Welcome back! I was around back then but lurked up until several months ago. Boards are still friendly as ever even if the posters have rotated. Sweet ships! I know that DA has more hulls and changed the layout of the designer a bit. There are also some extra parts, I think mainly the pieces that make up starbases. I haven't tinkered with TA yet so I don't know.

I don't think I read this anywhere previously in the discussion, but I would strongly suggest running at taxes so low that your morale is 100% for as long as possible. Taxing your small population @ 49% to 59% is only gaining you marginal returns. Crank those taxes down to under 10% (or even 0%) and then you'll gain the 100% population growth bonus (they're so happy they reproduce like rabbits). After you have healthy populations on your planets and/or your treasury is running low, crank thos

Ha! I never picked up on that one either  I think that there is a star system named Kryo that turns up from time to time. I may be wrong though.

Turn them off, ignore them, exploit them, protect them. You can do what you like with them. Ultimately, though, they don't create a huge impact on the game. Have fun with them and if you can't, do what some other posters have suggested and turn them off.

I'm not quite sure, but I don't remember seeing them in the Minors tab. I remember they showed up a couple of games ago and I saw where other races were making peace with them. However I could not find a way to even initiate diplomatic communications. So I loaded up some fleets (they had been around awhile and had managed to build a small but lethal force) and used some aggressive diplomacy

I liked the Warlords series a whole lot. I've played Warlord through Warlords IV. It is turn-based and has both campaign and sandbox games. In it you control cities and conquer more cities. It's totally turn-based. And the AI was always challenging. Cities produce certain types of units. You can stack up to eight units per "army". It is very straightforward but very engaging. Warlords III was the best. Warlords IV changed the battle system a bit and was a rushed product. But a

Suh-weet. I'm holding off on TA until it's released but everything I'm reading is whetting my appetite. My current game was turning a little sour until I took over an Altarian planet and nicked Doom Ray. HAHA! Now we are evenly matched, you glow-sticked-faced humanoids!!! Let the games begin :CONGRAT:

That's a great question. It would totally depend on the game and which neighbor was going to take what. Zyxpsilon has many valid points (as always).

As it turns out in this game I've actually become close with them (but not allied, they are at war with everyone). Like Phaedyme hinted, they came out of the gates very aggressive. And that pissed everybody off. They took out a few civilizations while I tussled with the Terrans. I'm friendly with them and keep them as a buffer between me and the surviving races (currently at war with the Altarians and the Drath, close with the Thalans). The Korath are getting a beating but I keep supplying

You'll be fine. And you might even come out ahead. The AI, for the most part, won't be in a particular rush to reclaim those worlds. And as mentioned above, the JK doesn't put up much of a fight. Yes, it's happened early but consider that a good thing. The JK took half my empire last time and even took my world that had most of my galactic wonders. Losing Eyes of the Universe was tough! But I fought back and it turned out to be one of the greatest games I had ever played :)

Did I skip over anyone's suggestion to improve your diplomacy? If so, do that. If not, then do that anyway. Research the trees that give diplomacy bonuses. Races like you better when you can smooth-talk them. Trading, treaties, and at least a visible military also help.

Not long really. I gave them both Expert Logistics, all of the extreme colonization techs, and 2000 bc apiece. I also churned out fast freighters and filled up my trade lanes with them. Then I brokered economic and research trade treaties with them. Shortly after that, maybe 4 - 6 weeks, they were both close. The Korath are turning out to be real buggers so far. I've turned off tech trading for this game and that's taking some getting used to. I'm still at it though...

Victory is mine! I wiped the Krynn from the face of the universe. They surrendered their few pitiful worlds to the Iconians. I made peace with the Iconians and Arceans and gave them some cash and technologies. I ran over the Dreadlords. Then I knocked out the Jessuins that were hiding behind the Dreadlords. And then went for the Diplomatic victory. What started out as a real lemon of a game turned out to be the Best. Game. Evaaar!!! Started a new one right up and

I've played both DL and DA and have never once played a scenario. I suppose I should but I still have so much fun playing a regular sandbox game. Have fun and post up any more questions. Everyone around here is really helpful and are full of great game tactics.

But it's my understanding that influence buildings on an influence tile will, naturally, help you along the way when going for an Influence Victory. An assumption on my part so if I'm wrong...

I obliterated the Terrans. I took every world that was above PQ 4 (leaving them with three poorly-developed planets) and they eventually surrendered to the Iconians. Their growing threat gone, and with the Krynn territory in range, I can now enact my revenge on those zealous bugs! Bug juice will flood the streets!!! However (and you *knew* there was going to be a "however"), as I brought my Phasor VIs of my new Vindicator class ships to bear on the Krynn armada and my transports rush

Yes, I go straight for freighters and starbases. I normally have some lightly armed, fast interceptors go after them. And I make sure I have constructors on the ready when I knock out their resources. I especially target military resources.

15 Replies 9,314 Views

Ah yes, you mentioned something else that I do. I'll put the first initial of the race I'm playing followed by a number/letter to designate hull size. That way they appear in order of size. For instance, if I were playing the Terrans... T-1 Icarus (tiny hull) T-2 Perseus (small hull) T-3 Hercules (medium hull) T-4 Thor (large hull) T-5 Zeus (huge hull) T-B Builder T-C Colonizer T-F Freighter T-M Miner T-S Scout And then, as better weapons,

I guess everyone has their system - some of us have them more structured than others :) I name my ships differently for each race. I name them after bugs when playing as the Thalans. I name them after mythological creatures when playing the Altarians. I name them after mythological gods when playing the Terrans. When playing the Yor I name them like a robot may (i.e. "Builder", "Colonizer", "Plasma Fighter", "Missile Cruiser"). As the Drengin I use names like "Krynn-biter" and "Bug

Nobody has any starbases at the moment (except me). The pirates have pretty much taken care of that. And man-o-man, these pirates are tough. The Minotaur and Hydra class ships couldn't hang. I'm cranking out brand new class "Swashbuckler" pirate-killers to deal with the problem... and finding success. I've cleared out my immediate space and am poised for my next strike. I'm not sure when it happened but the Terrans are at war with everyone but me. And since they are, and with the p

Alright. I wasn't able to devote as much time as I would have liked this weekend to Galciv. You know, real life got in the way. But it has been one helluva ride thus far. I loaded up my game and I start cranking out my Krynn-killer "Krynnsbane Mk II" ships. I quickly take out the Snathi use their home planet as a jump off to find those blasted Krynn. Judging from the trade routes leading to hidden parts of the map it appears that they are in the southernmost tip of the galaxy.

That interesting you point that out about the lower PQ worlds turning out to be diamonds in the rough. Now that you mention it I also have seen that happen more times than not. As for advice, just focus on what you are doing. I haven't played the beta yet, but the Korath, Drengin, and Yor are going to outpace you militarily because that's what they do. Their infrastructure suffers for it. Let them build their ships. Just build enough so you don't turn out to be the small kid in the
