I REALLY, REALLY like the "you must have researched a tech to trade it" idea. Best tech-trade related idea i've heard so far. I can't imagine it would be that hard to work into the AI either...but then what do I know? Cheers h

Fantastic work guys...but you know what this game could really use... Just kidding. Great work. Keep those updates coming. Sleep is for the weak. Cheers h ps. Your QA guys must love you. 3 updates in 10 days...are they burning you in effigy yet?

"Should this be used with a new game? When you click on the link to get the latest build, it says this: "Note: Using saved games from previous versions not recommended." So I'm going with "yes" on that question. - Ash" D'oh... Cheers h

Awesome...can't wait to try out the improved AI. Defending their home sectors? You mean I'm not going to be able to breeze in with a strike force and take their capital within 2 months of war breaking out? Are trying to make this game tough or something?! Perhaps even painful? Not to mention minors no longer propping up my entire economy... Should this be used with a new game? Cheers h

Hi, Just got to that point in my first "Painful" game (all AIs set to Gifted, large map, everything else set to occasional) where you know you're going to win. My starting position was crap (I only had 2 planets for the first half of the game) but I managed to turn it around...mostly due to the ineffective combat AI. Unescorted transports, fleets sitting motionless in space, unimproved military starbases, 95% of ships are speed 2, planets de

-Fleets sometimes lose all their movement points for that turn. I've even had a fleet be unable to move for 2 consecutive turns. REALLY annoying when you're in a war. -ships will remain selected even after clicking on another ship, leading incorrect movement targets. -i also just got the 'insane post-invasion population" bug. Cheers h

I'm amazed that everyone keeps recommending buying colony ships at the start. Try setting your social spending at 100% building a few factories (you may want to buy the first 1 or 2 factories to get the ball rolling) and then switch to 100% military and start pumping out colony ships (make sure to upgrade the design to make it faster). Maybe a "sensor boat" or two as well to explore. The AI doesn't colonize *that* fast so there's no need to

I've found that aside from their humorous aspects (e.g. the Snathi), the minor civs really add nothing to the games I play. Basically, they're a source of easy money/tech via trading (their diplomacy generally sucks) and, once you get Planetary Invasion, an easy way to get a high grade planet with a bunch of nice improvements (like tech/mfg captials). I'd love to have an option to turn them off, or even better, be able to set how many minor

"My advice to anyone who sees weaknesses in the AI is this: Play on one of the harder levels and you will weep openly at how good the AI can be (and its alot more fun too )" My understanding has always been that AIs settings above "Intelligent" are identical except for an increasingly large economic/production bonus. So any algorithmic AI weaknesses would still be present at higher settings. But you don't notice it as you're constantly trying to keep up with their supercharged econom

As someone who played Galciv 1 several years ago, let me just say that I'm very impressed with the improvements to the game. The ship designer, the new colony management, weapon types etc are fantastic. However, the AI still seems to need a little polish... Playing on 'Tough' (AIs set to intelligent), I noticed via espionage that the Drengins had left their best planet - class 13 - almost totally undeveloped (at least half empty tiles). The
