I was testing upgrade scenarios yesterday and discovered that XP 32-bit will not upgrade to Vista 64-bit. But I have to admit I am not at all surprised by this. But I suspect there will be some users that are. By the way Vista 64 absolutely rocks on a Core 2 Duo at 2 Ghz, with 2 GB RAM and a gforce go 7600 at 256 MB.

Looks very nicely done. I for one am excited about the new look, not that th eold one was particularly bad or anything.
That email smells phishy to me!
Can't wait to hear how you feel about Vista after having to go back to XP. Eagerly awaiting updates!
I have a new HP DV900T CTo scheduled to be built on the 23rd. And then shipped to me from the factory. I wonder if it will make it under the deadline based on when I get it. I know it will be fully Vista ready. Core 2 Duo t7200@2 Ghz, 256 MB Gforce Go 7600, 2x120 GB HDD, with XP Pro instead of Home.
I have noticed tat a lot of skins don't work correctly as well. Some will even show in the preview but WMP seems to default to a generic skin when I try to apply the one I want. I'm guessing the file format as changed or something.
This is what happens when someone drinks too much Moosehead and then tries to write a EULA.
I'm really jazzed about this release. I would love to know what sort of prebuilt themes/bars will be shipping with it. I assume the 9/12 date is release to ODNT subscribers as well as general public...
Two issues continually bug me: 1. It is always a pain when I see some really nice skin and then discover it doesn't have a vertical Taskbar skin, or simply maps the boring old Windows colors to a vertical taskbar. Could there be some sort of way to rotate a horizontal 90 degrees? 2. I never use the dark skins because there are always places where the fonts are screwed up. Usually when the default font is light to contrast with t
Does IE generate the same error? Since Avant uses the IE engine does the IE error also occur at the exact same addresses? When was the last time you did a deep scan for both viri and for spyware? It sounds like something has put a hook into your IE that is interfering with it's ability to connect to, and I would guess run scripts from the mail sites.
Amazing! Truly innovative human to computer interface. This sort of research will indeed change the way we interact with computers, but how long the road? I want it now.
I once dated a Barbie that sort of smelled sort of like...
God how I wish I could get VB in the US. Fosters won't allow them to import it. Probably afraid us yanks will discover what real Aussie bee tastes like. They'ld never sell another can of the Fosters swill if we could get VB!
I followed the remove, reboot, reinstall idea and here is what I found. After reinstalling I discovered that under the Windows Classic the fonts were still huge.It was is if they had been reset in the registry at some point in time and this setting was what was making the fonts huge on WB5 skins. But as I said the WB 4.x skins all displayed correctly. I applied the XP style, reset back to classic and the problem was gone. Anyway after another re
More information: I installed 4.90f and the desktop icons no longer have the font problem. However the Start Panel does, Aura, Primary Colors, both the 5imple skins and Areo all exhibit this problem. In addition I still have problem with painting the Taskbar when I apply a skin. I have to move the whole thing to horizontal and even then often have to apply a skin two or three times before the taskbar is painted c
Leave fonts default size and leave skin fonts alone. Running Windows XP SP2, patched all the way up to current. Version on the Nvidia driver files is 6.14.10.5405. And I apologize for the second posting I seem to ahve lost this one in the shuffle. Feel free to hit me with all the data requests you deem appropriate. Happy to answer, dig adn troubleshoot to help. I am having a lot of problems with WB 5 skins and the desktop icon and start menu fonts being way too big. Like four times the size of normal. Arrow doesn't seem to have this problem, but most, if not all the rest of the WB5 skins I've downloaded do. I have latest WB5 build, running on an HP ZD7260 with GForce Go 5700, 64MB video, running the 83.xx version of drivers. Anyone else seeing fonts problems with WB5 ski
I am having a problem with several WB5 skins. On several skins when I load them I get enormous fonts on the start menu, in Outlook Express. sometimes for the desktop icons as well. Primary Colors does it, as does Aura, but Arrow does not but it did under the first build. I am running 4.90d(b).002. Anyone else having font size problems.
I run my taskbar/start menu vertically up and down the left side of the screen. When I load a skin under WB5 I have to move it horizontal first or it doesn't get skinned. The windows/apps do but not the taskbar. In fact I have to move the taskbar before I load WBConfig to get it to work. HP zd7260 laptop with Geforce FX go 5700, 64 MB video. Video driver version in display props is 6.14.10.5405.
This worked fo me as well. Thouhg I am still having troubles, which I will post ina separate thread. Thanks!
Upgraded and rebooted, WB 5 doesn't load any skins. Uninstalled, rebooted reinstalled, still no luck. Also getting a black spot in all the config dialogs. I have a screen shot if someone wants to see it. I also get the not installed correctly error in the troubleshooting screen.
Detailed documentation of how to customize a Windows in the same way that recompiling the Linux kernel taylors a Linux install to your specific needs.
I've been using Daily Rotation since 1999 or 2000. Great source of headlines. It is where I start my surfing day every day.
I am a dedicater windows user for many, many years. But I have tinkered with Linux off and one for about 6 or 7 years, always returning to Windows because of lack of support for much of my hardware, and general lack of polish and all those things I have comet o expect of a GUI-based O/S. THen about four months ago I stumbled onto Mepis. WOW! Is all I can say. SInce my first install I have been continually impressed, surprised adn pleased with
Long-term Dell has consistently the best reliability numbers of any brand. Gateway has been through some rought times but they are overall good machines. Ofthe last five laptops I've had HP has without a doubt been the sturdiest and most reliable. How important is local service drop off? That seems to be the bottom line.
