Thanks...good to know.

I've never paid any attention to the passage of time in my games, and wouldn't know where to look to see how much time has elapsed, but if there are 52 weeks in year, one turn equals one week, and you completed your game in 1 year, am I understanding that you won the game in only 52 turns? How does that work? Thanks.
OK, thanks, somehow missed My Games, but now have the GC DA folder, and the saves are there. However, DA apparently overwrites saves in such a way that you only have saves of the latest game, plus a save called "endgame save". You do not have saves from previously played games so that you can have more than one game going at the same time. Anybody know if this is correct, or is there a way to save a half-finished game, start another one and save it, and have both available when you want to pla
With other games, usually you could go to My Computer and find the main program folder for the game, then go through the sub-folders until you found the "Saved" folder, and in that folder were all your saves. Then you could either delete those you didn't want or replay games from the save point. I was a little surprised to find that I couldn't do this with GA DA. I'm still wondering where on my hard drive the saves are hidden.
When you are planning to have a war with an AI, what importance, if any, do you place on wiping out the AI's resources such as resource starbases, asteroid mining bases and freighters? Do you make this a big enough part of your war plan to design and build some ships specialized for this purpose? Maybe a fast, long range, lightly armed ship to go around and wipe out all AI's asteroid mining for example? Putting it another way, do you think taking out these support items weakens the A
Interesting discussion, thanks.
Just wondering how many of you out there deal with the uninhabitable planets, the heavy gravity, toxic etc. planets that are available in DA. (Seems like a good subject for a poll but I don't know how to set one up, or whether the forum allows that.) Do you usually, sometimes, or almost never, research the techs to make unihabitable planets habitable and then colonize them? Your answer probably depends a lot on what size galaxy you play and how frequently habitable planets occ
I'm not a techie but I can see that your system seems more than adequate for GC DA, not sure but think you have the latest DA patch (you might check on this) and your Nvidia GeForce8800 is a stronger card than mine and the driver is up to date. But just as a diagnostic tool I would suggest starting up with a clean boot and see if DA still crashes...if DA will run on a clean boot that will narrow down the possible causes of the problem.
Thanks, Neilo. Silverbeacher, Re the Round five game specs, I note under Minor Races it said "random/enabled in DL" and was curious about the "DL". Was this a DA game, or was it a DL game? I've never played DL and have no great desire to try it. Thanks for your help.
Thanks for the welcoming...very good and ethical up to now but after being a member of T of E for a few hours beginning to think evil thoughts. In beautiful Monterey Bay area on Calif. Central Coast. Can't hardly wait to get my T of E tee shirt and mouse-pad.
Just joined T of E as Wotan and hope I can contribute. Is there a way I can get the specs for the game played by all in the last round of Metaverse League so I can give it a shot? Is there a button for a mambers-only forum for T of E somewhere? If it's in the sign-up page I missed it. Thanks.
Hi, all. I'm not a strong player but I have been winning some quiet games on a large galaxy with occasional planets at Normal difficulty. At Challenging I've been getting my butt kicked. I printed out Mumblefratz's strategy as laid out in a post dated 1/8/2008 and have been trying to adapt the principles of his huge games to my small games...not working too well, but I've gotten some new concepts for stategy. I've registered a character Wotan on Metaverse, submitted some games, and ha
Wow...that's heavy info...can't take those minor races lightly! Thank's guys.
I'm wondering if someone can comment on the ability of some minor races to gain techs way ahead of an honest, hard-working player like me. If they only have one colony, which seems normal, how can they possibly put more units into research than I can with 4 good colonies and a race with various research bonuses? Yet, when I pull them up on the trade screen fairly early in the game, they have all kinds of techs ..Stinger I, II, III and IV, Planet Bombardment and Invasion, several Xeno techs, Du
Have you tried opening your computer with a "clean boot"? That will help if too much of your memory is being used by programs keyed to startup. Doesn't look like that is your main problem but it's always worth a try with system-challenging games. (When you start up with a clean boot you will not be on the internet, and that might cause a problem with reporting and carrying your games record on the Metaverse, but there is probably a way around that, such as starting up normally on the net aft
Thanks for the comments. My impression from what I've read here is that TA is an improved game over DA and that I will want to have it, so I'm gonna go ahead and order it. But I've also gotten the impression that some of you like TA because it is a more difficult game than DA. Is that true? I hope that TA has options for lower difficulty levels because I'm not looking for a tougher game. The Challenging level of DA is tough enough for me for a while. Thanks for your replie
I'm relatively new with GC DA and enjoying it very much, beginning to earn medals on Metaverse, and thinking of joining an empire...so I won't have any need for TA for at least a few months. But after reading the posts here, I'm getting the immpression that we, that is, those now playing DA, will save money and for other reasons it would be best to go ahead and buy the TA Beta right now. Can someone comment on this? Thanks.
Maybe it's just me being clumsy about handling my ships, but I think a "Go to (Colony Name)" command would be helpful. We had this command in earlier games and it saved a huge amount of ship handling keystrokes. In the earlier games, using this command not only moved ships long distances automatically, it also helped build up the defense of a colony as ships arrived and stopped there. In DA, because of the fleet battle rules, we don't defend colonies so much by having ships orbiting
Thanks everyone for a most interesting discussion. My conclusion? NO MORE MR. NICEGUY!!!
I'm wondering about which ethical alignment...good, neutral, evil...most DA players play by. Has there been a poll taken to find out? I've been playing consistently as "good" because...well, I'm a good guy haha. But I'm getting the impression that the high rollers here mostly play evil. One of the Metaverse empires says the more evil the better. So, what are you all doing? Thanks for your replies.
Wow! Learn something every day. Thanks so much, guys.
In reading strategy posts here I've seen two references to "set my planet focus on research" as part of game strategy. This goes along with the "all-factory" approach, in which you build all factories on colonies, no labs. Apparently your tech research is supposed to happen because of "setting the planet focus on research" even if you have no labs. Am I playing the same game here? Damned if I can find any button or menu that allows me to "set planet focus on research." There is no mention of
OMG you were right. Thanks.
I tried destroying an anomaly with a warship and that wouldn't play, so that answers the question whether they can be destroyed. Next question, do new anomalies keep appearing as the game goes on, or are they fixed in place at the time the galaxy is created, the same as stars and planets? Next question, can more than one civilization discover and get the benefits from the same anomaly, or can they only be used once? Thanks for your replies.
I've been told to make my playing character the default for posting here, but there is no default button on my Manage Characters screen. It shows my character name, Wotan, ranking, games played and won and score, and there are lines for adding new characters. This is the screen that is very dark, with red printing. There is a question mark button in the upper right corner, which if clicked on answers the question what is the default button and shows an illustration of a default button just ab
