On GC1 it does not let you rename a ship via modification. I suspect they tried to solve that problem on GC2, where you can hit the end key and backspace or reposition as you like to change the parts you want to change (which, IMO is better than with GC1). But if you don't hit the end key or home key, I agree with you that it should delete the default text and expect you to enter the entire new text.

Exactly my point, Martin. In GC1 a ship with 0 attack could not attack, but any ship that attacks it is exposed to some defensive damage. In my mind anyone that builds ships that can be attacked without inflicting at least some retaliatory damage is crazy. It seems to me that something can be done with the different weapons in GC2 that can cause some damage to the attacker. For instance, energy from energy weapons could be reflected back, missiles could be
This one just happened to me, after having reloaded several previous games successfully. BTW, it happens with both the autosave and the previous autosave. Scott and Cari, Would it be of use to you if I send you my saved game?
My survey ship reached an anomaly, the window opened, I pressed the "done" button, and I got a CTD. I sent the SE report and debug file to Scott. ---SE report ----------- tardock SmartException Logging Information ------------------------------------------- OS Version : Windows XP Video Card : Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller Application Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION Crash Addr: 00435C14 01:00034C14 C:\M
Is it possible the game is not removing the ships of races that have been conquered or have surrendered to another race? I have had some ships I could not click on or display their ownership or type by moving my cursor over them.
Try this. Click end turn until a drop down starts dropping down the left side of the screen and double click a colony you own as quickly as you can react to seeing the drop down start. Then, when you click the done button on the planet view, notice where the drop down is. On mine, it is still sitting where I interrupted its descent. Then, on the next turn, it jumps to where it should be.
I don't care much for MP, so it is very important to me that GC2 works well as a single player game. I think adding MP should always be a secondary consideration to how well the game works in single player mode. If you really think about it, if the game works well only in MP mode, the game isn't realy much. But if a game works real well in single player mode, then playing the same game in MP mode has to be that much better. Another thought. How abo
on of the other ideas of mine was that stargate technolodgy should be on the tech tree. If you look at the story line preceding game start, the humans got stargate technology from one of the other races. GC1 has a very nice startup moviie cut that tells about it.
Just curious. And who is the singer (nice voice).
With a fresh start of GC2 I reloaded a game from the autosave file. After enough turns to create a new autosave (I have autosaves set at 3 turns) the game crashed. The autosave window was still on top when the crash happened, but I don't think that is sufficient reason to suspect the autosave code. I have sent the SE report, debug file, and my prefs.ini file to Scott. --------SE report--------- Stardock SmartException Logging Information ---------
have you gotten the "conventional" method to work yet? The only method I have tried is the "conventional" (or as the game says "traditional combat") method. It has worked every time (unless I got a CTD ).
Maybe because the planet isn't your influence zone (on the planet location, the planet has a greater influence than your, but not on surrounding space),but all space arround is in your influence zone Actually, the entire space in the solar system is marked as being in the other race's influence zone, even though I own
Yes. I would also like the ship drop downs to take me to the spaceport screen instead of the planet screen when it is left clicked. Since I don't know what is in the plan, I was assuming that was something that would happen in a future beta level.
Mine is a "Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller". So it is a couple of years old. I don't think I will be upgrading for another 2-3 years.
Query: How does the defender do damage to the attacker? Seriously, this is a good question. I can see how it is done if the defender has weapons (calculations above done with parties reversed), but what about, say, a transport with no weapons, just good armor, shields, ECM, and other defensive devices? I am happy with the fix to this problem on 0.12. Thanks.
This problem is considerably reduced in the latest load (0.12) but there are still times when I have to jiggle the map around to get it to pop back into place. Haven't had any total loss of the game on this level so far (because of the next button vanishing).
If you will post the portion of the debug file here that shows your video information then someone with the same card should be able to help you with your problem. It will also verify that the drivers you downloaded really got installed. (I ran into a problem where my video drivers didn't install the first time I tried it. I had a "RTFM" problem.)
Posting the SE data on the forum provides others of us beta testers an opportunity to avoid flooding Stardock with duplicate crashes. IMO, posting an entire debug.err file on the forum is unmanagable. The data can be quite huge. However, portions of it could be useful, as has been demonstrated by the problems some have had with video drivers. Other helpful testers have detected back level drivers and provided pointers to updates just by letting everyone see
Yes, the background looks great, but I have a complaint about it. So much of the background is so black that there are times I can't see what is in front of it.
Now the ship completions seem to be showing up. With three completions in the same turn I got three drop downs.
Well, what goes around comes around. Another race just tried to capture one of my planets and the game crashed. I am sending the SE report and debug file to Scott. Now I had only one ship completion and no drop downs.
OK. I just confirmed it. I just had a turn where two ships were completed but there was only one drop down.
I am not certain, but is it possible that when there are two or more completions for ships in a turn it only shows one drop down? I keep finding completed ships for which there was no completion drop down.
