Why don't you outfit your combat ships with defenses? Defenses are cheaper to research than weapons and require less space. Of the three weapon types: beams, missiles, and guns, guns are the cheapest to defend against. Time to research armor!
3. See above comments about miniaturization and tiny hulls. Two levels of mini will get a tiny hull with a constructor module and not much else. Slightly slower, less range - but about half the price.
I always create custom colony and constructor for my goal. Just a colony or constructor module on a small or tiny hull, depending on your tech level for a cheap ship. Other times you want one with extra range and/or speed. For example, to claim a distant resour
These old links still work for me in Firefox 3.0. What are you using to access the links? Impulse? There was a forum update last year that shortened the links and caused the old ones not to work; however, the old ones appear to be working again. I updated the OP to the new shorter style links, plus added an old link from Impulse Driven and finally your two new links. Thanks Phaedyme

Shouldn't this be called the last reply game as you post to create a new thread and then we reply. I'll use my reply to also plug my latest post: a Primer for GalCiv II If you found any of it useful then please show your appreciation in a reply (threads with many replies attract more readers) and send some good karma my way. :-) Mascrinthus , the last of the good Mithrilar (explained in my first link to the back-story).
Check out my Primer for GalCiv II for answers to this an other questions. This first link explains the GalCiv back-story. The Story of the Mithrilar, Arnor, Dread Lords, Humans, Altarians, and Drath This second link is to an old post of mine where I discuss the advantages of attacking vs. defending. Since then the bug that would restore your HP to full health has since been resolved. Also the research cost of weapons has been increased in ToA and a new building added which acts like an Orbital Fleet Manager on each
It's the only way I can see of sorting the water monkeys out Eidolon and winning the game!
Were the Terror Stars for getting the Torians to declare war so you wouldn't have to fight their allies or part of your plan for winning the war? I would think parking transports and influence starbases next to their planets would be enough to get them to declare war.
I haven`t tried the harder settings yet, is there any chance that this sort of thing can be avoided at the highest settings?
Not all the AI algorithms are used until the AI is set to level Intelligent (game level Tough). At higher difficulty levels the AIs receives bonues. If you set the AI to maximum CPU utilization then it will redesign its ships more frequently.
In my last game I
After sporing planets you should have transported population form planets with high population to get your empire's population and taxes growing. Late in the game, you and the AIs have mapped the entire map so why wouldn't they know the location of your ascension bases? You could say that they would have scanned the area prior to you creating the base and so should only see the ascension crystals but the game show you and the AIs starbases in already mapped areas.
I can't find the post there. Why don't you just continue the story here!?
My favourite real-life assault rifle is the brilliant Tavor
Finally someone else agrees with my post #11. It's bullpup design is also used to minimize the silhouette of soldiers and to maximize effectiveness in turning corners in urban warfare. These days combat takes place in urban areas not in fields and this is the perfect weapon for that style of combat.
The T.A.R. 21 uses a bullpup design . Bullpup rifles are configured in a layout in which the bolt carrier group is placed behind the pistol grip; this shortens the overall length but does not sacrifice barrel length. The T.A.R. 21 provides <a title="Carbine" href="http://en.wi
Brad we have been waiting since 2006/08/15 for chapter 9!
I also like the idea of trying to get one of their allies to declare war on them but is that possible-would they not have to break alliance 1st?
No, one of your allies not one of theirs.
Try pay one of your allies to declare war on them..as an ally you will be obligated to join.
I would like to hear back from more of you out there.
You may add me to the list of readers following this excellent AAR!
Even our favourite artists sometimes release a song that makes you think, what was/were he/she/they thinking!? One of my favourite albums is Synchronicity by The Police but it has one awful song, "Mother"! Please reply back your thoughts on my example and with more examples.
As a Time Warner employee (I work for AOL) and shareholder of Time Warner and TWC (it was recently spun off as a separately traded company) I disapprove of this action. It is reasonable to monitor and throttle the bandwidth of the very heavy users (i.e., those running peer-to-peer servers) so they don't adversely impact the other users but this plan makes TWC look money hungry. Such low caps and a high price per GB after the cap will have a negative impact on mainstream broadband
If you trade a tech you still have it as you don't unlearn it.
How about a new list. Songs you hate from artists you love. One of my favourite albums is Synchronicity by the Police but it has one awful song, "Mother"!
How would you rate the current DL, DA, and TA in terms of difficulty in hitting the 1 million mark? In DA they introduced immense maps which have up to 1000 planets, double that of gigantic maps in DL but DA included changes reducing the economic output you can get from each planet. TA has the DA changes plus it reduced the focus (i.e., when you switch focus on a planet to military, society, or research) from 25% to 20% making the all-factories or all-labs strategy harder.
