I've also been very surprised with just how long it's taken some of the main reveiw sites I look at to get their TotA reviews up - it was weeks after TotA's release that some of them eventually got around to posting a review (maybe it was just they were playing it all that time since there was so much new content ), whereas normally with a new release many of the bigger sites tend to post reviews around a similar date.
Obviously Stardock didn't hand out enough expensive "promo item

What a carrier really needs isn't fleet repair, but fleet speed. A carrier would allow you to have engines and life support on a big vessel, saving the very limited space on your tiny fighters (on which engines take up almost all the room) for weapons. I use warp bubbles, but I sure wish proper carriers were in the game.
Ok. I went ingame to verify spy stuff. I went to place some spies on the Thalan and they had 2 Galactic achievements. It would let me place a spy the Economic Direction Unit but NOT the Hyperion Matrix. It was greyed out so there wasn't even an option to do so. Any thoughts to why this is? Is the HM a race specific achievement?
My guess is that it wasn't built yet. The only things I've seen that were actually greyed-out were under-construction or upgrading buildings. <

Not sure what the "UP" stands for. I did have a United Planets decree that doubled the income of trade routes, but that doesn't seem like it would be related, and besides, if it were it would mean that my stat was a mere 148419492% before the event. ^_^
There's a defect in one of their buildings I've submitted as a bug. The "Cathedral of Valor" is supposed to give a 2% civ wide bonus to soldiering, and a 33% defense to the planet it is built on. You can build as many as you like, essentially making your soldiers invincible/planets impossible to invade. Unfortunately if you look at the XML, the 33% to defense doesn't exist and as I just confirmed today, NO Civ wide bonuses apply on buildings that are of type "Normal" (IE: They only wo

So I was looking through the Civilization Manager's Stats and Graphs screen, and I came across an entry for my empire called "Persistent Trade Routes". What exactly is that? I ask, because I'm obviously very good at it. My empire's rating in this category is... Wait for it... 296838984% !!! Yes, yes, thank you. I have ub3r skillz... Or, you know, it's a bug. ^_^

So far? Extra crunchy! Granted, I haven't played many games, but my post-patch one is by far the best yet.

It's full of crunchy goodness and is only like, 5mb. Mmm... Crunchy goodness...
Carrier ships with fighter/bomber squads come to mind
Amen! And ships carrying marines for boarding other ships. Bring back an improved version of the old planet invasion screen! Really, anything that Master of Orion II had, all those years ago, that GalCiv doesn't. That's what should be added. ^_^
umm...what is zoom to mouse?
When you roll your mouse wheel to zoom in, it usually zooms in on the center of the screen.
When I launch the game, it still says version 1.91; is that normal?
Only if you haven't installed the new update. ^_^ It should be 1.92 Alpha.

251 Replies 743,351 Views

Assuming you've already downloaded the latest "Alpha" patch, put out this morning (that's v1.92), you just go into your game options, go to the Interface tab, and check the box next to "Zoom to mouse cursor" in the first column.
So what does that mean, now?In 1.92, should tech costs increase at all? Yes, they'll now increase at the rate in previous versions. Let us know how that feels...most of us are vets at this point I like getting new-player feedback.
I'll do that. I'm starting a new game (my third), today.
Also (and I'm sorry if these were posted in any other forums) but can you jot down what settings you guys are playing at? I can see the math getting wonkey on Immense/Slow Tech games, but is occuring with other game setups?
I just sent you the two files I was talking about, and they were both set to tech speed very fast. One was a huge and the other a gigantic map, but neither were terribly far into the game.

Here's an interesting bit of information... Looking at the cost of Planetary Invasion, I get the following numbers: Start of a new game: 665 points. After 7 years, in my pre-patch game: 6165 points!! SAME game, after installing the patch: 1505 points. Still an increase of 126%, but far, far more reasonable. If that's consistent with the numbers seen if I start a brand-new, post-patch game, I think that's bearable. I'm packing those files to em

Old as in how old? I've got a couple of games that I was just playing (latest ToA version, before this patch). They're both seven years into the game, and comparing the starting and current price of Planetary Invasion, one game has seen tech prices increase to 684%, and in the other, to a holly-jolly 927%! Be happy to send them to you, if that's what you're after.
Yeah, I appologize for a further delay in the official release, but if you don't mind DL-ing a zip, I'll be uploading the patch for you guys to download when I get in the office.
I certainly don't mind a zip, and thank you! I'll be looking for it. It's not the first time I've been disappointed, you know. I'm sure I'll live. ^_^
The real question is how many players ACTUALLY find Research Inflation to be a game breaking bug? I'm not being a sm

As I understand it, tactical combat control was completely left out of this game purely because it was thought that the AI wouldn't handle it well enough to be a true challenge to a human. While I tend to disagree with that, and think that GalCiv-level combat is not nearly complex enough that a decent AI wouldn't be able to handle it, that was the idea. Now if something as major as tactical combat is going to get thrown out due to AI ineptness, I certainly think something as mi
