If you start a game (say a campaign) and either hit U or click HUD icon in top right corner of the screen the HUD does not disappear and/or toggle.

You can switch off the shortcut overlay globally via registry. This way no icon on desktop will ever look as a shortcut. If this helps, google for "remove shortcut overlay" to find out how. It is quite possible that there is no way of adding a custom item into the Control Panel desktop right-click menu because it is just that special. Try this: - Right click on the 'Control Panel' Icon - From the drop-down menu select 'Create Shortcut'. This will create a Control Panel shortcut on your desktop. - Now you can delete the original Control Panel Icon if you so inclined. You can also rename the new shortcut to 'Control Panel' - Right click on the shortcut and select 'Exclude this icon from Fences' quick-hide' You are done!
Intuitively, I don't think that disabling animation would make it run any faster. It will take exactly the same amount of time, but you won't get any visual feedback as to what's going on.
