This event is not unique to the Beta (it existed in DA and DL) but that's the game I'm playing so I'll ask my question here. This event is one of the events that occurs where one is required to make an ethical choice that will determine his or her empire's alignment. The event text reads in part as follows: "On the moon of one of our worlds, colonists have uncovered some precursor defenses. . ." The evil choice gives one "+3 Technology." There is no other

This is exactly the kind of tweaking I was looking for in some of my earlier posts on the Arceans and their rather challenging position. My ideas were a bit different (like enhancing the Stellar Forge a bit as one example), but this is good. I guess this will come into effect for the next beta (after 6)?
Acension victory appears to still not be functioning properly. Also noticed the bug where stars etc take on the description of the Ascension crystals. I'm really not sure what is different between Beta 5 and 6. Anyone seen a change log anywhere?
Let me be even more clear that this was a warship, i.e., an armed ship built on a medium hull and containing no constructor, trade or mining modules. I placed this heavily armed and veteran frigate (it had over 200 hit points) on the base to protect it. In the first place, I was surprised the base was engaged instead of the ship. However, I was even more surprised when immediately after the base was destroyed, my warship became a new starbase (without any armament or other extra modules) on t
Uhh, . . . no.
I've seen this "bug" occur twice now. I had a ship sitting on a resource starbase. The base had minimal armament. An enemy fleet attacked and engaged the base instead of my ship. The base was destroyed. In the aftermath, during the remainder of the turn change, my ship reformed a new starbase on the resource and became unavailable to move during the next turn. The new base was, of course, promptly destroyed.
What once existed long ago fell by the wayside. At this point, for all practical purposes, there isn't one.
I was getting the same message. Updating your DirectX drivers to the most current version may fix this. It worked for me.
Can't hurt.
For some races in the previous Beta I would have agreed with your principal argument that the economics system needed tweaking-specifically, I thought the better idea might be to just tweak the races themselves and leave the economics system as it was. However, in Beta 5 I think the economic system is plenty generous. All non-warships are free except constructors, if I recall. I've been playing a custom race without any economic bonus whatsoever and War Party Government and I've been doing ju
Was there a "disease" event going on? Sometimes one of the disease events results in you temporarily losing access to some ship designs. If you lost all, that could mean the disease event has been going for awhile. Just speculation, but it might explain this. Otherwise, it's a pretty odd event.
Okay. Noticed invisible ships in Beta 5. They were Krynn "Vengeance" class corvettes that appear in the "assasination" event. Some, not all were invisible. Also, one or two of my ships were invisible until I moved them at which time they immediate became visible again. Odd. Seems to occur at random.
Still haven't seen this in the latest beta. I had it happen quite often in previous betas, especially with Drengin Super Dominator Corvettes.
You should get the extra tiles when you conquer a planet just like when you colonize it. I don't know about getting back planet quality diminished by invasion-I don't think I've ever used those tactics. There are technologies, like the Arcean Weather Control Zenith, that will increase planet quality. That should be in addition to the bonus you would get from the race attribute. In Twilight, if you do not have possession of a racial tech (not all techs), then it will disappear
The galactic projects you are noticing are being occurring as intended. Several races get early galactic projects. For example, the Arceans get the Stellar Forge that only their unique "tech" "A Glorious History" will allow. They get that tech at the beginning of the game and thus can begin building it immediately. The Terrans get the Innovation Complex under similar circumstances. The Thalan's entire early game infrastructure is based on a series of galactic projects only they can build.<b
I had same result-pretty anticlimactic. Not only that, but it appeared to have destroyed my score. Despite individual category scores in the upper teen thousands to twenty some thousand (economics, military etc), my overall score was only 1900. That didn't seem to compute if I recall correctly the relationship between overall score and individual category scores in the previous versions of the game. Typicall, if I recall correctly, they were roughly consistent with one another.
I've discovered that on reload new "fake" crystals will appear. They appear on the map but if you click on them nothing happens and if you move a constructor on them nothing happens.
I guess the solution is to immediately save and reload the game at the very start and get rid of all of the "fake" crytals. I must have found at least one real one out there somewhere because I got a bonus.
The two techs I've reported above still do not appear confer any bonus or have any applications associated with them in Beta 5. Interesting ideas-I hope they get implemented.
To add to this, before I saved the game I had sent multiple constructors to build bases around Ascension crystals. On the reload those arrived in the spaces where the crystals formerly were located and found nothing. I mention this because I thought at first it might just be another version of the invisible ship or starbase bug but given that the constructors did not form a base when they entered the square formerly occupied by the Ascension crystals I'm pretty sure they've disappeared entirel
I've been seeing this kind of thing since at least Beta 4c. For example, I had the Drath surrender to me despite the fact that I had no military and was out of range of their planets. Even stranger, they declared war on me and then surrendered the next turn.
I've not seen this one for awhile. I'll keep a look out for it.
I just reloaded my first saved game of Beta Five and all of the Ascension crystals have disappeared-even those that had starbases around them. Odd. Has anyone else seen this happen?
Ditto
Zooming the galaxy view screen in and out often works for me when this happens.
