Update your video drivers and increase your virtual memory to at least 1.5 GB.

Custom ships that you make in other games will show up in new games when you meet all of the technological requirements for them.
Here's your other thread: Link
Post the contents of you debug.err, which is found in your GalCiv2 directory.
There seem to be people running the game on worse integrated video cards. . . I don't know how well, though. You could try the demo. . . Link
Your Soldiering rating is increased by various racial benefits (which the Drengin have alot of) and technology. The Planetary Invasion branch of research has several techs that increase soldiering as well as providing other benefits. Also, the attacker is always is given a significant bonus to their Advantage (that random number that gets chosen just prior to the action, which is also affected by Soldiering). Even with your low soldiering, it is definitely possible to recapture your planet.
If you have at least some sensor component, design a sensor ship. Use a cargo hull and pack as many sensors as you can onto it, plus a couple engines. What I've also done recent games is bee-line right to Sensors IV and build the Eyes of the Universe wonder. It gives all you starbases and ships a free 15 parsec sensor range. EDIT: Oops, you already know about the sensor ships. Well, anyway, if the enemy starts to chase them, simply run away, leading them to your own for
I have installed the latest versions of directx and my ati drivers just last night thinking that might be the problem but i didn't change anything at all. Same error everytime. The newest version of ATI's drivers was released last month, while yours are months old. Go to ATI's site and download the n
Those video drivers are out of date. Try some new ones. Also, when a render device cannot be created that is a sign that either your installation of DirectX or your video drivers is corrupt or otherwise borked.
Yep, this is a known exploit. It's not a bug, though. The special effects of those invasion options only take effect if you win the battle. This is mean to prevent players from sending 1 troop simply to screw up the planet. Unfortunately, it also means that one can be as harsh as possible without any real penalty.
Try a newer video driver. Link EDIT: Also, using the beta patch might not have been the best of ideas. . . You should really only use the beta patches if you're really feeling like risking stability for an early taste of new and improved features.
I see two major problems and one more potential problem. First, your video drivers are almost four years old -- that's ancient! Second, your swap file isn't nearly big enough. For the amount of RAM you have, I suggest at least a 1.5 GB swap file. The third problem is that your video card simply might not be good enough at all, even with new drivers. . .
Indeed. . . An FX5200 has reasonably up-to-date technology in it, but it's slow -- probably slower than a ti4200, really. Don't ever buy one of those things.
Judging by that debug.err, your virtual memory didn't change. . . Here's a screenshot of the window for setting virtual memory on my system: Link I have the Initial and Maximum set to different values, but you can set them to the same value. After you've set it up, restart your computer. Also, it looks like your video drivers are still not up-
Right-click on "My Computer" on your desktop and click on "Properties". This will bring you window entitled "System Properties", which can also be reached through the Control Panel. Goto the "Advanced" tab and click on the "Settings" button in the box entitled "Performance". In the new window that appears, goto the "Advanced" tab and click on the "Change" button in the box entitled "Virtual Memory". Yet another new window will appear. Select the "
There's a button somewhere in the relations screen that allows one to leave the UP. Be warned that you lose the ability use trade routes when you do this. . . I think there's some other disadvantages, but I can't remember them right now.
The starbase's area of effect is irrelevant with mining bases. Even if the resource is on the opposite side of the galaxy, you will still receive the benefits of mining it. The effect is global, after all, affecting your entire empire.
It failed to initialize D3D, which indicates either a failed/corrupted driver installation or your DirectX installation is screwed up. Run dxdiag and run the D3D test within.
>> Baeowulfe: >> Driver Date: 10/10/2005 22:49:00 Update your video drivers.
Technically you shouldn't be able to put more than one construction or trade module on a ship. In the odd case that you manage it, there will be no difference. It just costs more. It certainly would be nice if multiple construction modules had a benefit, though. . .
You can declare war diplomatically. Just tell someone else who you're going to be attacking -- preferably someone who's not exactly on friendly terms with your target. It's a pretty useful way to buy alliances or just plain better relations.
That feature is one of the most asked for, but IMHO it's also the least likely to happen. I think it was mentioned that Stardock had at one time planned on doing a GalCiv RTS, though.
It might not help, but try setting your desktop colour depth to 32 bit or 24 bit (same thing, really).
Setting the desktop colour depth to 32 bit (or 24 bit) might also help.
Install the new drivers anyway. Ever since release, Stardock has repeatedly said that one should definitely update to the latest video drivers. Indeed, an extremely large percentage of the problems that people had with the game were solved simply by updating to the latest video drivers. If you're a bit paranoid or otherwise hesitant about the idea of updating drivers, have Windows make a System Restore point. That way if some problem aris
