Download Problems

gc2.sdc

Hello,

Ive played GC2's beta since I first spotted it whilst wibbling aroung on the world wide wibble, got to say that its very good for its stage in development.

Now the problem: And, its all mine. On Christmas evening my house caught fire, destroying all the computers in the house, Including the one that I had GC2 installed on. My family bought a laptop to share until we are on our feet again. Ive had GC2 running fine on this machine. Came to update it today and no luck.

Ive tried everything that I can, and still no luck

Actions so far:

1] Uninstalled GC2, clened up after it. Deleted its directory, the gc2 directory in my documents folder, and its entries in the registry.

2] Uninstalled SDC, reinstalled using the beta option. I also cleaned the registry, manually, and also user application data areas and its directory in program files.

3] Attempted to install GC2, no luck. Tried the above again, thinking I'd missed something. Still no go.

It seems to hang on a particular file when downloading, gc2.sdc. I've searched on the internet for any mentions of this file, and I got a hit, basically telling me to make sure that sdc's server was set to US - California. Tried again after that, nothing, changed it to US - Chicago, sill the same error.

Checked to see if my firewall was in anyway stopping it, nope. Checked AV for script settings, the same. Disbled both, nothing.

Here's the error log:

Any ideas?

Am I going into it more than I should, and gc2.sdc is really missing from the server, for whatever reason?

Thanks,

Nathan.

Shogun, thats a bit strange. Is there a copy of GC2 already installed for you, or not?

Can anyone either email or put gc2.sdc up on a webserver somewhere... I'm trying to do a clean install of galciv 2 and I'm experiencing the same problem as ThunderKinde

Ditto. The Multimedia stuff seemed to download fine, but GalCiv2 wouldn't update. I uninstalled, tried it again - same error.

Seems to only happen with new installs then. Which is rather annoying. Wants to reside in, for me anyway, "c:\docume~1\njw\locals~1\temp\sdcentral\" for me.

If someone who has already got the latest version installed can follow these simple steps:

Start > Run > type in "c:\docume~1\{YOUR_USER_NAME}\locals~1\temp\sdcentral\" , then press enter. > If youve got gc2.sdc in there copy it to desktop, open up your email client and attach it to an email, then send it to thci@{NOSPAM!}open-theweb.net. (removing {NOSPAM!} for obvious reasons ). Once Ive got it Ill bung it onto my webserver.

Thanks to anyone who can do this,

Nathan.

Ditto for me!! Plz send it to chrisgui@(NOSPAM!)yahoo.com if you read this before Thunder puts it on his webserver.

Please post a link to the file once you get it loaded on to a webserver. I could use the file too.

Thanks.

Aint recieved a copy yet, seems that folks who are lucky enough to have the game installed are already playing it!

I keep getting the same error. When I track things down, I have no foldr "Locals" on my disc.

Help all of us who have paid and want to play.

Braun: Are you running XP, 2000 or 2003? If not, you probably wont have one, it will be somewhere else under 9x/ME. OR, its that the folders are hidden. Unless you type/copy the direct folder address in, you wont be able to get there. Mind you, if you use the full name it will be "Local Settings". Hope that helps

Grunt: Nope, think the file is missing on the server for this many of us to be experiencing the same problem.

Did any of you try to switch the server in SDC?

I reinstalled about a week ago and it kept on failing so i changed to the California Server and suddenly it worked again
and the installation went fine for me after that.

First thing I tried, Ill retry it again just to make sure.

Nope, was on California, and checked in the registry to see if it was california. Doesnt work on Chicago either.

As it is working time for Stardock and all, you may get an answer on chat also, if your not behind a fire wall or something that you can not disable anyways.

Well now that is interesting!

If you just do a standard upgrade to beta .15 from a previous beta the d/l from stardock proceeds normally, game startsup and works as before.

The moment you do the uninstall from stardock on GC2 the new beta will not work giving the error codes mentioned above.

So just a heads up.

Suralle, could you email me the gc2.sdc file to thci@{NOSPAM!}open-theweb.net (removing the {NOSPAM!} part), Ill see if I can make a work around, using the registry and that file. I believe that its a file list, of sorts, to tell SDC what to download, and to where.

Shouldnt be too dificult to force SDC to download after that has been done,

Cheers if you can send it over,

Nathan.

I'm having the same problem; tried to uninstall then re-install, and now the Stardock application gives 'invalid url' error message.

Suralle, how did you get something to "upgrade"?

SDC, you have to check the beta option for the stardock central thing, then check for application updates. Wouldnt bother atm, not until we have some feedback on this one, that is.
