Language versions in Europe

Just a quick question, although I am from Germany I prefer to play with the English version of the game as the original tends to have far less problems with line overruns and faulty translation (don't say that will be so for GalCiv2, just a general experience).

At amazon.de and in other stores online I am only able to preorder the German version of the game. Is that intentional. Will there be no English version on sale on the German market? Or is the German game version multi-lingual so that I get to choose which language version I want to install.

Sure, I could just DL the game from the net, however, there are also things not clear to me, i.e. what happens if for some reason I want to play the game on a different computer (especially if MP is someday available and I want to have a LAN party...). Is the DL file an .exe or somesuch that I can just burn on DVD and install on a different computer?

Well, Stardock Central has an archive/restore feature. You just need to use SDC, make an archive, burn the archive with SDC, then install SDC on a another computer and restore the archive.

And be aware that GC1 had updates for at least 2 years (for bug fixes and the year of free expansions)

I am not completely sure, but I believe that when you buy the game from amazon.de (or wherever) you can also download the game via Stardock Central, and that version should be multi-lingual. The version you recieve in retail probably is as well. I'm sure someone can confirm / debunk this...

Well, to download the game, you need a valid serial ID. After you have received the Cd of the game with the serial id, you will be able to doa that. And currently there is only the english version.

It would be nice if someone from Stardock could post a definite answer... because I need to decide soon if I wait for the German release or order an English one...

Buying a localized box and downloading the English version using the serial would be fine for me, if that's the way it works out. As some have already noted, we Europeans hope that we can install updates for the game the day they come out, too

I just bought it from Play.com - with free shipping to Germany. Only downside is that it took 11 days to reach me (counting weekends), but you can't beat ~30€ for the tin box Collector's Edition.
