a or later is needed. Go HERE to get it.

However, some % of people are going to have problems.  This thread is to make it easier for them (and us) to figure out what went wrong.

Important points:

1) Don't assume the problem you run into is universal.  So if you run into a problem, please report it.

2) Give as much information as you can.   The log info will be important.

3) There are 3 types of failure:

a) Server Time-Out -- this is where you lost connection to the server. We want to know about this as the new server farm should be able to handle 10X what we are expecting. Don't worry though, Stardock Central supports download resume.

b) User-Validation failure.  This is where the system can't find your information in the database. Is the email address you used to order the same as the email address you used here?   Once your order has been processed (i.e. beta users have already been processed, pre-orders will be processed the end of the day tomorrow) you will receive an email with info.  If you lose this info, go here and put in the email address you think you used to buy the game.

c) Extraction error.  This is where it has downloaded but it fails to properly extract. This should be pretty rare.

We are anticipating a 2% problem level. That is, 2% of users will run into some problem.  That's approximately 100 people from the beta and initial direct pre-order group (we aren't assuming all users will try this out).

So this thread could get pretty busy.  Stay tuned.

We will begin at around 2:30pm EST.

Thanks Graviton, but I already tried that several times. I get no serial key, but so do a lot of other people in this thread that do get a confirmation mail. I also mailed stardock (sales) about 15 hours ago, but so far no word from there either.

Please, could someone tell me whether or not I ordered the game? I didn't get any confirmation mail and want to know for sure I didn't order before trying again.

Mountainforest, I was unable to locate any order for you.  However, I only have limited details from your account to look at so my search may not  be complete.  When you mailed sales([email protected]), if you didn't include additional information like mailing address and other email addresses you may hae used, then you should probably email them again with that information so they can perform a complete search.

Never mind, I just asked on the IRC channel, and there was no record in the sales database either. I'll try to order again. Thanks for the help .

I downloaded the pre-load stuff last night at about 11:00 pm EST. I got a 'time out' error about 20% of the way through the first file. Tried it again, it started where it left off and trucked right along for about 10 minutes. I queued up the rest of the files (tutorial, multimedia and movies) and went to bed. This morning all had gone well.

Overall a good experience. Thanks Stardock!

I managed to download the main game without problem but I failed to download the Movies package (551 MB) twice.

I have the latest build of the SDC (2.29a.374, build: 117), my conection speed is 256 KBPs (no better option in the frickin hellhole where I live). My problems:

#1 - Download speed is a fraction of what my conection can do and it varies wildly: the best it can do is 25KB/s and the SDC is downloading at 7KB/s at best. Sometimes it falls to bytes per second.

#2 - I let my PC downloading the file overnight. Never had a problem downloading huge files. I just have to be patient. But after 8 hours it was only at 5%. I presumed it was an error and I left it downloading, some time later after seeing it at 46% I left it. 12 hours later I returned to see the progress and it was at 9%... no message error, no log, no message box, nothing. I presume it restarted the download from the beginning... again.

So it seems I'll be unable to get the Movies package from the SDC. I hope there will be another download option. Without the movies the game wil not be half fun for me.

Adragal, have you tried downloading and installing any of the other modules? What download speeds do you get for those?
Yes, just now it finished downloading the mutimedia package gc2_Multimedia.sdc file and failed installing it.

I was wrong about the downloading. The SDC manages to download the files but it fails to install the package and restart downloading the file from the server again from the beginning.

I don't understand how it managed to install the main file (the game) but is failing to install the movies, tutorials and multimedia.

I got a server time out error every time that I started playing solitaire (yet other games worked fine). A restart of the computer cleared up whatever the problem was and I have all the files

I downloaded 2.29a.374, build 117 of the Stardock Central application.  I was able to download all the files for "Galactic Civilizations II" fine.  The installation files are extracted fine.  However, the proccess stalled at "Extracting: Torian Vengeance.gc2scenario" "1% complete."  I've left it there for an hour without progress.

Stardock Central was still sort of responsive.  The install animation was still playing.  I could close the application (I get a warning about GalCiv2 still installing).  If I clicked "Cancel", though, nothing happened.

I was experiencing the same issue with BaseGolf, though, so this seemed to be a general problem with Stardock Central and my system.  It happened at 6% in BaseGolf, though.

I tried emptying my Temp folder SD was using without success.  I moved the SD Download folder (Tools > Settings > Advanced > Directories section, Downloads folder).  It was C:\Documents and Settings\

Thought I'd share in case anyone else was having issues.

i don't have a download problem, but an account problem. when i tried to access my stardock.net account this morning, i couldn't log on. That's the mail i wrote at the support:

i can't access my stardock.net account anymore. when i try to log on with Stardock Central 2.29, i get the message "the nickname you have entered is already in use, please use another".
Since i was able to create my account with that Nickname, it shouldn't be possible that it is in use by someone else.
When i try to log on my account on stardock.net, i get the message "login failed". Then i tried the "Lost Password" option, and received this message: "Sorry, we could not located a Stardock.net account for ........ Please try again."

I validated my stardock.net account, and was able to download parts of my pre-ordered galciv2 (CD). So it seems strange to me, that my account just vanished like this. Though my Nickname still seems to exist.

Can you please look into it?

Thank you

I didn't receive an answer from support til now. I know that it can take up to 48 business hours, but i am getting nervous easily, when i can't access my own accounts. So i created the same account again, using the same email and password then before. i only changed the nick. strangely, i was able to log on this site with my old nick, but i couldn't post anything. Can someone please tell me, what went wrong with my account?

Game downloaded at 95 KB/sec to 165 KB/sec with no problem after SD told me I needed to update first.
Now I see that I need to DL the tutorials and videos also.
videos are D/L right now with the speed ranging from 21 -95KB/sec with occasional jumps up to 275 KB/sec.
The farther it gets the faster the average speed gets.
I am just glad that it has been trouble free, and makes it easier to play when the final files come out on the 21st.

All right, I quit. It is not working for me. I already tried the download seven times to no avail. To who I have to talk to cancel my preorder?
Dorigo, are you still having issue? I've logged on as you and am successfully installing the pre-load now.
Nakor,
Is there any info on the Activation 0 error? Not sure if it is a problem or not..perhaps it is because I also bought the pre-order with a different email than my stardock.net account...
Andy, that's probably the issue. Please email old and new emails to [email protected] and I'll sort it.
Twice the installation failed because it complained I had invalid account info and made me reenter my serial number. StarDock Central now shows everything updated, so we'll see what happens after I make the final downloads tomorrow! I never had any problems with the Beta downloads.

IN your case I bet it doesn't know how to handle the + in your email address.

Figured as much. Any way you can change the email address on the orders to be just: kyle at bresin dot com?

I clicked the top install button for GalCiv2, left it overnight and completed the download last week. Today, I wanna get the exe to play the game, but lo and behold, there's still 3 more freaking huge downloads missed out (hidden in the (+))!!! WTH, shouldn't the top button grab the whole GC2 installation!?
Crap, noew another 3/4GB to go at 10kb/s
