Why does Dark Avatar have to be online-only...

I'm not getting it if it is. That is so disappointing. I'd rather walk into a store, pay CASH, and walk back home with the case and all. I hate using credit cards... hell I don't even have a credit card.

I hope they allow Dark Avatar to be sold in retail soon, I was saving money up for it.

The "Dark Avatar only" version will only be available direct from Stardock. There will be a "GC2 Gold" (Dread Lords and Dark Avatar together) package at retail, to replace standard GC2 on the shelves.

What happens to the people who pre-ordered Dark Avatar and asked for a CD to be sent to them. What kind of CD will we be getting?

The Gold Edition of GalCiv II will be available in North America at retail for $39.95 at various retailers including: Gamestop / EB Games, Best Buy, Circuit City, Fry's Electronics and others. It will contain both GalCiv II and Dark Avatar, plus include a hotkey fold-out card and a vastly updated game manual (nearly 100 pages).

If you've already bought GalCiv II at retail, you can make use of a $10 mail-in rebate that's included in the box. The rebate is valid until April 15, 2007 if I remember correctly and you will need your original GalCiv II manual cover as proof of purchase (along with a copy of your Gold Edition sales receipt, etc.).

Why is that?


From what I've seen it all has to do with marketing costs and such. It would probably cost way too much for Stardock to go through all the hoops towards retail. That's probably why they will package the game and expansion when it does hit retail... to keep costs low. Just my op.

So now we get a NEW serial code... if we buy the Gold edition? That means I'll have to create a new account, right?

No the serial is just attached to your existing account as a seperate gamEdit: I need to read better I was meaning the DA serial is just attached not sure bout another GC2, but don't see why you would need to reregister at all if you already have it.

No. I'm not sure if the Gold box will include separate serials for DA and GC2, or just one for the both together, but in any case, you'd just register the provided serial(s) to your existing account in addition to the serials you have now to enable them in SDC.

I have another question pertaining to this subject somewhat. If we've preordered with cd option, will we be getting just a cd with manual in pdf on it, or will there be any paper documentation with it?

I'm interested on this as well. I'm going to pre-order DA, but I don't know what version yet. If it's just a CD with a PDF manual I'd pre-order the download only version but if it's a retail package like DL then I'll pre-order download+CD.

Any information about this?

A paper manual would be nice, but we can print PDF too.

The CD version is still the PDF manual.

Now, down the line, thanks to the wonders of e-commerce, we'll eventually be able to put something together where we'll know which things you've bought and are registered for and have per-user pricing.

I want to eventually let people buy the manual for just the cost of shipping even after they buy the CD (shipping the manual should be very cheap).

The new manual is something I'm pretty proud of (other than a handful of mistkaes). I wrote most of the new one myself and it's substantially different. It even explains why planets and stars are so close to each other.

Brilliant. Giving a loyal customer a better deal is very good business.

That would be a nice gesture. Is it too early to ask if this will be offered to those of us that downloaded online?

That's the plan anyway.  Given how much the new manual cost to manufacture, we want as many people as possible to read it.
