Ah, okay. That was much more clear Willy. I disagree, however. Massive exploitative advantage? I understand that you can bolster one race with lots of advanced techs, but you can already do that with BCs and ships. And unlike BCs and warships, tech never gets used up. If you end up facing that same civilization later in the game, you've made it more difficult for yourself. At any rate, I don't see it being any more exploitative than the current tech-trading scheme.<b

Wouldn't be any more earth-shattering (no pun intended) than most of the other Mega Events.
Zyx, I have no idea what you are trying to say. What exactly would the problem be with a "No Brokering" option?
To say that there are "some new techs and race specific techs" would be a bit of an understatement. Many of the tech trees are radically different from each other. Other things you missed: Improved graphics, improved performace, improved AI. Planets that require special technology to be inhabitable Racial super abilities New races: Krynn and Korath A new espionage system Mega Events (random, often gamechanging events) Immense galaxy size Fleet support modul
For some people, myself included, "Very Slow" research times just aren't quite slow enough. Particularly if you like long, drawn-out games on Gigantic and Immense galaxies. The solution is simple, but tedious. Go through all the tech trees and manually increase the cost of each and every tech in the game. Well, I really don't have the patience to do that, so I came up with an easier way. Open up TechTree.xml with a text editor (i.e. Notepad). You'll find it in the <span style="
Check out [link="https://forums.galciv2.com/310907"]this thread.[/link] It should give you an idea of the various races' strengths and weaknesses.
Yockers, you weren't expecting chatter about Iran and bombs in a thread entitled "USA Bombs Iran"? You clicked on this thread expecting us to be talking about Galactic Civilizations 2? Really?
I have high hopes for the US under an Obama presidency but to be honest this country has so far gone to tatters it's not worth living in anymore.
... Really? You really, truly believe that? What's gone to tatters? Enlighten me. Furthermore, if the current state of the U.S. could be described as "in tatters," then when was it not? When was this mystical era when everything was sunshine and rainbows? Also, where are you planning to move to?
Ah..what is wrong with american bashing. I am not asking a rhetorical questions. From my understanding, in the U.S, you guys don't know dirt about other people's culture and also think you yourselves are the greatest nation and the most powerful in the world. Not only that, everyone should and ought to follow your way of life.
Broad, sweeping generalizations will get you nowhere in this discussion. You are displaying the very sort of ignorance you accuse Americans of.
Yep, we've done lots of shady shit in the past. Especially during the Cold War. That's not what we're discussing here though. You're accusing our government of planning to nuke Iran, but not providing any evidence. It seems to me you're just fearmongering and America-bashing.
If you wanna discuss the atomic bombings of Japan, that really deserves a thread entirely its own. There are very compelling arguments on both sides.
Nor do we. We've evolved past that stage somewhat, despite what you'd like to think. I'm still not sure what you're worried about. The President says dumb shit sometimes. That isn't news. And lemme tell you something. If Iran develops a nuclear reactor, the USA won't have to do anything. The Israeli Air Force will be on that shit before you can say "depleted uranium." When Iraq was building a nuclear reactor, Israel took it out. When Syria was building a n
Ahmadinejad has said a number of times that he intends to wipe Israel off the map. I'm not sure what the confusion is.
On a side note what would happen if a foreign government on the other side of the world decided that the US should not have object X and then bombed the facilities holding them. Last time I think was dec 7th 1941.
What would happen? We would [link="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_bombings_of_Hiroshima_and_Nagasaki"]make them
Oh, but the video the OP posted is from a year ago. So, to recap, the original poster is making up a scenario in which the USA bombs Iran, directly citing a video from a year ago (in which other people make up a scenario), and indirectly citing BBC news. He then condemns the USA for carrying out this atrocious action. You know, the one he had just made up. Did I get that right?
Ah, okay, all this talk is about Israel doing airstrike exercises. Here's an article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/ukfs_news/hi/newsid_7460000/newsid_7465100/7465170.stm I don't see what the big deal is. Israel is simply preparing in the event that Iran construct a nuclear facility. If they do, I can say with 100% certainty that Israel will blow the fucker to smithereens. But make no mistake. They're not talking about nukes, they're not talking about carpet bombing. Israel
On a more serious note, who says we're planning to bomb Iran? It sounds like a "what if" scenario to me, and that video was just a lot of scaremongering. Show me the evidence that the government plans to nuke Iran, and we can have this discussion. If there is none, then, well, what the hell are you talking about?
"Please do not do this." Oh, okay. Hang on lemme get my phone. Yes, Mr. President? Yeah, I know you're busy... yes but... but Mr. President that's kind of what I'm calling about. IDMopman wants you to call it off. Yeah, the bombing... yes, I know but he thinks it's a bad idea... IDMopman, with an M not an N, yeah he seems to be pretty serious about it... okay Mr. President... okay, I'll tell him. IDMopman, the President wanted me to tell you to fuck off.
Does anyone know how exactly the AI in Twilight values different technologies in the trade screen? Obviously the "Willingness to Trade" value is involved, and I'm guessing either "Cost" or "AIValue" are factored in somehow as well. What I'd like to know is the exact formula the AI uses to determine fair trades. That would be immensely helpful for tech-editing purposes.
For #3, here's a thought (once you're ready to wade into the code):Step 1: Give the tech to all racesStep 2: For all other races, make it require ImpossibleTech - so it doesn't show up on their TechTreeStep 3: For all other races, make it untradeable & unstealable. Now they can't research it themselves, and if you give it to them they can't trade it to anybody else.
So, I finally got around to testing this. Unfortunately, it didn't work. Once you trade for a tech, you're
Hey, any chance I can get a list of the techs that have been altered by this patch? I've been working on a tech trading mod and I'd like to keep it consistent with the most recent version.
Nevermind, I think I figured out what I needed to know. Unless any changes to tech were not mentioned in the changelog, I should be fine.

Don't be in such a hurry to fill up all the space on your planets. Most improvements have a weekly upkeep cost, and you simply don't have enough taxpayers at the start to support such a large infastructure. Also, lower your taxes for at least the first couple months. Your population growth gets boosted by 25%(?) when your approval rating is greater than 75%, and is doubled when your approval is 100%.
You know you could just reinstall the game, right? Talk about melodrama.
Okay, all this "most pirates wouldn't buy the game anyway" and "piracy does/doesn't cost companies sales" talk is stupid. This stuff is impossible to measure. People here like to point at Stardock and say "this is proof that piracy doesn't hurt sales!" but for all you know, Stardock's games are popular despite not having copy-protection, not because of it. We simply can't say either way. The bottom line for me is if I'm selling games, I would definitely want to err on the side
Comparing piracy to stealing a physical item is a horrible comparasion.Piracy is more like finding something you need (headphones, a tool, ect) on the ground, but wouldn't pay for in a store.
Stealing is stealing. You're taking something without paying for it. Don't give me this "finding something on the ground" rationalization bullshit.
There's 2 types of arguments for piracy on the Internet.
