Really, what could tactical combat add? It wouldn't make the game more fun, it would make it really really poor. An AI really can't compare with a human on the microcombat level like that. Just play Rome: Total War for proof. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy R:TW, but the AI has to COMPLETELY outnumber you and overpower you for any hope of winning, and even then it isn't certai

If you've followed AlFonse's career on the GalCiv 2 forums it is that of complaint complaint complaint. He has his right to his opinion but I found most of his complaints petty and irrelevant. This post is no exception. Is GalCiv a "puzzle" to be solved? Only if the game is about finding an exploit. @Xan I don't care if you let peo
Are you from europe? I think it's this language settings problem. Set your computer's language setting to US-English and that problem should be sovled.
Well on difficulty modes below tough starbase defenses are not a bad investment, since it will take some time for the ai to be able to build fleets that can even scratch fully equipped starbases, in this cases starbeses can defend them selfs for quite a long time autonomously. However on modes above tough starbase defenses are plain useless. At the time you've upgraded the base the ai already possesses ships that are more powerful. I defend starbases by placing several attack ships a
LOL, frookie the proselytiser
Re minors declaring war on you: I have not had this in a while since they are a lot rarer than earlier patches but last time I had that happen I immediatly talked to them offered peace and they gave me 3 real tasty techs to boot. shortest war ever lol, yeah they're really stupid these minors... I also had this happen a couple of times, mino
Ok so the biggest argument of the no-camp is that the ai can't handle tactical combat. According to that logic all game elements in which the ai is inferior to human should be avoided. One understands that the ai will not be able to handle Tactical combat as good as a human-so one dismisses the idea. Now can anybody give me ONE example where the ai is better than a human? in any game type?? even as a pure strategy game, the ai is still exploitable, simply on the strategical side
Well if I had the say I'd get rid the possibility of paying money to change your allignment. It just isn't right that one has the possiblity of always choosing the evil option at the ethical random events and than paying 10000bc to become good or natural. Honestly its a joke: The 10000 bc is mostly more than worth the beneifits of choosing evil: 40% planet quality increase, 50% starship bonus, 40%Moral Bonus etc. 10000bc you get by switching Production off a few turns. <TABLE c
I'd really love tactical combat in galciv II. C'mon! who wouldn't like it to fight battles as the commander of a fleet?? Implementing tactical combat into a GC game would be the absolute best way to make sure I won't buy it. Galactic Civilizations is a STRATEGY game, not a TACTICAL game -- you are not Captain Picard, you're Admiral *insert name here*.
in my oppinion it is MUST to automate everything that is repetitive in the game, cause these things slow down the game pace a lot and make it monotonous. As mentioned above starbase upgrading needs automatisation. I could imagine new ship options for constructors like: "head to the next mining-/influence-/eco- base etc. where ever upgrading is possible". After the constructors are built they would right away head for the next starbase that matches your upgrading criteria de
I also immediately assign a rally point to the starbase - that action facilitates future upgrades I also assign rally points to starbases right a way. But that still leaves upgrading starbases a pain in the a** , because the really points are not sorted alphabetically in the list. Instead rally points are sorted chronologically, I don't find th
3. The government forms are wrongly reported. They ONLY give an economy bonus. The real rate is lower than reported as well. They apply 10/20/30% bonus respectively and are applied as racial bonuses. This is NOT included in the figure on the civilization stats screen. Off Topic: I guess the discriptions in this game are beyond realit
/e sends you a copy of Master of Orion II There you go. Hehe, you cought me Indeed I played MOO2 a damn lot. No matter I'd like these mini events in GalCiv just as much.
These feature has been included in patch 1.1 You can change that in the options menu
Ok I'll BUMP it. The least I want is this to be recognised by a dev since this is an obvious bug
I'd like to see ramdom events happen more often too. Specifically I'd welcome a new set of mini-random events with low impact (unlike the existing ones). These events could include things like: -Finding a wrack in space which can be transformed into 1000bc, or corrupt gouverners stealing money from you -Alien race catching one of your spies, relation decreases by one level -Random space monsters (Or dread lords) suddenly appear to attack -Hyperspace dysfunction: Ships c
@ Marcathonas Everybody is allowed to post his ideas here, no matter if you Marcathonas like that or not. There is no need to let someone down only because you disagree. Hope your future posts will be more objective....
Ok i keep building planets that loose money... Where does the money come from?! Let say i have a planet with 8 tiles.. I would normally try to make a balanced planet from this.. 3 factories, 3 research center, 1 entertainment center, and 1 bank. Gigantic Production capacities are of little use if you don't have the money to pay the maintainance
I just discovered that my waepon bonus is not being applied on starbases. In this game I have upgraded my starbase with Battlestationons (all dmg +1) a Devastation Beam ( Beam +7), plus mass accelerator and missle dmg modules and varius defenses. http://img486.imageshack.us/img486/8179/pic10su.jpg . my beam dammage should be 10, since I have a weapon bonus of 31% (8 *1.31=10.48). http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/2073/pic25kc.jpg . The defenses seam to be applie
Diplo Vitory can be easy depending on the settings of your game. For exapmle playing a game in a galaxy of good races will surly be easy. On the other hand the diplo victory playing as good in a galaxy of evil races on a hihger difficulty mode may be impossible, since you'll be constantly at war and never have occasions to gather techs and money to "bribe" other races into your alliance. Where I see a problem is the neutral races. It is very easy to have graet relations with them, no matt
To Issue 4 ii) The Attack power of a fleet is not pooled. During Combat each ship attacks seperatly, all attacks and defenses are counted seperatly. This can be observed during combat in the combat simulater. On the bottom of the screen you can see each ships attack (how much dammage the ship rolled), what the targets defenses rolled and how much dammage resulted from the attack.
I'm sure the surrendering thing is in large scale something completely random. In my last game the Korx were the ultimate race, controling around a fourth of the galaxy out of 7 players and having twice the army he's nearest competer (me) had. Whatever, by chance I saved the game just before my friends, the torians ( I had close relations with them) surrendered to me. Juhuu! cool!- unfortunately the game crashed at this moment. When I reloaded my game the torians surrendered-as before- the fo
Medium hulls are better for survivability. Sure, in total the fleet has only a few more HP, but one of those fighters is going to die more quickly than a medium hull, which will drop your firepower down. That makes sense I agree, especially when you use beginner weapons. However I'm not sure if this i
In my current game I have built 2 offensive ships, one small and one medium size. By comparing these 2 ships I started to doubt if there is any justification for building medium ships. These are the ships I've built: Medium Ship has 41 space: I equipped it with with 1 Impuls drive(6 Space) + 5 Lasers V (6 Space and 1dmg), alltogether 36 space used and 5 free Small Ship has 28 space: I equipped it with 1Impuls driv
