uninstalling the beta

Hiya,

With the gold version coming soon I wondered if I should uninstall the beta but can find no uninstall option.

When my pre-order arrives, should I just install over it?

You can uninstall it from SDC, just select it and then click the uninstall button at the bottom.  You should make sure to check the option to clear save games when you uninstall.

Is there an official recommendation by Stardock about whether to install the final version on a "clean" system or over a Beta version?

Well, given the fact that lots of thing will have changed , you may expect that the files that haven't been modified between Beta 5 and the release may not be large files or very numerous.

So if you are bound to download nearly everything, doing a clean install could be nice

BTW, that would prevent any strangeness on files that may have been modified in the same timeframe for the latest updates of beta 5 and the various gamma releases.

Oops! What if I inadvertently uninstalled SDC?

Thanks PP, that's what I thought as well. I won't take the risk and download the whole thing anew. It can't hurt to keep the Beta archived though...

Go back to the website and d/l + install it again. SDC will update when you restart it, restart itself, than you can go in and do your stuff, the deed, take em out... sorry out of Katnip.

Good luck.

That no longer works on many systems because of an error in the installation routine. The. 016 beta screwed my installation royally. I can't uninstall and it doesn't show that it is installed and bombs out on extraction at thumbs_0 file not found.

What am I to do?? beta .016 bombs early in the extraction process , as has been documneted. I had deleted the archived installations to save disk space. Now I can't install. I have no working version.. Can you please correct the
installation routine pronto so I can use the beta until release date??? Thank you.

Took me 3 times before I was able to get the beta to fully extract on my desktop.

Good luck,

You are NOT talking about the .016 final beta. I have not heard anyone who has successfully installed it no matter how many times you try. I tried over a dozen times. It always fails at 6% of the extraction process at files thumbs.db_0 file not found. If you are tellingme you got passed this I do NOT believe you.

You don't have to believe me. Let me tell you something one of my old Commanding Officers told the Executive Officer one day.

CO: "XO, I really don't give a shit whether you like it or not. I am telling you how it was done, how were going to do it and guess what?"

X0: "Yes, Cap'n?"

CO: "I have already made captain, I am and have already commanded a nuclear power attack submarine, so in this case and in the future I believe I am immeniently more qualified to make the decisions around here."

Now your asking yourself, what does this have to do with anything. Well what I took away from the exchange was this:

I don't care whether you believe me. Your not hurting my feelings one way or the other. Why would I bother to lie to you, I don't know you and if you died tomorrow I wouldn't lose a nights sleep.

However, another thing I believe in is your right to state that you do NOT believe me, and I WILL DEFEND YOUR RIGHT TO STATE THAT YOU DO NOT BELIEVE ME UNTIL THEY PRY MY .45 CALIBER FROM MY COLD, DEAD HANDS.

What I cannot get to install on my desktop or laptop is either of the multimedia files 1.0.041 (Chicago) or 1.0.042 (California) I continue to time out and receive probably the same error as you which is the... blah de blah url -14 sdczip.xxx failed to install.

Here is my read on what is going on with the entire GC2 on Stardock Central beta download. There is a cross up of files posted by SDC on which file/folder is for Gamma folks and which ties to just the poor cuzins who preordered intime to play and make reports on beta. You all can search through posts by on of the GC2 folks and probably find the reference I am talking about if you take the time.

Sincerely,
