Modders still can't access the models or campaign map (for some reason SEGA chose to encrypt the files that have been modable in every previous TW title). Consequently, the potential for great moding is VASTLY reduced. Unless something changes, there will be no Total Realism, no equivalent of Europa Barborum or Stainless Steel, no must-have historicity mod of any kind for Empire. For me, at least, that means its worth about $10 tops.
1. Rise of Nations - Easily the best cross-pollination of TBS and RTS gameplay elements ever. By far the RTS I've played most, and still installed on both my laptop AND desktop. The Conquer the World campaigns offer the best replayability of any RTS in single player that I've ever experienced. Oh, and RoN also features the best AI I've seen in a game of this genre. 2. Dawn of War: Dark Crusade - Captures the feel of my favorite miniatures game, forces the player to expan
Thanks for the clarification Brad, that makes a lot more sense.

That Steam is doing something arguably more dishonest is really beside the point, by cluttering the "sales" page with non-sales, they're actually obfuscating any real bargains that may be on the service. The entire point of the page, nominally, is to draw people's attention to good deals and consequ
THanks for your continued support of an excellent game! [e digicons][/e]
Games stuck in 800x600 resolution make my eyes bleed. If not for that I'd still be playing Diablo 2, actually, though it doesn't have a damn thing to do with Demigod (or any other Stardock-published game for that matter).
I prefer (and generally use) Firefox, but if I have any problems with it I always fall back to Opera. Both are excellent browsers in their own rights, but I have to give a slight edge to FF.
This is one of the few complaints about Sins that I just can't understand, the game looks jaw-droppingly good IMO.
They all work fine on XP. I've no idea where you got the idea they require Vista, but you've been misinformed.
What an outright horrifying thought, a version of Gal Civ 3 I absolutely wouldn't buy. :( Gal Civ is and should remain a game focused on single player. MP can be added (as a product of already having the netcode from other games) but the emphasis should really remain on the single player experience. Gal Civ occupies an almost unique niche in strategy gaming by focussing so strongly on the SP game and ensuring that the AI is a strong challenge, to abandon that (especiall
seriosuly, you almost didn't buy a great game cause of drm. you people are so silly
Not paying $50 for a rental is far from silly. Personally the whole thing worked out fine for me. I waited until EA removed the limited installation restriction from the Steam version of the game, then picked it up. The result was that instead of getting $50 for the game, they got $20, just because
"Sins can honestly be said to have much greater non-combat depth than it" Umm, no. Certainly not with the expansions. SotS is fairly beer-and-pretzels by the standard of TBS games, but Sins has no empire building depth at all.
I can't win a round to save my life! everyone else has items and I don't even know how you get those lol
:D Some people get lucky and start with one (though I didn't). You can also get them at level up (again, randomly determined). Keep at it and you'll get some good stuff, it's statitstically inevitable. :D
Fair enough. I suppose I don't see it as anything to be concerned about because it's basically the only thing you have any control over: recruitment. Plus, I believe you can best your "master" and become independent anyway (and frankly, my Brute sucks, so it shouldn't be too hard :D). But whatever, it's a cute bit of random entertainment, not worth all this serious discussion. :)
Just remember that if you use that link to create your char and fight him (and lose), you will become his apprentice and give him free exp when you level up.
Just like I give xp to the one that told me about it and he gives xp to the one that told him about it. You make it sound as though I'm tricking people. And "apprentice" is overstating the matter, anyway. The game rewards you for introducing new players by gi

Not that Enterprise is anything extra, of course. An
In no particular order: 1. Oblivion with FCOM 2. Europa Universalis 3 Complete with Magna Mundi 3. Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots Elemental may well supplant one of these, and Gal Civ 2 would be fourth. Demigod... I'll have to wait for a demo to know whether it has a place here. Sins... well there's just not much single player replayability there, I'm afraid. I'm assuming most folks that have this on their list are playing i
Congrats you lucky bastard. :D
I love the "if you complain about DRM you're a pirate" argument, it so directly labels the person making it as a total moron. If I was a pirate, why would I care about DRM? It's not like pirates have to deal with it, after all, and it's not like there's been a DRM scheme yet that wasn't broken within days of the release of a game. DRM only causes problems for paying customers, game pirates don't care about DRM one way or the other because they never have games that are
To be honest, creating campaigns takes more manpower to write a level than what ironclad or stardock probably has, I once did a course, on game wrting, it took us 3 months just to produces several campaign level not even enough for one race, and our prof is actually a person who works in the gaming industry professionally
Err, Gal Civ 2 and its expansions each have a camaign, so Stardock is clearly capable of producing one.
a tutorial would have been appreciated. a campaign mode with a story is not appealing to me at all, particularly for a multiplayer oriented game like this one. i mean, does Team Fortress 2 have a campaign mode? does it need one? exactly.
If the game were clearly advertised as being multiplayer focused, with SP basically reserved for practice skirmishes, you wouldn't hear as many complaints of this sort.
DOTA didn't have a story either.
In fairness, DotA was also a free, fan-made mod project. The bar should be higher for a professionally constructed $35 game, even if I disagree with the particular bar that the original poster is trying to raise.
