You're clearly talking about the New Republic then. Being entirely EU, that's even *worse*. I'm having trouble understanding how you intend on making an internally-consistent mod with such startling complexity and ambition when you feel thinking about it is impossible. Will you even allow the use of the ship designer, since you intend using icon

I find that military power and tech trading are pretty much the crux of the game: if you lack one or both you're in for a rough ride, but if you've got both it's ridiculously easy regardless of level. Military power in particular seems to be a major part in every AI decision, and as stated in the OP it can be very easy to exploit a massive bump to military rating. Just taking all the hp bonuses you can get gives you a nice game-wide bump to
Your email bounced, I'll try again tomorrow. I'm thinking I'll randomly pick a SC race (I'm leaning toward the ones with decent art available from SC2) and implement it. If it goes well, it shouldn't take more than a couple of days to create a new .xml replacing the current races with Starcon ones. Now, if only the race screen was a list, so we could have more than 11... <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/BigSmi
How about the devs let us use the amazing 3D UI they built properly, with resizable floating windows? If you could leave a trimmed down domestic or treaty window in a corner, you'd be constantly up-to-date.
Bah, forum timeouts make me look bad. Better add some content. How will you address the scale issue? The Federation, for instance, considers 600m ships 'large', whereas even Halo would consider that an extremely small vessel. If you use 'tiny' hulls for fighters, what will you use for Executors and Death Stars? Off the top of my head, B5 is probably the only franchise that uses every hull size from tiny up. What about issues like the Bo
In the case of the Republic and Empire, it could be argued they use the same ships, the same tech, and for a time were ruled by the same man. Worth including twice? I am still of the opinion that the various mod efforts should first concentrate on scenario play. This means we'll actually get something playable a lot sooner, and is really the best wa

ZOMG! Someone else remembers Fading Suns?
Only if that Tiny hull has the greatest psionic in the galaxy flying it, and the missiles are capable of 72,000g turns. I'll take my chances.
I thought of it after going to the trouble of adding transparencies to the symbols from FreeSpace: after all that work I want the bloody thing used more! I hope it's do-able, but not mandatory, as for many groups it doesn't make a lot of sense.
That's what i figured - and why I'd never tried it - but I was reading a review and they author was all excited to be dropping a mancap on a x7 manufacturing square. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on the biggest bonus ever.
Yeah, let's pit the Culture against 'killed by being near 2MT nukes' B5 and the 'armed with 20mm cannons' nBSG. Starting everyone at scratch means many of these cultures can't exist - the Republic is 25,000 years old and the Culture is almost defined by it's absurd level of technology. Aren't you basically just proposing a mod that uses iconic gr
If you place an [x] capital on an [x] bonus tile, is the 2xtotal production bonus from the capital multiplied by the tile bonus? Is it supposed to be?
I thought that's all they were? If they're supposed to cast light, they're broken for me too.
Could race logos somehow be used as badges on ships? This could perhaps be implemented as jewelry.
I don't think the power to destroy planets belongs in this game. The ships have such poor firepower they fire rocks as bombardment - SW-level 'melting the crust' it ain't. I feel popping planets is too much of an outlier in a game of generally much lower firepower. But you're right, terrorstars are the sort of thing ... just so long as they're 'designable', so they can be used for more than 'pop planets'.
Why would it require more logistics to destroy? I'm not suggesting a game-destroying ubership, simply a single 'bigger than huge' hull. It's own logistics requirements would be huge, and since a pile of Tinys can already defeat a Huge, why would this not work on a Superdimensional? Building the ship would only be possible late-game, since the hull tree is long and expensive already. It's only one ship, and poorly-configured it'd be just a
Guys, the AI *already* adjusts asking prices based on ethics, political relationships etc. You need *new* ideas if you want to solve the issue. Again, simply '-10% value per holder of the tech' is a bad idea, but allowing the AI to determine they can get a better deal elsewhere is not. Frankly, if two races are allied with each other and you're not allied with either, the AI should *not* accept a trade from you for a tech they can get fr
Yeah, I'm not eager to see the excellent simplicity of the the game sullied by the addition of unnecessary metagames. I vote no.
Or you've got 120% soldiering bonus. I've had games where 1,000 troops can conquer 10b pop planets in traditional warfare.

It's a common theme in science fiction for a starfaring organisation to have a single starship of enormous power. Examples include the Superdimensional Fortress Macross, either of the Death Stars, the Homeworld Mothership, the Ur-Quan Sa-Matra, the Voth city-ship, etc. I'd like to suggest that a new tech - or series of techs - be added to the end of the hull tree, allowing a new, absurdly large hull-type to be made available. This hull wou
Is there any interest in a thread with links to 256x256x24 images for use as race icons? It's neat to be able to use any symbol you want in-game, it'd help with modding and everyone wants common symbols like SW/ST/FS2/HW/etc. What do people think? UN SPACY! How could I forget UN Spacy?
Unfortunately, I've tried gigantic maps with abundant stars. I always end up with a quite empty map with about 100 stars in tight groups. Changing the stars to 'scattered' just makes it about 100 spread out stars. Is this intentional? 100 stars seems ... not many. I'm talking whole empty sectors.
People don't play BotF because they've got better things to do than convince it to work under XP and it's crap. And guys: star names are stored in a text file called 'stars.txt'. Just edit the names. I changed my names to be from Star Control, for instance (and Alpha Lalande sounds cooler than 'Xisier' or whatever). I enjoy laughing at crap SW/ST games to want to play a mod themed on those franchises.
