I'm going to be honest here. While everyone has a right to play at thier own pace, and GalCIv isn't meant to be a game catered to teh elite players, your Metaveres record has 102 games recorded, with only five of those being wins.

I don't think Megaevents are your problem.

They're not supposed to be balanced, they're supposed to be VERY strong and provide an abrupt and unexpected challenge. In short, now an again they should make games that weren't close become close. If you don't like them, just turn them off.

For me, I want to see several of them turned up considerably. The Dread Lords should spawn with some HUGE fleets, rather than just being a free planet. I'd like to see groups like the Jagged Knife be considerably more active once they pop up. In very brief terms, I want mega events to genuinely turn the game on its ear, as I believe they were intended to do. Anything to add some challenge to the late game mop-up is a good thing in my book.

you know what when i drop from 30000 to -6,000 in one turn and going down -6,000 a turn that isn't a challenge

that is just an aburpt end to the game

it was the jagged knife that did that one to me

this last game i got hit by the desiese one and then two turns later got hit by the jagged knife

the third game i lost was to the desiese one when after i had discovered the cure it didn't work

so don't tell me about unexpected challanges

those kind of things are game enders not challenges

in the last game i got hit by the desiese and morale dropped to 35% so i drop taxes as low as possible bringing it up to 50+% and then two turns later i got hit by jagged knife again throwing me into the neg with no chance of coming positive

again that is not a challange that is a game ender

and of 101 games that i have played most of bugged out on me and i just went ahead and recorded the games anyways

how many games have you even recorded that you have lost non right

Perhaps we should get a slidder for Mega-events instead of a box to select. Perhaps 1 slidder to control the intensity of the megaevents, and another to control the frequency of the events. In fact, why don't we also have a tab available to select what Mega-events we want to deal with.

Hopefully that would satisfy both parties. The one who would think that Mega-events are over-powered, and those that think that they are not powerful enough.

That would make my record much more impressive. But alas, I cannot claim undefeated. I am currently 24:8, not exactly a stellar record. As a result, I don't claim to be good.

However, those reasons you mentioned are not neccesarily game enders. It is completly possible to win a game while having a tanked economy. It isn't easy, but through shrewed negotiations, and a bit of luck, you can still win. I had one game where I ended with a huge debt, having speant about 90% of the game below -500b.c., but still managed to pull of a win (a diplo win with tech trading on, having either off would make things much, much more difficult).

I never record games on metaverse.
I get the plague almost every game, it has never been an ender for me, I quite often research the cure and then never trade it. That helps keep opposing transports down in my experience.
The Pirates are the ones who give me the most problems.
The last time I had something that I thought was a game-killer was plague-30 turns approx. later jagged knife (lost 4 planets)- another 50-60 turns later pirates who destroyed every starbase and ship of all races except the minor ones.
I managed to win by building very fast transports and eyes of the universe to dodge around the pirates.
When something is nasty you can either give up, or work on the problem and maybe find an unexpected way to win.
In that instance, I managed to win without a single armed ship.

Mega Events are fine the way they are. They're MEANT to turn the game on its head, thats what they're there for. There are some lighter versions in the game already, which are just called "Events". They can be turned off if they're too hard.

i am not sure ab out this but the only way i could have gotten out of it was to sell all of my ships

and the first one hit when i had all of the techs so that means i would have been defensless forever and i am not sure this would have helped i don't think i had 6000 credits worth of ships

and they took 34 or 35 planets to 4 or 5 heck the last game they took around 15

and i don't mind problems i just want to be able to solve one problem before i get hit with another

If you feel mega events are too unbalancing to the game, you can simply disable them when you start a new game. They are intended to be unbalancing, though.

The only mega event I dislike is the pirate one. I think the pirates are overpowered, and if they are pirates, they should act like pirates. (Avoiding major power ships, going for freighters and starbases only).

Or, they should be swapped out for an 'Aliens from Another Galaxy are Invading' event.

i got hit by that one too about 10 turns in well long enough to start building my star bases not the game ones

Mega events are not only unbalanced, I think they're also not meant to appeal to all players. Just turn them off if you find yourself frustrated by them. You'll still get the non-mega random events, which can be a sudden challenge, but I don't think you can really call any of the non-mega events game-enders.

I think almost every mega event can be exploited to gain serious advantage (you can build a cheap fast ship to lure pirates away from your sector and into the AIs' for instance), so I tend to turn them off. I think the AI actually gets wiped by the disease mega event.

I think they're challenging, not game enders. Blessedly, we can both be happy. You turn them off, I'll leave them on. Easy.
