In the game I am currently playing, I got a Precursor Mine on my homeworld; and then the second planet I colonized had... a Precursor Mine. The third planet (PQ18) had three different Precursor Artifacts (300% Research) tiles. That's by far the earliest I've ever found a clear-cut Technology Capital.

I've found Rangers in every game I've ever played, except for my most recent one. Heck, I once got the Ranger event on two consecutive turns. They are slow as Christmas, and they only have armor (no shields or point defense), but with their monstrous attack values and hit points, I've never lost one in combat yet (and after a few successful Ranger-vs.-Enemy Fleet battles, their hit point totals really get obscene. Crap. Apologies for the double post -- I got a timeout error from the forums when I first hit "Submit," so I foolishly assumed it hadn't gone through. Grrr.
For me, at the moment, the greatest annoyance with the game involves resource management and strategic overview on large galactic maps. I've probably spent enough time searching around to try to find where that resource I saw was so that I could send a Constructor over to mine it (or the anamoly that my scout saw so that I could send a survey ship over), and panning around the map to make sure that I've explored everything, to have played another entir
