Graphics Problems

Textures not showing up

I can't find any places on the web for technical support for this game. I recently downloaded the newest directx drivers, but still, I can't make the textures on the ships appear in my game. In the video options, none of the things are checked, so I don't know whats going on. Can anyone offer me any help or advice? Thanks if you can!

Cheers

It might help if you posted your system specs.

Standard diagnostic list to start things off, since we have absolutely nothing to work off at this point.

A) What video card exactly do you have?
B) Check the things that aren't checked... ?
C) What drivers do you have? "newest directx drivers" could mean DirectX itself or your video card manufacturer's drivers. Try: dxdiag in the run dialog box (Start->Run), click the Save All Information, open the resulting text file, and copy all the way to start of the Sound Devices section. Paste than in here.

I also must note that when I said none of the options are checked, they are all disable ships details, disable weapon details, etc. That gives me the impression were I to check them, then they would disable it. Not that it changes anything currently : )
And latest directx drivers were the microsoft ones.
I suppose I might have to update my video card's one then?

Update those drivers.

Wow, those are OLD!

Yeah, you really need a newer card. There are people with the MX 440, who had to upgrade their gfx card, I'm pretty sure it doesn't fully support 9.0c If I remember right, it is really a glorified GeForce2 meant for DirectX 7 but it has been awhile. If you are short on cash you can pick up an nvidia 5200 for really cheap now. It's what I use and the game looks great.

Yeah I was going to be out of town for a week and decieded to load GC2 on my old Toshiba laptop with the GeForce4 440 Go card. No way to upgrade the card. There is a site http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ That has forums and a lot of help on drivers. I was able to update to version 81.94 from there. It works but some things just don't work like the ship textures. Have to turn those off.

For GF 4 MX/Go specifically, there's a potential workaround for the missing textures. It's described in reply #2 of this thread if you want to try and get textures working without buying a new video card.
